Albuquerque is always in the top 10 most dangerous cities in America. Check out Breaking Bad before deciding to move here. We love it because it's true. It's actually so much worse now. Passing out food and supplies on Central leaves me broken and having nightmares afterward. We desperately need new leaders in NM ❤🕊

My great great etc. grandfather was the sole owner of the Alameda Land Grant. This consisted of Alameda, Paradise Hills, Corrales, and Rio Rancho. Captain Juan Gonzales-Bas was killed by the Apache's November 14th 1743. I have inherited property from my grandfather and now we're down to 14 acres. My great great great etc. grandfather kept all of Corrales and my grandfather inherited 65 acres. Read about him someday, I was fascinated!

I know the traffic isn't as bad here as other cities, however one thing I found surprising here in NM though not being a native here is the amount of road rage. I've been followed home by an individual for just simply making a lane change. I realize this happens everywhere, but it's certainly prominent here, at least in my opinion. We had an incident where a little girl died from someone shooting at a car here. Something to be aware of; you have to be extremely careful when driving.

You completely glossed over Barelas and it's right there on the map. You might think it's sub-par and not worth mentioning (or also Raynolds too). We moved here last fall from San Diego after doing a lot of research on the area and deciding we wanted to be close to downtown for access to Old Town, Downtown, UNM, Knob Hill, and the Airport. It's a quaint little neighborhood that has been gentrifying. And because it's one of the oldest in the city due to the railroad, it's predominantly filled with elderly families who have lived here for generations. And because of that, they like to take care of their neighborhood. We have a nice park next to the Zoo, and a brand new community center. And in addition to being walking distance to the Zoo, we have the Bosque trails just a few blocks away as well the historic Rail Yards and it's wonderful seasonal market with tons of food and artists. Lastly, there are a lot of people remodeling houses here and the city has recently invested several million into revitalizing 4th street and they will be making a 7 mile bike trail wrapping around downtown which will encompass Barelas. For the costs, centralized location, and fast access to everything the city has to offer, I wouldn't live anywhere else (unless l could afford a house over $500k).

I could be wrong here! From personal experience I've had a number of friends move away over the past 5 years for job opportunities elsewhere. The majority of them miss Albuquerque and talk about coming back, I hope they do! My point was larger cities like Dallas, PHX, Denver, Austin will have more employment opportunities.

Great video, but you don't address the functional aspects of the different styles. These aesthetic decisions were in large part driven by practical engineering concerns. To start with, while you claim that adobe bricks are good insulators, that is not true: they are poor insulators (R value of only 0.25/inch) but they have a lot of thermal mass, and that is what makes them so great for the climate, as it smooths off the highs and lows and get the temperature to a more constant level. (Most modern adobe homes have insulation on the outside to try to achieve both goals.) The reason for small windows in the years before glass was that a wall of adobe facing south would soak up solar energy gave the maximum chance of warmth at night. Glass allowed for solar gain to happen inside a building, which is more efficient. The problem with the stucco imitation of adobe walls is that they have very little thermal mass, and so this sophisticated understanding of how a building works in its climate is lost. Now we build identical houses facing any which way (so the sun pours in on summer days) and have to blast heat and/or AC to compensate for that poor understanding of the mechanics of homes in desert climates.
