I'm similar, I own a bunch of games and most are neglected while I continue to replay my favourites. Some I've played 20-30 times. But I've owned The Witcher 3 for quite a while and i haven't got far past the tutorial
The main problem I am having is that, there are simply not a lot of great games releasing anymore and some of the great franchises are just not releasing great titels anymore.
This is absolutely a symptom of the abundance of cheap or even free games in the digital age; acquired through sales, bundles, key re-sellers etc. I have 1000+ Steam games (majority un-played as you said), a huge library in Epic Game Store purely from free weekly games and a bunch of stuff on other devices/launchers. The paralysis of playing something when you have too much choice is absolutely real and it's easy to fall into the trap of buying cheap stuff just because its cheap and not because you really want to play it. The advice in the video is great.
this is so true, im literally going through it today, i downloaded 4 games, played 10 mins then turned off and watched youtube lol i think il be taking your advice from today.
I’ve taken up crocheting because of this very reason. Thinking maybe it’s time to find a hobby that doesn’t involve technology. While I still love to play games that’ll never go away, sometimes a nice healthy break is a good way to help decide what you’ll want to be in the mood for again. Hiking has been great too, with it coming closer to the fall there’s lots of new scenery to explore with the changing colors of the leaves. Games will always be there, but I think it’s good to try some new things too maybe something you’ve never done before. ❤
Yes, 1. Only play games you are truly excited about. 2. Avoid buying games just because they arepopular or on sale. 3. Focus on games that provide real enjoyment, even if it means replaying old favorites. Often times my favorites are games i played in my childhood / young adult. So there's a factor of nostalgia in that, too. In addition to some older games being ACTUALLY really good, and better than many new titles, haha. One example is Gothic 1, a RPG which is mostly known in the german-speaking region. There's a remake of Gothic 1 in the making and i'm way more hyped for it than any other title. This kind of focus helps against the paradox of choice / choice overwhelm :)
I’ve been suffering from this for the past 2 years and it has ruined a lot of my experiences. I’ve recently been getting back to gaming and I’ve enjoyed Alan wake 2, Jedi Survivor, and Ghost of Tsushima without any disruption. I do suffer from choice paralysis from time to time but I’m beginning to manage myself better. One of the reasons I’ve figured is also because there is just too much noise out there nowadays and many games to at get released are not innovative enough to grab our interest so much to encourage to ignore everything else and play it
Not just a criticism but also a suggested course of action. That's refreshing to see in the gaming space. I have 400+ games in my library and sometimes, I wish I could just remove some of them. No refunds, no exchange. Just whittle it down to a well curated library. I'd eat the cost and make better choices in the future.
This happens to me too! I know it sounds crazy but we have to many options. I play each game for a little bit but never beat them and go on to the next. Back in the day before cheap games or xbox game pass you had to beat the game because you could only afford 1 game every few months.
at my age 95% of the game ive finished were not played on steam/pc halo 123 god of war 123 bloodborn skyrim supersmash bros zelda etc even pokemon good OL day
Bro, more than 70 games in my library atm, and good and recent games, like Cyberpunk, BG3, Elden Ring, Mount and Blade II, Mechwarrior 5, etc, and I spend my time always playing Battlefield 1 and Rimworld. Games that came out like 10 years ago, when I play a game at all, and don't just spend my time on youtube as I am right now. Guess I bought a beast of a rig just to up everything in BF1 to max.
As a kid I would get a game for Xmas, maybe another for my birthday. I played them over and over and over. 40 years later I have over 270 games on Steam and I barelly finished any. Unless the game is amazing I would get bored and move to something else. The only games I finished multiple times are Witcher 3, the Disnonored series, and Octopath.
There are times when I just scroll through my library of games for hrs not knowing what I really want to play. Other times I download a bunch and delete them after playing bc they aren't the adventure I'm craving
You say you can't choose so you end up watching Netflix. I have the same problem with Netflix. I think the real problem here is that most of the games are garbage, and the good games we own are already all played-out.
Abundance of choice leads to FOMO. Plus a lot of us are just old and we have seen pretty much all there is, so very little feels new. Personally I try to have no more than 3 big games downloaded and I give everything at least 5 1 hour sessions. If I don't get into it it gets deleted. Limit your choice, have a few games from each genre (fps, rpg, racing etc) and a couple of old comfort games.
Then again, people who play Roblox don't stop playing whatever they see or launch first in the application. It is probably due to big titles we have on pc or consoles tend to be very long games. Most of todays games you can't even sit down to play for a half our or forty minutes, cause you won' t accomplish anything for that "short" time, maybe get to the next checkpoint at best. That is my reason why sometimes I feel like playing, but I realise that my short free time does not make it worth spending it on games. As before, in the 16 bit era, you could beat whole games in 30-40 minutes, once you got good at them. I think that is the main reason we strughle to play anything today.
Because games are made to waste your time. And as an adult with responsibilities, you just don't want to start a game knowing you may not even fucking get to the second check point before you get called to do some important shit. Also old games are boring now and new games are made to be boring.
This is essentially the same reason why getting rich does not make you happy. If anything it only highlightens how empty you really are. On a separate note, this is too much of reflection for anyone who is trying to make it as a youtuber. Catering to audience is a must. What you gonna do when the time comes? Frankly, I see this video as a still small voice trying to postpone the inevitable.
this is idiot advice. the issue is not "just being unable to make a choice" it is a combination of lack of excitement about specific titles and being afraid of wasting time on the "wrong" title. it is a psychological issue that is more complex to solve than saying "well, just fix it".
I want to play everything, so everytime I end up not playing anything.

Same lmfao, I want to enjoy it, but 3 times now I played 2 hours tops and dropped it and started a fresh playthrough every time.

Do you ever feel compeled to beat or 'finish' games but really the game is not that great or just average? I feel guilty about it, its stupid lol

I've settled for 'fulltime' Elite Dangerous 🤷🏻♂️ getting old i guess

I’ve played both Witcher 3 and Skyrim and Witcher 3 is a class above Skyrim. Witcher 3 is so one of a kind

You can actually cure yourself out of it, just install a random game from your backlog and play it.
