Parkrun: starting at an INSANE pace and seeing what happens...
What is up run fans, we're at Wakehurst parkrun this week- which is a very undulating course, there is maybe 300m of flat total, the rest of it is either up or down! I wanted to get some XC practice in before the first race of the season and this looked a good one to do it at!
My plan today was to push myself harder than ever- and set out at an unsustainable pace and see where it takes me. Coupled with the hills, it was certainly going to test my mental and physical strength, strap in!

Hey, i saw you there! We were running alongside from around King Alfred along east before the start - i saw the headcam and wondered if you'd be in YouTubE - then the algorithm served you up. I am yellow top in the big bunch just ahead of you at the start. Damn windy that day. I felt strong (in tapering for a marathon this Sunday so had a few less miles in my legs last week), stronger then i have for quite some time - but was a minute off course/ overall PB from a month back
@@charles-h9e ah wicked! I wanted to get in that group you were in but it was too much of a risk to go all in to make it across, which I think was the right call! Great job on the run, conditions were less than optimal to say the least so once you’re back after marathon you’ll smash that PB!
Fair play lad, sub 20 5k my main goal for 2025 after doing marathon in 2024

Great vid, love Tailgate even chevron
@peterrichardson5664 love chevron!
Metaspeed racers were argubly the most improved racers for 2024 , it will be interesting to see how they contunue to evolve. For me they were a little narrow in the heel when I needed to slow down a bit , but great shoes. It has been too long since I raced in the AF1 so kind of forgetting what they were like (had the tempo trainer too) I remember the slap , slap , slap noise 😅. I did the NY marathon in the first gen Mizuno's came in sub 3:30 and beat my hips up a little for a day or two so I suspect the geometry moves the forces up the leg. Nice reviews on the shoes you own , very best luck with your running and vlog for 2025.
@@JohnBirtchetSharpe I agree, having run a 5k pb in them this week they just get better the faster you go, massive fan of them! I really want to try the new rebellion pro 3s and Alphafly 3s to compare! Thanks very much for the feedback, it’s really appreciated!

@@JoeVlogsRunning yeah absolutely love mine!
how long has your recovery taken from your stress fracture? how long did it take you to run again? currently got a stress fracture in my tibula, my god its painful, pains me to think how much im going to lose over the recovery
@@PilbeamYT did it in April, recovery was not good as I didn’t know I had it for a month and a half- so made it worse. Ran again in September. Don’t worry about the fitness, it will come back and as soon as safe to do so, get cross training- that saved me from going mad and also meant I wasn’t a mess when I ran again. You will get there dude- I was in the same situation (mine was a femoral neck SF). My earlier videos are all about it which might help you feel better!!!
@PilbeamYT - It was the stress fracture content that drew me here. I had a grade-four tibia stress fracture in July. Wasn't until November that I was able to attempt a walk/run comeback. Am back running parkrun and 10ks now. Still experiencing low-level pain in the affected area - which I'm hoping are phantom pains.
@@MicLee01 that’s great, sounds like it but always good to be careful and listen to the body, but if you’re doing 5ks sounds like lots is in the mind, keep at it!
@@MicLee01 ive got 2 grade 3 stress fractures in my tibia right now, so im a bit skeptical of when ill be back running, im going to aim for great south run as my first race back which gives me a good 10 months of recovery. Very shit, was the fittest id been and losing a lot of weight and now i feel like im just gonna be going backwards, once given the all clear ill be swimming daily to keep my fitness in check whilst i recover. appreciate the advice and experience there makes me feel a bit better knowing i wont be out for a year or something silly like that

Great reccy from someone from LA* as there's 3 turns, Worthing looks faster!
@@rebornmanga I love LA but reckon Worthing is faster by at least 15-30 seconds. Well worth a trip over!
Cool page man it's great motivation 🙌 been watching your videos for a few weeks now, ..currently I'm down to 20.08 on 5km so I'm very close to cracking that sub 20min , I've probably one or 2 more chances to break this in 2024 so hopefully the luck of the running gods is with me, I'm aiming for sub 19 for 2025...im consistent with my gym work every week, and I do one parkrun every Saturday without fail, usually I definitely get a long run/long easy run aswell....An area I'm struggling in a little is my pacing I'm definitely going out way too fast in my 20.08 run my 1st km was 3.48 and my 4th was 4.15 now I did pick it up for the final push and ended up going 3.59 to get my final time of 20.08 but I know if I can try pace better I'll smash the sub 20 goal hopefully 💪that's my C goal haha my B goal is 18.59 and my Future A goal is 17.59 🎉...keep up the good work and videos man 💪
@@MjolnirVici hey thanks so much! Sub 20 is gonna happen before 2025- it sounds like you just need to pace it slightly different and you’ll smash it! Try going out 4:05-4:10- I guarantee you’ll find 8 more seconds at the end when feeling better than ever!!! Really good to hear your goals for next year, keep me updated and let me know if you smash 20!!! I’m gonna be going for sub 20 tomorrow and filming it to be released Sunday, looks a bit windy and haven’t done an effort like that since April, so a bit apprehensive but thought why not, it’ll be fun!

