Nice and clean truck, congrats on it! You should join the Comanche Club forum and maybe start your own build thread, lot's of great info on there, and good folks always willing to help. Which brings me to the next question. Any updates on it?

That’s a good idea Joe! I may just do that. A full restoration series is coming this spring. So far I have just replaced engine parts. Radiator, block heater, starter, alternator, ect. Fun stuff coming soon! It may even include a rare factory sport bar 🤫🤗

I had death wobble. Tried everything. The only thing that worked was to put an adjustable castor on. They don’t have adjustable castors so you put one on under 100.00 and I guarantee you your wobble will be gone. Hallelujah!

Had mine new for going on 27 years. ❤❤❤ my 98 TJ Sport. Have replaced the factory with header. This improves performance exiting the air trapped within. Fuel economy and performance. I am thinking of putting it on a modified Dodge Ram frame. I have replaced frame components a few times. I think the Ram frame may be a great solution.

Another problem is thrust bearing wear on 6 cylinders. Have someone push the clutching and watch the harmonic balancer, it shouldn’t move forward. A worn bearing can cause significant movement. Avoid clutches with heavy pressure plate spring pressure as it will wear it much faster.

A big source of death wobble is poorly balanced wide mud tires.

Young man loved the vid but you forgot the best Jeeps! I had the last of the Real Jeeps! I bought a 86 CJ-7 and it came with both hard top and doors along with soft top and doors! Loved it to death! In 99 I went to Mopar dealership dealership to check out new ones! Salesman told me that the new ones were off road rated! I pointed to my 86 and told him you have nothing that will keep up to my CJ! And nothing produced since will! Sorry to burst your bubble!

Yeah, you need some wider fender flares there so you're not busting people's windows out on the road because that's exactly what you're doing with your tire sticking out like that.

Very, very nice MJ. Good choice. My parameters would be exactly the same: 4.0, 5 speed, 4x4, short box. Yes, the AX15 would be nice, but you've got a great truck.

Synthetic line has to be replaced often because if it gets mud, dirt, sand etc in the fibers it causes accelerated wear and strength loss. It you get mud in it it's almost impossible to get 100% clean and can reduce its strength by an unknown amount each time. Imagine rubbing your line with sandpaper and you get the idea.

Excellent video…right to the point! I am an original owner of a “special order” 1997 TJ Sport…now with 152K “on the clock”. I’m retired from two careers: Navy Officer and federal LEO. I’ve suffered some medical issues, and even though I own a new Tacoma and a classic Porsche, I still prefer to drive the TJ. Why? It’s predictable, the visibility is great, all my kids learned stick….frankly, I don’t have the heart to get rid of her. Of your issues noted, I’ve only experienced three: frame rust, the manifold, and some leaks. How many years I have left, obviously I haven’t a clue….but I’m getting ready to sink $20K into a complete restoration, including a new complete frame, update the interior, lighting and electronics, a repaint, etc. Again, as my name is on the Morrone Sticker, and it is practically a family member….goodbye Tacoma, goodbye Porsche….and I’ll drive the Jeep until I can’t, and leave it to my kids. Again, amigo….great video! Bravo-Zulu, well done. Very well done!

Thank you for sharing your remarkable story! Your deep connection with your TJ is truly inspiring. As a fellow Jeep enthusiast, I'm impressed by your commitment to preserving this vehicle that has been such an important part of your life and family history. Your restoration plans sound incredibly thoughtful - investing $20K to breathe new life into a vehicle with so much personal significance is admirable. The fact that all your kids learned to drive stick on this Jeep adds another layer of sentimental value. It's more than just a vehicle; it's a family heirloom with stories embedded in every mile. Your commitment to keeping the TJ running, even with other impressive vehicles in your garage, speaks volumes about the special bond between a driver and their trusted Jeep. I'm certain your children will cherish this vehicle and the memories it represents. Best of luck with the restoration, and here's to many more miles of adventure with your beloved Jeep! Safe travels!

I tried installing these today and currently I'm in a jam. I soaked all of the body mount bolts in pb blaster overnight. The front bolts came undone by hand but the middle and rear mounts on both sides wouldn't even budge, even with a 3' breaker bar. So I quit while I was ahead so I didn't start breaking stuff. I'm open to ideas.

Love the MJ Comanches! They're hard to find due to their rarity and I have a '98 Grand Cherokee ZJ Laredo 4.0 but it's a 2wd and I've had it for 13 years and it now has a battery problem and could be possibly be a parasitic drain.

Dry time is based on DWPT and RH, this is important because dry to touch IS NOT dry, meaning ...the paint still needs to off-gas. Putting another coat can trap gasses, causing the paint to pop right off.

No way is it the outside parts. It's definitely the motor and fuel system. No way that the terrible gas mileage is caused by the tires or accessories. It's a dodge. I have a 2014 jk lifted with 35s.
