Your turned into the centre left turning lane when exiting the dmv, do you have to do that? Is that the legality?
@@lfcglory you don't have to, but you always can if a yellow lane exists, and IF no other cars are using it or may be about to use it. passed my test first try. 5-8 min ride around the neighborhood and backing up 20ft in a straight line.
I failed my road test because I misunderstood the rules based on what I saw at 8:55 in this video. I thought that after passing the crosswalk in a school zone, you could speed up to the posted limit of 25 mph (since it’s in a residential/business area). That’s what I believed the video was saying. But during my test, I was told that you actually have to stay at 15 mph until you pass the school zone sign at the other end and not just the crosswalk. This contradicts what I thought I learned from the video, and I was really surprised by the news my proctor gave him when he told me that I have failed.
@@DanielSmith-sd5th yes I'm sorry your test administrator did not know the law, and failed you wrongly. ARS 28-701, (speed law) paragraph B states: "B. Except as provided in subsections C and D of this section or except if a special hazard requires a lesser speed, any speed in excess of the following speeds is prima facie evidence that the speed is too great and therefore unreasonable: 1. Fifteen miles per hour *approaching* a school crossing." *Approaching* a school crossing is the key word/phrase here. That means the area immediately before the crosswalk. You are not approaching after you pass a school crosswalk. The other sign facing away from you is for traffic on the other side of the road, who is *approaching* the crosswalk, not for you. Hence why the sign is facing away from you! What would even be the point of slowing down after a crosswalk? 🤣 Besides making traffic jams worse... Doesn't even make logical sense. Unfortunately, getting a job at the DMV doing driving tests does NOT require extensive training or knowledge of the law. Many of the DMV employees will fail students out of ignorance or misinformation. You could have a case to fight it or make a formal complaint against that employee, for wrongly marking off points. That DMV worker should not be grading road tests if they don't know the law.
@@plopping-wetlyacademyofmot9639 that's what I thought too. I've made a Reddit post for the first time in my life because of how frustrated I was that mentions your video and other sources I've found, I wanted a clear answer on wether if it was my mistake or just a lack of knowledge from the driving instructor at the time, I was desperate. I was on the precipice of victory I thought but oh well.
@@plopping-wetlyacademyofmot9639Is it possible for you to go to r/driving and to click on the post that titles, “I think my driving instructor screwed me over,” posted at just around 20 hours ago. There are people in there that are telling me otherwise. If arguing is not your thing then I understand. I also have another question 'A vehicle shall not proceed at a speed of more than fifteen miles per hour between the portable signs placed on the highway indicating that there shall be no passing, that school is in session and that the driver shall stop when children are in the crosswalk.' Is this referring to the signs right before the crosswalk and the sign around 75 feet away forcing us to slow down to 15mph?
'A vehicle shall not proceed at a speed of more than fifteen miles per hour between the portable signs placed on the highway indicating that there shall be no passing, that school is in session and that the driver shall stop when children are in the crosswalk.' What two signs is this referring to?
@@DanielSmith-sd5th the signs referred to in 28-797 would be the first sign approaching the school crosswalk that says "SPEED LIMIT 15, FINES DOUBLE NO PASSING" and the sign placed in the actual crosswalk that says "STOP WHEN CHILDREN IN CROSSWALK" (That sign is described in the last sentence of statute you posted.) It specifically lists those two signs. One before crosswalk, one double-sided sign in the crosswalk.( Not the backwards sign after it) The backwards sign, after the crosswalk is for cars in the *opposite direction* that are *approaching* the school crosswalk. That is why it is facing away from you. Of course, it wouldn't hurt anything to go 15 for a little longer, and you are free to do that if there are a lot of people around, or pedestrians nearby, that would certainly be reasonable. I'm not saying everyone should immediately speed up after the crosswalk, but it could definitely be argued in court that between 28-701 and 28-797, a person has fulfilled their legal requirements by slowing down while approaching the crossing, and returning to normal speed after it. Sorry you got a misinformed DMV employee. It's not fair that they failed you for that, based on the information given.
