Aeonium canariense var. 'Mint Saucer' (Dinner Plate Aeonium). Lush Succulents-Bigger-than your head.
Переглядів 17 тис.3 роки тому
Serving Succulent Symmetry; lose yourself in the allure of verdant geometry. Some refer to this easy-to-maintain succulent as a Dinner-Plate Aeonium. If you prefer botany, it is an Aeonium canariense [variety] of a large succulent plant; I think this a modern selection (of unknown parentage) named Aeonium ‘Mint Saucer’. In any event, I’ve successfully incorporated this low-water, lush lovelines...

Several months each year visitors are arrested by a festival of flowers and entranced by this rarified aroma. It is easy to see why Bauhinia variegata is also called (Purple Orchid Tree); full bloom is an event to celebrate! This is a winner in the flowering-tree category, with moderate water needs, coastal and desert adaptation, and modest size . . . (watch the rest of the story in the short v...
Mackaya bella (Forest Bell Bush). Shaded Springtime blushing flowers.
Переглядів 53 тис.3 роки тому
I remember the first time I saw it, gleaming, under a towering tree's cool canopy. From a distance it is intriguing; up close it is exquisite. Nothing quite matches this trumpeted flaring star, in whispered lavender blush and violet penciled veil. This splendi-florous plant is Mackaya bella (Forest Bell Bush), reliable shade bloomer. Natively found 'neath forest canopy and alongside streams . ....

Dudleya virens ssp. hassei, (Catalina Island live-forever)
where did you get it????
If you are in the South-west coast, then there are several native nurseries that specifically stock native plants and may have this 'Dendromecon harfordii (and some 'regular' nurseries may carry some natives). It is best to call or visit nurseries near you and inquire about this rare beauty.
Do these grow at the same speed as a regular crêpe myrtle?
This one, yes, a few feet of growth a year. This is supposed to be a small tree/large bush. (There are small bushy types and large tree types of Crepe Myrtle.)
Just gorgeous🌸
Love this color combo
Are all bauhinia fragrant? There is a native bauhinia in the Philippines but I've never seen them in flower. The leaves are used for cooking.
Fascinating that the leaves are used for cooking! Not all Bauhinia are fragrant, there are many varieties,,, I haven't experienced them all, so there are future treasures to anticipate!
Koby, I grew up in So Cal and camped, surfed and hiked the N Baja coast. I loved the Dudleya b. so much that i got one for my house in the inner East Bay, in Pleasant Hill, near Concord, CA. Mine is in the ground for 5 years now. It's huuuge. Do you know how to propagate/cultivate them? Cheers,
Our lives are so enriched with plants, wonderful associations as for the Dudleya: I have not tried to propagate brittoni, I buy it from nurseries which I think often grow them from seed, which takes some careful patience because they start out tiny and slow.
JFC learn some California ecology, this is completely absurd nonsense. You can call it a weed or not, but it's a listed invasive species and causes actual damage to California habitats, native plants and animals. Stop making ridiculous nonsense.
Its also edible ,in india people make meat with freshly buds of flowers! Its tasty and healthy !
That's fascinating, how the virtues of this plant keep giving and giving!

