This is a recap of the weekend fishing the EOBC 2024. The fishing and conditions were tough to begin with but the fish just didn't seem to be around in big numbers. Small numbers of fish were caught in comparison to the amount of anglers around. Take a look and see how we got on. Short session trying again for the Shannon Cod. Trying another new mark today that didn't go to plan. The first spot I wanted to fish was actually cut off and I couldn't access it so had to go for plan B and fish off a slightly different mark. Didn't know what to expect but had a fair idea what the ground was going to be like so decided to give it a go. Rods: Akios Creed Reels: Diawa BG 30s Bai...

    Enjoyed your video very much. I catch a lot of flounder in New York but my family is from Wexford and I would always try to catch fish from shore whenever I visited with no luck. But it’s nice to see it can be done. Ireland is a beautiful country and when you combine it with fishing there’s nothing like it. Thank you for making these videos. ☘️🐟

      Two of us will be over for our annual week to Kerry staying in annascaul end of August I have a question where do you get to drive onto derrymore as we fished it twice but only parked in the carpark and do you definitely need a 4x4 and how far up the beach is the better area, fished to the left of the stream. Last year and year before to the right about 500yds past the stream also the spar where is the better mark on there sorry for all the questions

    • @IrishAnglingAdventures
      @IrishAnglingAdventures 5 місяців тому

      @@paulwilliams-rk6fy Sorry for the wall of text haha..... Derrymore car park can be a good spot to fish for stingers, painted ray, Huss dogs bass etc. The point really only fishes for all rays. The point only fishes over low water. It’s a 5km walk up to the point from the car park. There is a road closer to the point that can be walked if needs be but it only knocks off about 1km. The Carpark is where you drive onto the beach. I would 100% not recommend driving a 2wd car up there. You will get stuck. Ive had some interesting situations even in the 4x4 up there. I will say that the point can get weeded out very easily to if you decide to walk up make sure that you have some local knowledge to see what the conditions are like. Message me before you come over. Ill be in castlegregory all summer so ill have a fair idea. The beach can kind of fish anywhere. I generally have a look over the low water and try to see where the rocks are and fish between them onto the sandy ground. Ive fished bother left and right of the river. I prefer left of the entrance to the beach personally but I know friends who prefer the right. I assume you mean the Spa on the other side. So it can fish anywhere but most people will say that the wooden pillons driven into the sand is the best spot. You have access to the main channel a little easier there. Saying that every year it changes so it just depends. Spa is kind of the same as derrymore in what you can catch.

    Hi James. The cast looks good, left your right hand hire. Use your right hand as a pivot, keep it straight. Move your left hand to make the lead swing instead of your right. Swing the lead a little higher, and then you're in the right place.

    • @IrishAnglingAdventures
      @IrishAnglingAdventures 6 місяців тому

      Thanks man, ya basically the same the fly rod. Letting the weight of the line do the work really in loading the rod. I still think I've a bit to do to be happy with it but at least it's a start

    2nd cast looks very good especially if your just starting to learn! Just try and keep your arms a little more straight… the bigger the arch the lead makes behind you and the more power you will generate… I know this can be difficult on certain marks though… which is also why I assume your drop is a little shorter than I would prefer… but your drop length depends on the weight you are casting also… if the lead goes straight when your casting though then it’s perfect

    • @IrishAnglingAdventures
      @IrishAnglingAdventures 6 місяців тому

      Thanks man . Ya the slope behind me didn't help with how short the drop was but It also didn't feel right having a big drop. Just something I need to get used to I guess. Would you say longer drop for lighter lead? . Lead isn't going as straight as I want I'm sometimes releasing a touch early or late I think and I've noticed I'm not casting up. I seem to be casting more at like a 30° angle instead of 45ish

    • @jameswhite6402
      @jameswhite6402 6 місяців тому

      @@IrishAnglingAdventures exactly that, I’ve got marks on my rod for 5,6,&7oz leads and the drop length will probably be a reason your cast may not be straight currently so have a play about with it rule is lighter lead longer drop… and I wouldn’t worry so much about trying to cast up 30 degrees is fine otherwise you end up chopping the cast… essentially you try and create power in a big arch behind you and then last minute you change the direction your pulling the rod to over the top of you to try and cast up and you lose that momentum and end up just casting off the tip of the rod… if you ever watch someone cast from behind and when they do you can see that just before they release the line that the rod tip is bending to the right and not in line with the rest of the rod it’s because they are chopping the cast

    • @IrishAnglingAdventures
      @IrishAnglingAdventures 6 місяців тому

      Ah that makes sense with what your saying about the chop. Guys had shown me a few times before how to pendulum but when I used their technique it felt weird. The rod didn't feel like it was generating power. I now realise it was because they were telling me to bring the rod more vertical.

      I wish I knew what I was getting to be honest. I'm going to have to get into the field and actually pace it or trundle wheel it out . I'm assuming I'm getting somewhere around the 120-150 meter mark with bait. As for accuracy it goes in the rough direction. I actually think those cast went a little more left than I wanted I think the camera not being set up directly behind makes it look like it goes right
