Soldier Butterfly - Polymer Clay in 5 Minutes!
Last year, when I set myself the challenge of completing 52 butterflies, I had no idea it would blow up so big! I recorded all my makes and though not all of them were tutorials, a lot became 5 minute sensations!
Feel free to slow down the videos and copy it yourself :)
There may be a tutorial I put together if I make this butterfly again.
I am on Insta and Facebook at the moment, there is a smidge on Etsy but Patreon at the moment is going through a revamp until I decide what good value stuff I can show you, give you and teach you. Open to ideas always!
Much love my beautiful fans 💙💙

I even show you a few different designs with this one - the only limit really is your imagination. I LOVED this pr...
Death's Head Hawk Moth - Polymer Clay in 5 Minutes!
Переглядів 2,4 тис.2 роки тому
Polymer clay canes seem to take F-O-R-E-V-E-R to do - but now I can show you the process in 5 minutes! This is the Death's Head Hawk Moth, a personal favourite that I made toward the end of 2020. I over thought the process of making the top wings and actually, if you study the wings of any creature, you can pick out the highlights that make the particular creature special or unique. I think I n...

Переглядів 9003 роки тому
In this polymer clay tutorial we explore and make a Silky Hairstreak butterfly - I don't know that there is anything "silky" about it! There are some furry/hairy bits on the bottom wing...but there is also a beautiful FLASH of orange sunset that makes me fall absolutely in love with it! Let's clay! You will need the following clay: * Black * White * Orange * Yellow * A small bit of red * 5 shad...
Goliath Birdwing Polymer Clay Cane Tutorial
Переглядів 2,1 тис.3 роки тому
This is a Polymer Clay Cane Tutorial for the Goliath Birdwing Butterfly. I incorporate many learned polymer clay techniques into the caning process to show you this clay butterfly. You could reduce this cane to make earrings or you can use it for decorating various objects. Firstly PLEASE EXCUSE THE GAP IN THE MIDDLE - I cut my finger and then forgot to unpause the recording 🙄🙄 Anyway, you will...

Recommended for beginners to caning :) In this tutorial I used (all Sculpey Repmo) * Yellow * Red * White * Pale Grey * Black If you love this tutorial, I have plenty on the channel - check my favourite out here:...

Perhaps one of the most recognizable moths from around the world, this garden tiger moth has striking top and bottom wings. I use Sculpey Premo. You will need: White Orange (you can just mix cadmium yellow with a little cadmium red until you get the colour you want). Navy Blue Glitter Grey Cadmium Yellow Cream (White with a little cadmium yellow added) Burnt Umber Brown Burnt Umber Brown with s...
Polymer Clay Tutorial - Blue Morpho
Переглядів 1,9 тис.3 роки тому
This is probably one of the most iconic butterflies in the world! The Blue Morpho butterfly - native to rainforests, these iridescent beauties are utterly gorgeous. So of course I had to make one with a tutorial. I use Premo Sculpey in the following colours: * Black * Navy Blue * Turquoise * Aqua (add some green to the turquoise) * Mustard Yellow (add a smidgen of brown to cadmium yellow) * Ora...

Переглядів 18 тис.3 роки тому
This is a polymer clay tutorial for a monarch butterfly cane using a skinner blend (I have another technique as well, for another video!) Monarch butterflies are probably one of the most recognisable and striking butterflies in the world and I really wanted to capture the beauty of this butterfly in clay. You will need orange, yellow, black and white clay - I use premo sculpey but there are ple...
Great tutorial! I'd love to know how you reduce it! Thanks!!
Thank you so much for this fantastic video. You make it look so easy. You have a great voice for this and explain things so even I can understand. Thank YOU.
That's incredibly kind. Thank you so much - caning can be such a tricky concept to try and put into words sometimes!!
@@MidnightButterflyDesigns Aww. thank you for replying. I spent TWO days on that bottom wing. I finally gave up & decided my butterfly would be happy to wear a leaf for a wing. It looks like a leaf. Upsetting. Tje top wing looks ok. How on earth were you able to cut the curvy lines with an Exacto knife? Pure 100% MAGIC. Thank you again for sharing such a great tutorial,...you did a wonderful job. I know it's time consuming & a lot of work. Cheers. I adore your accent.
@@ameswho9548 I'm sure it came out great! Sometimes, if you don't have a big bendy blade, if you cut a straight line and the shape the clay gently on both sides (so it matches when you put it back together) you can get a similar effect. 💙
Silkworm moth clay charm please
This is a fabulous video but I would love to have seen how you extrude it out at the end to make it the size that you need.
This was very well explained, both visually and via the narration. Thank you so much for sharing this with us 👌🏼
My pleasure! 😊 I am so pleased that it's been very helpful! 🙌
Can you roll these out to pretty small?
Yes you can, to teeny tiny sizes! A lot of people make dolls house size butterflies this way.
Love fairy doors ❤
They're just magical!
What an awesome video, i can't wait to try this.
Thank you! I hope you have fun!!
If this is a tutorial, I wish you could actually do a detailed (not fast forward) video with everything shown in the camera view. Because there aren’t many or any tutorials on making moth canes. I’m new to polymer clay (taken tons of ceramics classes in undergrad BFA program but new to all of this)… just wish tutorials now a-days showed regular time speed videos and taught you how to do things
Thanks for commenting! This was never meant to be a tutorial as I'd never made one before, it was just want came out if my hands 😅 It's more a 'look what I did' video! I'd like to make more tutorials, especially on moths because you're right, there are hardly any moth tutorials! I'll bear it in mind when I start making videos again 💙 thank you for your feedback!
Stunning
Is there a way to slow this down for real people to learn?
Real people? 😂 But yes, agree. I wish it was slower!
This is more a showcase rather than a tutorial 😊 Its just a style of video that shows some behind the scenes rather than act as a 'how to guide'!
this is magnificent! wow!
Where did you find the graph that you work on?
It's a glass cutting mat - I think I found it in the Range but gosh, that was yyyeeeaaarrrsss ago!!
Hello there, Your works are so awesome and beautiful 😍. Seems, though, you have not been posting in a while. Please, Consider making fresh posts. Especially of your awesome butterfly creations. Thank you!
Aww thank you so much! I should probably put a post up as to why I've not made more recently....but the cliff notes version is I'm heavily pregnant 😅 I'll be posting a lot more when this baby is out!!
Qué paciencia!!!!! , felicidades, desde España
Love this! Thank you for the video
You're so welcome!!
Какие красивые бабочки,отличная работа! Хочу сказать спасибо!
Thank you!
Love your butterflies and this one is gorgeous!
I love your use of colors and realistic approach to your craft! TFS ❤
Not criticizing but you need to find a much more stable place for your video camera. It’s wobbling alot
It does that because the table wobbles, even the most stable of tables - without a full over the table rig, which would then mean changing the art room round, unfortunately this isn't possible. Thanks for your feedback!
I loved this tutorial it’s not too slow not too fast! Just right thank you it’s amazing 🤩
Thank you so much! 💙
I love your videos you need to definitely make more
Aww thank you. I'm desperately trying to make another one - it's atleast recorded! Just need to edit 🤩 thank you for your support 💙💙 I appreciate you!
@@MidnightButterflyDesigns I’m going to try to make a clay atlas moth and watching your videos inspired me to do so I love moths and butterflies but lately I haven’t been motivated to make it until now and your videos will help me with making it Tysm for ur awesome creativity