I taught myself how to drive at 13 by taking my moms other car out while she was at work, so you'd think I wouldn't be stressed driving at all, but now at 22, I feel so nervous and get stressed just even thinking about driving on the roads in AZ just because of how bad other drivers are. Need to focus on keeping myself and my driving safe, and not stress but it's hard.

Just passed my test today and the course is different but still just as easy as this one.
On Bell and 60th it felt kinda like a trick question, there is two traffic lights but only one really wide lane. I got to the right of the car in the lane and made a right turn on red, signaling and everything, and she said I was wrong for blocking the bike lane. Also when you make that left turn from Scottsdale Rd back to the dmv, did you enter the intersection and wait before turning or did you stay behind the line completely and just wait for it to be clear and turn in one motion
@@hollowdidthisone there are no laws in Arizona against waiting in the middle of the intersection on a left turn. You shouldn't always do it at every intersection but it is not illegal in our state. Also the bike lane on a right turn thing is debatable, as the law only says a right turn must be made "as close as practicable to the right hand edge of the roadway" which includes the bike lane. Either way, it's only 2 points off and you can still pass if you lose 20 points. It's very minor points off.
hey do you know if they still have the 3 point turns in this area?
Update I Passed! Still no three pointer or parallel parking, they make you reverse next to a curb Also for me it was the same route except that instead of turning right into the school, we first turned left on the opposite side of the neighborhood, and then from there went back straight to the school that’s on the right side of the street. And everything else is just like the video!

@@reckless4513 Hey! honestly they did not ask me for my permit or anything, but a day prior I went to a different dmv to renew my permit after it had been expired for over a year just in case, and they renewed it without me retaking the test I’m not sure if they didn’t ask me to take the written test at this Glendale dmv since they might be able to see in their system that I had a permit, or maybe they just don’t ask. I remember getting my first video camera around the same time...This is so wholesome!
You can actually fail by driving too slow, which was what happened to me. Do look at the speed sign and drive close to the speed limit.
Sorry that happened. Very unusual for someone to fail for too slow. "Too slow" on the grading sheet is only -2 points. Speeding is -10. You can lose 20 points and still pass, so either someone has to go too slow *and do other violations that add up to over 20 points* or would have to go too slow 11 times to get under 80 points. Unless the person pulled out on a main road and committed a "dangerous action" (automatic fail) by going 25 in a 40 zone or pulled right out in front of a fast moving car (failure to yield.) How exactly did they explain that you failed for too slow?
@@plopping-wetlyacademyofmot9639 I was going at about 25-30 in a 45 zone, and about 5-10 slower than the speed limit in general, hoping to leave some "safety margin" and avoid speeding. But the examiner said I was too hesitant, conservative, not confident enough and needed to practise more.
@@crimsonckh check out ARS 28-701 online. "Reasonable and prudent speed" The law says drivers can't drive faster than reasonable (the speed limit usually - unless it's raining, pedestrians in the road, traffic jams or road conditions.) It also says we must brake to avoid collisions and execise reasonable care for the protection of others. It also says there is zero tolerance with the speed limit in school zones, residential, etc. It also says it is illegal to speed up on a yellow light (paragraph D) or near railroad tracks, and to slow down for blind corners and narrow winding roads. But the last paragraph says a person shall not drive at a speed LESS than reasonable. So to paraphrase it, you can go the speed limit. If there's a reason to slow down like bad weather or a traffic jam that's ok. But it's not legal or reasonable to go under the speed limit if it's not raining or other hazards. Driving under the speed limit on a main road can cause accidents and will certainly cause road rage, horns and middle fingers. They either automatic failed you for one dangerous action, going that slow, or many individual -2 pts for too slow / waiting too long There really isn't such a thing as too slow on a school or neighborhood (unless other cats are behind you ) but on a main road it can cause chaos with other drivers going more than a couple MPH under the limit. Remember about 95% of our drivers are usually going 5 to 10mph over so that's a big difference in speed. Better luck next time!
