    I like the approach they took in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle concerning the mini-map in regards of immersion. 1- The mini-map is off unless you open it. Meaning that if you want to you can simply never use the mini map in the first place. 2- The mini-map comes in the form of a map that your character has inserted within his journal. Meaning that there is an in-game explanation to why you are looking at a map; which is even more reinforced by the fact that every level you collect or are given by someone the map of the location.

    Not only no minimap, but also no HUD or as minimal HUD you can get away with. I don't know why devs insist on these really heavy thick framed HUD elements (like Skyrim and KC:D in your example) when the same information could be displayed in a much more subtle way. Good games let you customize the HUD, in great games they are designed in a way that you don't need one.

    While some of the criticism I've heard for Witcher 4 are valid or at least worthy of discussion (CDPR hiring practices, Witcher Ciri breaks lore, etc.) the criticisms I don't understand is Ciri being uglified. I didn't think Ciri looked ugly at all and I'm convinced some of these critics are either trolls or just want something to be angry about.

    When it comes to ciri beying overpowered, the game is as easy as you want, its rpg after all, you can gear up or change difficulty, geralt in witcher 3 is overpowered compared to books, but noone cares bcs its fun, you can literally become a mage if u have a good build, and spam signs like a madman, what i see tho with ciri is a great option to fast travel from whereever you are, seems like a great quality of life feature

    When it comes to witcher 3 endings, we dont see ciri or geralt dying, its just said, soo she can come back, just a bit later and then become a witcher, and if she becomes nilfgard queen, she can get bored of that, run away and also become a witcher, soo all 3 endings lead to that possibility, it just opens dialogue options depending on choices

    What scares me is that actual talent behind Witcher and Cyberpunk are gone, joined other studios or started their own (Rebel Wolves). And seeing what kind of hiring practices they have now, I am really afraid of the future of Witcher franchise.

    • @D3vZ1ZuLu
      @D3vZ1ZuLu 6 днів тому

      This is misinformation. CDPR has over 130 Witcher veterans working on W4 right now, and they've taken up most leadership positions, including all lead writers, the narrative director, the quest director, etc., that have worked on all previous Witcher titles. The other developers are a mix of people who joined shortly after W3 released and worked on Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine, Cyberpunk, or, at the absolute latest, joined post-Cyberpunk to fix the game and create Phantom Liberty. The vast majority have worked on Witcher and Cyberpunk as a whole, tho. Rebel Wolves is a tiny studio, and only a fraction of them are ex-CDPR employees. The same goes for Fool's Theory, the studio behind the Witcher 1 remake. They also left years ago and weren't involved in any projects since 2021, such as Phantom Liberty; otherwise they'd be mentioned in the credits. The trailer also looked great all around, with great characters, atmosphere, and a lot of attention to Slavic details. Don't believe in grifters whose job is to manufacture lies to monetize outrage. Also, CDPR has incredibly high standards when it comes to hiring and only accepts experienced and skilled veteran developers; taking a look at their job offers will tell you as much. Their CEO also debunked those claims officially, as well as a bunch of other devs.

    Both Amita and Sabal were way worse than pagan. Amita was the better of the two because while she starts mandatory military inscriptions a thing to protect the drug fields that was not her goal her goal was to create a stable economy with thriving industries, however to do it she had to go by means that she didn’t want but viewed as necessary until other businesses took off. Whereas with what you said sabal wanted a terrorist state where you follow their gods, be imprisoned for non obedience or killed for offending their gods some amita is the best of the 2 but still a bad option. I was extremely disappointed that we didn’t get a pagan campaign like we did for Amita and sabal. The hole point is your choice and it didn’t let you see what choicing pagan from the start of the campaign would mean.

    This is the beauty of this game. There is no real good option. You came here, you see a brutal dictator and you are saved by the rebels, who glorify your father's name. Then you learn that the rebels are either religious fanatics or a wannabe drug cartel, that your father murdered your step-sister in cold blood, and that your mother was actually in love with the dictator, who is still brutal by the way. And the only way to fulfill your mother's wish is not to kill the villain, because if you do you'll never learn the truth and find your lost sister. And in the meantime, you became a soldier and a killer. There is no good guy, not even the protagonist.

    Yes, he was a good guy to Ajay, he clearly cares about him, he tries to make up for the misunderstanding in the opening section, willingly steps down from power if you spare him thus letting you take over, and takes you right to Lahksmana in the secret ending, as well as the lesser of evils compared to the Golden Path leaders. If only the game let you side with him, Amita and Sabal's ending just feel wrong and the game knows it. Lore wise Pagan was a decent ruler in fact, all went to shit only when Mohan Gale, the Leader of the Golden path killed Pagan's daugter which was a toddler at the time.

    I think games (late 2000's - early 2010's) look better, because in real life your eyes don't see everything in hyper detail unless you directly focus on it. The simpler graphics are more akin to how people see in real life rather than everything being so shiny, crisp, and 100% sharpness.

    Great Points. But I'd argue that Assassin's Creed isn't the greatest example just on the grounds that for their time they have always been really beautiful graphically. The Elder Scrolls have 1000% gone downhill from a story and gameplay perspective they have been basically stripped down. My issue with newer games is that they always have to interject some real world agenda into them that take me out of the world.

  • @TheBlueGrinchofSurgery

    Pagan Min is basically any other real life modern dictator, like the Middle Eastern dictators: Saddam Hussein and Col. Muammar Gaddafi for example. Both were, by no means, bad people, but their dictatorial rule, no matter how brutal, brought stability to their respective nations and made them somewhat prosperous. Iraq became quite a powerful nation in the Middle East in terms of economy and military, and Libya was so successful under Gaddafi, that the nation at one point of time had a GDP per capita higher than the United States and the EU. Look what happened after they were toppled? Terrorism and conflict plagues Iraq and Libya and they are destabilized like hell. Like you said, Pagan is a necessary evil to prevent more chaos, and that's what a dictator truly is. And I like how much they humanized tha concept with Pagan and actually created a dilemma with the player by giving them a personal connection to Pagan. Far Cry games have some insane deep meanings behind them, and FC4 delivered well.

    I take issue with graphical limitations being a factor here. When Morrowind and Oblivion came out, its graphics were HYPE. I remember drooling over Oblivion's screenshots before it came out thinking "There is no way this will ever run on my computer." Graphics have been a major selling point for decades, but the difference seems to be in the passion of games' creators. I also think that games used to be made to be fun, whereas now they're made to be addictive.