Are you going to be making more videos on butterflies? 🦋
I am - there's going to be some new uploads in the coming days :)
I collect butterflies. Not real ones though! Beautiful!
Thank you! 😊
For anyone that desires to make a beautiful butterfly cane...your channel is a must! Thanks for sharing your talents.
Thank you so much 💙
I'd like to see the completed butterfly. Is there a part 2?
Thanks for watching - there isn't a part 2, these are just how to make the cane for the wings currently. I'm taking a break from making videos but there may be full "making the butterfly" videos at some point 😊
Thank You!! Your tutorials are awesome! I finally bit the bullet this weekend and made my first butterfly cane. Your videos were SO HELPFUL!
Oh that's AWESOME!!! WELL DONE!!!
Very very nice result, you’re very talented 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you so much!
All of your butterflies are beautiful. Do you have tutorials of how you make their bodies?
Thank you so much - I don't yet but I can make one. I haven't art-ed for a little while due to life stuff but I'll put this on my list for when I get back into it 💙
I love this!! And the one with your fabulous butterfly on it. Thanks so much for sharing this tutorial!! 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you for watching - it means alot 💙💙 these are addictive - you'll want to make so many!!
I really enjoyed this tutorial. I love how you use tools that almost everyone will have around there home! Thank you for sharing. 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you so much 💙💙 I always want to make art accessible to everyone if I can!
Nice work. Great idea just to hide them up :0)
Thank you so much - I think it's like sharing the magic 💙💙
Dang it, I've been trying to see how to reduce a cane with an odd shape, all I've found are round ones
I'll bear this in mind for a future video so I can help you 😊
Hi your butterfly s are stunning. Just as a reference you are using bullseye canes not jelly rolls. Jelly rolls are stacked layers of clay rolled up so you have a striped twist where as bullseyes are start with a single colour plug of clay them wrapped in a strip of clay. I’m really enjoying your tutorials though I will be giving them a go. Thank you. I’ve subbed to your channel.
Thanks for noticing and letting me know - I know the difference but I'm not good at speaking so often get my words mixed up 🙊 But I appreciate you commenting 😊 and thank you so much for subbing 🙏🙏
@@MidnightButterflyDesigns we all do the same. I’m terrible it’s like when you turn the camera you forget how to speak 😂 keep showing us butterflies love them.
Oh gosh the amount of "bloopers" I could do is unreal 😂😂 and thank you - lots coming soon 💙💙
How do you reduce the shape to make it small? just keep pinching?
Essentially yes! Have a look for "reducing polymer clay canes" on UA-cam - it takes a little work but it's worth it 😊 good luck!!
Wow I love it I'll have to pause it a few times lol
Absolutely beautiful! Just stunning. Very happy to find this video. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much!
Amazing! Beautifully done. I hope you can find clay and keep up the good work.
Wow
Would have love to see it reduced and finished in a full butterfly piece
Sometimes it depends on the amount of time I have to be honest but I'll bear this in mind for future videos - thank you 💙
@@MidnightButterflyDesigns well that makes perfect sense and I do appreciate your time…just guess I get greedy and want it all lol. Thank you for helping me with all your videos
What kind of varnish u use? Is water based polyurethane varnish good for air dry polymer clay?
I'll be honest - I don't tend to varnish mine, but when I do I use a water based polyurethane. Oil based varnishes will react with polymer clay so just be aware that any varnish needs to be water based. Also, pro tip, apply a couple of very thin layers. This will minimise bubbles 💙
I love how you give out your instructions. So clear and simple. You def deserve more subs. 👏👏👏
Aww thank you. Thats so kind ❤️