@@crimsonckhI take my road test in a couple days. I am sooo nervous that I am going to fail.
Just wanted to clarify. At 0:38 are we allowed to cross the solid yellow line to get into the turn left lane? Or should we enter the turn left lane later?
Yes. The law only says not to drive continuously in the yellow lane longer than 200' or use it for passing. It is also reasonable if done safely, to enter the yellow lane earlier in a traffic jam, or when on a road at a higher speed. Great question, thank you!

hello, i took my road test yesterday and failed because i was going 25 in a school zone. at the turn where it was a weird angle when you took a right, they made me take a left and then make me take a right and then straight where the school zone was. any help?
Thank you for the update. I need to remake this with the new route. It is true that even +1mph in a school zone is an automatic fail. Normally it's +5mph = -10points. +10 over = fail, but the school zones it's +1mph because cops write huge tickets for +1 over in school zones in real life. Good luck next time. Better to learn it on a driving test than learn it from a cop. 👍

Video shows illegal use of turn lane! It is illegal to drive in center (turn lane) through an intersection, state law 28-751 "shall make the turn to the left lane immediately available for the driver's direction of traffic". This is what I learned at traffic school as well. In early part of video, during discussion of decelerating in turn lane, the narrator enters center turn lane and drives for a while (decelerating), but it clear in video the narrator does not take the immediately available left turn", but drives in center lane through an intersection (immediate available left turn). This occurs in 38s of video clip. I like very much these videos, but I had big argument with my girlfriend about this point.
Seems there are still some things left to learn about AZ laws. If you are referring to the first left turn shown in the video using the yellow lane, nothing illegal about it. The law you cited just requires left turns to turn into the left lane on a multi lane road. That's all. (Right turns take the right lane, left turns take the left lane, *unless there are multiple turning lanes at an intersection* ) This law isn't really applicable to the yellow lane. There is nothing illegal about passing one or more driveways or streets in the yellow lane, as long as one does not use the yellow lane as a passing lane or drive in it for longer than 200 feet, according to the law. Hopefully you didn't embarrass yourself in front of your girlfriend too badly. 🤦♂️ The reason I was making a point to enter the yellow lane at normal speed and then start braking after fully inside the lane, is that I was driving on Happy Valley Road where people speed like crazy. Slowing down in the fast lane while entering the yellow lane could potentially cause an accident or road rage, hence the reason for using it that way. Have a great day!
I don't understand what the big "hurry" is all the time with the average American driver. I never feel any temptation to drive around in a big hurry. Driving fast never did much for me personally, I don't get anything out of it at all. It seems very childish and impulsive. I always leave 15-20 minutes early if I need to be somewhere at a certain time, drive the speed limit and never have any issues.
I took the road test (2024 Feb). Here is my routine, more complicated than the vedio. If not mentioned, it is a right turn. DMV - McClintock Dr - E Weber Dr (parallel parking, close to the curb as possible as you can, then back up) - E Curry Rd - N Miller Rd - (New! Left turn!)E Marigold Ln - N bridalwreath - E McKellips Rd - (Left turn!) N Miller Rd (school area) - E Roosevelt St - Hayden Rd (McClintock Dr) - DMV.
Thank you for the update.

What’s best time to come here for less traffic
10:00AM
Good afternoon. I used your videos a few months ago to help me with my test. I have a question about school zones. The azleg website specifies that you must slow down between the portable school zone signs, and says it's the school's responsibility to remove them when school isn't in session. The azleg website does not mention the permanent "when flashing" signs that seem to be common here. In midday at a school near my house, the "when flashing" signs will be off but the roller signs will still be out. Am I supposed to slow down or not? Thanks.
Good question. The school by my house is similar. If the portable sign is out, it's a zero tolerance 15mph zone with double fines. Some schools leave them out all day or forget to take them down, but the police can and do ticket you for going over.
Thank you for the advice. If our law only specifically mentions slowing down between the portable signs, it's probably best to always heed to them.