Great video that was and amazing work with the pacing 🎉 that second half was unreal 🤩
@@raleyadventures massively appreciated! Love a bit of pacing!
What a video! Thanks for sharing. Actually, I want to ask a question. I also want to join the running events, but when I run, my limit is 7 to 10 km at most, and I walk 20 minutes of the whole time because I'm getting tired. How long did it take you to train yourself to run 21 km? And when you go running, what's the most you can run? also Do you ever stop to walk because you are tired while running?
@@luniar5190 hey! It takes time to run that sort of distance, but just starting out and getting out there is a good start! There’s a great program called ‘couch to 5k’ which takes you through starting out and running the entire way. And from there, just slowly increase the time and distance you do. You’ll be surprised how quickly you improve! Most I’ve done is a marathon, one day I’ll do ultras and things but for now, 42k is more than enough!!! Thanks so much for watching!
@LightitUpSB I understand, I understand. So timing and discipline are key in training. I definitely won't be skipping Couch to 5k! thanks for your unique tip! 42k is a amazing distance, i wonder that if you have used Couch to 5k or similar programs during your training as well? if so, are you still using it in your training? what ratio of running and walking are you doing right now when you are running? thank you very much.
@ I use a different program now, check my other videos for the details, I’m just running now!
@LightitUpSB okay!
These are great tips. I find my lunch time runs are essential, I live out in the countryside so there are a lot of dark roads, and when the weather is bad the surounding area is very prone to flooding, so running in daylight really helps. i often have to be flexible with my running during the winter months. The running club i am with will not let any one run in the evening unless they have a light and high vis clothis too.
@@myrunningproject84 fully agree, flexibility is the key! Sadly it’s just evenings or mornings for me mon-Fri, so need to be creative!!!
Well done mate. it's not easy in those conditions. I chickened out and did my Friday run at lunch time, i didn't wanna go and run in the rain 😂 I vlogged my lunch run too, and did a tour of my local village showing all our areas that flood. I am glad i went when i did, cos saturday our village was pretty cut off cos of flooding. what was it like where yo were?
@@myrunningproject84 that’s a good shout!!! Sadly I don’t have that option so it’s just all about grinding it out in the bad conditions- once I’m out it’s all good tho, and character building 😂😂 or something like that!
@LightitUpSB Im quite lucky i can take 90 minutes for lunch, I just have to start 30 minutes early in the morning. I did try a pre work run (hated every moment of it) 😂 early mornings need to be made illegal. I do have a group session on Tuesday and Thursday evenings with my running club, but i have not been for a few weeks cos of illness.
@LightitUpSB Also creating a UA-cam channel has forced me to get off my ass, otherwise i have no content haha

@@peternacken4730 what a find! I love the Tempo, think Nike missed a trick not releasing a second version. As for Vaporfly, it’s my only Nike Shoe that broke- midsole came away from upper. Nike replaced them but I think they’re maybe too fragile for every day use however I’ve seen people like FOD runner training in them a lot and they’ve held up so maybe I was just unlucky! Great shoe

Still have the MTB though as that’s still close to my heart! Brilliant to hear you’re loving it and continue to push on, let me know if you’re ever at an event down south!
@@LightitUpSB I live in Bristol. Already signed up for the Bristol Half 2025, hoping to knock 30 minutes off my 2024 time. Another one you could consider is the Doynton Hard Half Marathon in February - that will be brutal!
@ thanks for the heads up with check it out! Bristol half sounds great- you’ll smash it!
Are there are flash sales on these from time to time, especially around the end of the year? I know 125 pre-voucher isn't too bad but as it's been at that price for a while, I'm hoping to find an outstanding deal if I can.

I bought my first pair of running shoes in Brighton, 20 years ago, probably! Good memories, seeing this scenery again. I loved living there. 🎉
@@davidmackintosh429 glad to being back some nice memories, where are you based now?! Brighton is great for the flat but also the fantastic trails over the downs!
@@LightitUpSB I live in South East Queensland in Australia. I'm just back from a run, training for my first marathon next year. I used to run from Brighton out to my work in East Chiltington. The Jolly Sportsman pub. Great times!
@ amazing! Weather here right now is sideways rain due to 50mph winds so no doubt you just had a nicer run than me!
@LightitUpSB 28oc and sunny! Believe it or not, a bit of rain sounds nice! 🤣
@ sounds dreamy, I’ll send some rain across 😂
Well done to your sister. Great pacing. There was a hint of D Mills in his orange top going the other way as you went Madeira Drive.
@@robmills481 thanks very much Rob, I saw the boys after but was too far away to say hi, I tried to keep an eye out for the Mills boys along the way but no luck- glad to see I caught one on camera 😂
Big congrats to your sister, lovely video
@@MrSmokedTurkey thanks very much!!! Really appreciated
Well done. You caught me in your footage on Madeira Drive. Do you mind if I use that bit on my video. Give you a shout out of course. I saw you filming in front of my van before the start!
@@FilmMyRun hey, of course!!! I can send across other raw footage if you need too. I saw you after but you were miles away, I’ll chase you down and say hi next time!
