My 2009 Prius stopped in the middle of a very busy road on a Friday afternoon. Worst part was locked into P so I could not shift it into N to push it out of traffic. I turned on the hazard lights and stood 50 feet from the back of the car warning cars in my lane to change lanes. Most folks got the idea after seeing my car dead (the hazard lights were not easy to see in the bright daylight), but some folks just ignored me and drove all the way up to the back of my car. LOL Out of the 100s of cars, 2 kind gentlemen came to help and realized I could not get into N to push it out of the way... the last gentlemen said we could force into N ifwe removed the center console. In the meantime, tow truck was called and hopefully they called Police to help direct traffic around my dead 'once very trusty' Prius. Finally jiggled the gear knob back and forth as the second gentleman suggested and it went to D, then to R and quickly lit up N and back to P. Once I saw N light up temporarily, I felt hope and just kept at it... When N lit up, we pushed the car into a driveway/parking lot. Big relief!!! Very grateful to the two gentlemen that stopped to help!!! Got my car towed home and leaving it there for now. The Red triangle of death appeared as well as the (!) in a yellow circle, VSC, check engine and the low tire pressure lights were on right after the car died... oh, the area where the D, R, P, and N lights were went crazy and blinking but no D, R, P, N lights appeared... just a bunch of horizontal blinking dashes (short lines). Any idea what caused this? Glad I was not driving to the airport on the interstate! Need to do that tomorrow with our other car!!!

I just had to do this, but nothing compares to having to change the ABS actuator. My god was that a bitch. Took me 10 hours, but I saved about 2k doing it myself. I really like the prius gen 2, but damn is it cramped in there. I really want the new 2024 model, that thing is just sexy. Had one behind me today. Got about 8k saved, shooting for 12 to 15k and waiting for either 2025 to come out or I may wait until next year and get a 2025 when the 2026 comes. I am hoping they have better supply next year because the supply chain is a joke and I am sure doen on purpose. You pretty much have to order around here or go used and I just don't love higher apr on used so I am just waiting it out. Either way I am keeping my gen 2 as I dash on the side and am not about to do that in a new car. Plus it is nice to have a backup. I also have a Mazda 3 2013 and really like the new cx30s. Waiting on Mazda to do my hybrids. Supposedly cx5 is getting a new gen hybrid to match cx70 and 90 (to expensive for my taste). May even wait for new gen mazda 3 to see if it gets one. My gf and mom both have a cx 5. Mom has 170k miles and no issues as of yet and gf had a pump fail at 140k. So solid cars imo. My 3 has maybe 600 in repairs outside tires and stuff and it sits at 170k. So we have had a great experience with Mazda. Wish they were more popular. I see soooo many Kias and Hyundai on the road lately and while I know they are better than they use to be, I just could not imagine buying any of that shit.

Toyota battery mgt system will regulate smart charging and discharging. Its overkill to do what u suggested imo. Also put a car to N to while driving is not a good idea to ur car

Thanks! got a weird coolant leak at bottom of inverter. replaced the pump for a problem code. then found a drip on the bottom of the car next to the inverter coolant drain plug. the face of the transmission has silicone from an old repair. I'm confused how to get to this seal??? Thank you 2009 prius, I only have two of them.

Hello, any idea why a 2007 Prius hv battery fan does not auto turn on when battery temp rises? Note fan will auto run when controlled by hybrid assistant app. Thanks Frank

A couple of things to bear in mind regarding GenII Prii: The instrument cluster is subject to a bad capacitor which can cause it to go blank and manifest as a couple of strange malfunctions in the car, such as being unable to turn it off. A person with a good soldering iron and some precise soldering skills can fix it; you have to dismantle the dash to get to it. The center multi-function display is subject to micro cracks in its connectors, causing it to go blank and not respond. This disables several features, including AC control. NOTE: if your AC is on when the screen goes blank, it stays on. You just can't change the fan speed or temperature. You can still engage the defroster via the steering wheel button. There are a couple of specialists who can repair these things. The inverter coolant pump can die on you, causing the car to display the Red Triangle of Death. Pull over immediately. Fortunately, replacing it is actually pretty easy and the part is not terribly expensive. With the exception of the inverter coolant pump, the car is remarkably flexible in shrugging off assorted component failures; it will keep soldiering on like a battered old truck. Take care of it, and it'll take care of you.

do i need to do a coolant flush after replacing this part? some error codes came up after i replaced the coolant pump and now im at a grease monkey getting the coolant topped off repeatedly. the error codes showing up are P261B and P0117

How did you clear the P0A80 permanent>? I've fixed my hybrid battery and driven 227 miles and code still is there... I can't pass state inspection. Any suggestions/?

4 seems silly. People literally camp in their Prius no problem. If you’re parked (car is ON) and the AC is running, it will engage the engine as needed (a few minutes per hour usually).

Nice video! 3th gens prius are not the worse however if properly maintain and head gasket replace when it should have been this engine would have seen many more miles to go! Far as the best gen is 2nd gen 04-09 would probably be my pick!

How do I know if the booster pump is damaged because I'm having a constant beeping sound in my car a 2010 Toyota Prius. My ABS light on is on my brake light is on and my traction light is on and it all came on along with this beeping sound and the beeping sound will not stop at all like it literally is driving me nuts well I have only just $200 scanners. I scanned my car and so did AutoZone and discount Auto. They all said that it's coming up booster pump that there's too much air in it. Is there a way to remove the air out of the booster pump or do I need to replace the whipper pump booster pump?

My water pump came up as scheduled maintenance and I’m Glad i had it changed as recommended.

AC runs on the 12V battery system.

Great video boss! Question for you.. since you say that the head gasket will blow once the water pump goes out, would it be safe to say that if we change the water pump before that happens, that might save the head gasket or at least make it last longer?