Is that the same as a Eastern Redbud? I have a small tree and im trying to figure out what it is? It blooms real pretty dark pink before the leaves come out. Sorry i have hard time describing color. Maybe dark hot pink.
the Mexican Redbud (Cercis canadensis var. mexicana) and Eastern Redbud are closely related trees, but there are some key differences: Size: The Mexican Redbud is typically a smaller tree, growing 10-15 feet tall, whereas the Eastern Redbud can reach 20-30 feet. Flower Color: The Mexican Redbud has darker pink flowers compared to the Eastern Redbud's lighter pink blooms. If your small tree has dark pink flowers that bloom before the leaves emerge, it's more likely to be a Mexican Redbud! Most of the Mexican Redbud have a wave to the leaf (not flat). There are several types of Redbud sizes and colors. Take a few photos and reference with a local nursery. Happy gardening!
@kobyhall thanks so much for that information! I'm super excited. Just Bought this property. And enjoying some of the trees. and loved the color when it bloomed!
“Very very big!” That’s what she said….😂 it’s the 70’s porn music that made me think of that. Seriously it’s a nice aeonium variety
Great video, thanks for putting it together..
How cold is too cold for the tree
It can take light frost, but prolonged frost will start to damage the tree. (this is not a plant that survives in a snowy environment). It's sub-tropical.
These are a staple here on the piedmont of North Carolina.
How many would I need in the 1 quart size ti make it look full like this?
To be full like that takes a few years to naturally fill out. Also depends on on how full it already is, from the grower. Start with 5 plants, or more if you're willing.
Probably at least 3, depending on how full the plants already are from the grower. Each plant clumps out, next to itself and slowly gets bigger over time.
I always enjoy your plant presentations
Thanks Jim.
I had it in Italy at a restaurant and now grow it to eat in my greenhouse in northern NM. Great lemony flavor!
Delectably delightful.
What is variegated about it? The petals?
Yes, it is the variegation (more than one color) in the flowers -that makes up the 'variegata' part of the name.
Beautifully said.
That is gorgeous! I want one! Where can I get one?
Ask your local garden/nursery center, or an Internet search for plants or seeds. Happy hunting!
your face is waaay too much in frame mate..not that pretty up the nose ..
Lovely gardens, each one is so inviting!
Thanks Susi, glad to share the joy.
Wow! What an awesome tour. Thanks so much for making this video and showing off your garden! It is very impressive.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you! I have been looking for a detailed spacing chart for this species 😊
What fun to see your garden! I haven't seen Jewels of Opar in years!
Thanks Susi!
Tengo uno pero no quiere crecer
so pretty ! can this grow from a cutting?
A cutting would be iffy and challenging (I don't have experience with this specific plant). If you can't get plants at a nursery, try: online order, or seeds.
Yes you can . I feel air layering is the best way.
These Ice plants definitely look like those anemone like creatures on coral reefs. Lovely plants.
I hope that blue-eyed grass can take being in a hot rock garden. That's where I have need of it.
This is a small, perennial plant best suited for Mediterranean (wet with long dry season) climate. Hopefully it is a good fit!
@@KobysGardenAlchemy Thank you.
can it be naturalized to rainfall in california?
This is a small, perennial plant best suited for Mediterranean (mild, short wet season, with long dry season) climate. Hopefully it is a good fit!
👍🏾
Thanks for sharing!
Where can I get my hands on some of this?
Try: your nearest professional nursery or ask if they know of another nearby nursery; Type the plant name and nursery into a web search - that may also show what nurseries have availability and or may ship live plants, communicate that with them for details. Best regards!
so pretty!
How do you trim this?
You do not have to trim it the plant, it has a natural bushy loose shape to it, if there are eventually some dried/dead flower tips you could lightly trim those off. it doesn't require much maintenance.
How do you remove the seeds from dried flowers?
I'm sold. Fuck this bermuda in my yard
Wow
This not produce seeds 😦😦😦😦😦. Why?
Myriad reasons it may not seed: may not have the right pollinator or varying water levels or the climate might not be to its liking... Enjoy the flowers.
Thank you for this helpful video.
Should I water when planting?
Yes.
@@KobysGardenAlchemy thank you
Your Dudeliyas are spectacular really. I have recently bought one. New Subscriber here. My latest video is in this succulent itself but you seem to be a master .. 😊 Please come n check on the video. 🙏 It will be nice to be youtube friends.
I grow these on my balcony here in Singapore..
Looks like you've got a Red-stem Dogwood (Cornus sericea) in the video here...? I see alot of this Ceanothus species around my area, and it looks fairly different than this.
Convergent (look alike) evolution is amazing - isn't it. There are other differing plant (and animal species) that occasionally do this also. This video name is properly attributed.
Thank you, Very informative and inspirational presentation.
Thanks Beryl
How can i get some seeds from this particular orchid tree?
You might find a seed supplier on the internet; type "Bauhinia variegata seeds" into your search engine. I hope that helps.
@@KobysGardenAlchemy thank you so much
@@KobysGardenAlchemy what other fragrant plants you can suggest which would florish in tge tropics?
Great fern, great plant!
Everything about this video--the images, the birds chirping your voice--is so soothing. Thanks!
They smell awesome. They grow in Jamaica.
You sure its this particular variety with scented flowers? If yes which part of Jamaica I'm in Barbados I'd love to get some seeds.
@@geriannroth449 it is identical to the one at my workplace. I am trying to propagate it so I can have the plant at home.
@@marshabuchanan-allen2606 oh Gosh I need some seeds I have the standard ones NO FRAGRANT FLOWERS on mine but they're treat for the pollinators bees &hummingbirds. If you pm me I'll give you my mailing address cost everything at me too
@@marshabuchanan-allen2606 Are the colour of the flowers of your the same as in the vid? Can you please describe the smell is it soft like baby powder or Frebreeze. I'm just so excited to add more fragrant plants to my garden but most Are not seed bearing they're propagated by cuttings.
I'm on facebook messenger & whatsap
Wow, I thought I had seen all the Mondi grasses.
Will it bloom in India?
I don't know. However, it needs a climate somewhat between Mediterranean and or temperate (not tropical, not consistently wet).