@wyattazcooks thank you for watching! I love when people ask questions like this. Im always happy to talk traffic laws. AZ Title 28-701 paragraph B: "B. Except as provided in subsections C and D of this section or except if a special hazard requires a lesser speed, any speed in excess of the following speeds is prima facie evidence that the speed is too great and therefore unreasonable: 1. Fifteen miles per hour approaching a school crossing. 2. Twenty-five miles per hour in a business or residential district..." The title of this law is "Reasonable and Prudent Speed; Prima Facie Evidence; Exceptions." This is the law usually cited in speeding tickets on public roads. Technically it is always illegal 24/7 to exceed 15mph in any marked school crosswalk in AZ. This law also does not mention signs need to be posted or any other requirement. The conventional wisdom is that only on a school day or if a special sign is active, is the 15mph enforced. (Only school hours on school days.) I mostly agree with this. The only exception I can think of is if the school is hosting a special event after hours and there will be many pedestrians around nearby. This is common even during summer months. For that reason I usually just go with 15 mph on a school day always, 25 if not a school day but go 15 if the school appears to be occupied or if pedestrians nearby. 👍 The law revolves around the phrase "reasonable and prudent" and I think that is safely reasonable in court with a judge.
@@wyattazcooks I like your Mitsubishi engine profile pic. Is it a 4G63T?
Your excerpt on reasonable and prudent speeds at school crosswalks is interesting. I was referring to 28-797 paragraphs D, F and H: "D. When the school crossings are established, school authorities shall place within the highway the portable signs indicating that school is in session... School authorities shall maintain these signs when school is in session and shall cause them to be removed within one hour after the end of a school session or pursuant to an agreement with a city or town." "F. A vehicle shall not proceed at a speed of more than fifteen miles per hour between the portable signs placed on the highway indicating that there shall be no passing, that school is in session and that the driver shall stop when children are in the crosswalk." "H. A vehicle approaching the crosswalk shall not proceed at a speed of more than fifteen miles per hour between the portable signs placed on the highway indicating that there shall be no passing, that school is in session, that the driver shall stop when children are in the crosswalk and that the civil penalty will double." What these laws seem to imply to me is that the speed restriction is only relevant when the signs are on the road. D suggests they are temporary, by giving a deadline for schools to remove them. F relies on the signs, while H says 15mph approaching crosswalks is only necessary in between the signs. Good eye on the engine. Galant VR-4 showing the world a turbo 4 cylinder can kick. Only topped by the Legacy GT's EJ255 in my book.
Do they make you do this through cones? Or do you actually do it on the road
The DMV doesn't even require this anymore at most places. Back when they used to, it was in a parking lot with cones. You can always call the DMV you are going to and ask. Nowadays most just have you do a road test with no parking test.

My UK driving license has expired now and the written test I did has also expired, when I did that test, I didn't know I'd have to take the road test and I didn't feel ready, then Covid hit and everything shut down so now it's expired. Can I still do the road test without having a valid UK licence? And will I have to redo the written test all over again? 😞 Do I get the same road test as a student or will it be different because I drove for 20 years back home...I'm sorry for the million questions..so they don't really ask many questions on signs etc? Just a few about the lanes etc? I just don't know what to study as I can't find any answers to my questions and I'm so frustrated 😞 Thank you again for everything and I will continue to watch the rest of your videos 🖤
@Niki Strouthos no worries. I don't know if you can renew the UK license online, but an AZ permit can be renewed for a small fee . I don't think you need to take the test again to renew it.. (I could be wrong - call them to be sure) Or, once you renew the AZ learners' permit, you can take a license test at the DMV and get licensed the next day. Let me know if that answers your questions. Worst case scenario, you will have to take the online permit test (10 minutes or so) and then go in person to do the 5 minute driving test at the DMV
@Niki Strouthos if you do have to retake the permit test, the answers are direct quotes from the handbook at the DMV. You can also find the AZ drivers manual free online . There are practice tests you can take that are identical to the real test online as well. Don't worry it's easy. Mostly tedious questions about who has right-of-way and how close to park from a crosswalk, how far to stay behind a fire truck, etc
