Thanks for the tutorial! I'm figuring out if I can make a spaceship to feature in a short film I may be developing. I've very little blender experience so it is quite the challenge. Quick question: It seems the new Displacement X doesn't have the dot grid? Am I missing it, or is there an alternative for that? Thanks!
I have a question: How do you create the "checker surface" in the background of your 3D scene so it can be replace by a transparent area in png file ?? Idk if it's clear : What render mode do you have to activate to have the png transparency checker surface so you can bring some modification on photoshop =( ?
On the right panel in Blender click on the top button which should look like a photo camera, click on that scroll down until you see "Film" and then check the transparent checkbox. Should be good to go! Also make sure to export as a PNG with Alpha turned on so the background will be transparent in your final image. Hope this helps!

Nice! Love the subtle additions in PS
I think that it's must important if your render can tell a story or incite the imagination. Many of the "1 hour" images I see are some bizarre or abstract grouping of objects and lighting that may look cool I guess but nothing more than that. Your scene with guys with guns for example ignites the imagination and you immediately find yourself wondering if they're part of a resistance group fighting a oppressive regime or is it simply a battle sequence. It draws you in

Can't we use these textures in Eevee render?
you can, there's just no adaptive subdivison you have to apply the texture on a displacement modifier and subdivide until the object has enough detail. Hope this helps!
Slight correction, I needed no refernce images on start,as I created my startrek era spaceship from a cube. But ya, as I go( not done), I find reference images and docs valuable to maintain cred.
It's whatever works best for the final product! Just have fun and don't worry about being too exact!

What are the hot-keys you used to undo changes you did at the start when you randomized the area when creating the city? Google etc gives me "Shift+Z" for that but that does something entirely different. Also, what are the keys used to make these... "cut-outs" when making the base of the star destroyer?
Weird it said Shift+Z for undo. It's control or command +Z hold the key for control or command and then press Z whilst holding the other key down. Should work for you, but remember that you only have so many undos before you've gone back too far where it isn't saved. Hope this helps!
@@skilllanoodle my bad, it's Ctrl+Z not Shift+Z, memory fooled me there. Anyhow, upon looking through the tutorial I realized that I rly should do the basics tutorials first because quite a lot of that "normal" stuff looks super complex for a beginner.
@@FinalDevastator It can be a bit tricky at first but you should definitely do the donut tutorial from blenderguru it's really the best learning tool for beginners better than I could teach.

@@Some_Guy_Called_Raven It's pretty standard, tried to create a download link for mine but for some reason it wouldn't stay linked. I would suggest using a preset and just adjust to get some that are more detailed and others that are more plated. Sorry about that, it's been a pain trying to get those textures to people.
@@skilllanoodle You're not the only one having linking issues. With the dot grid for the lights.. I removed those same patterns you mentioned. I also dislike them.. they're too "bulky" for a ship or hull. I also removed the 3 outline to leave just solids. Is this similar to what you were doing?

@@NupeWoop I beveled first then subdivided. Beveling controls the subdivision curving the object. But yeah you made me realize I definitely made this is minecraft years ago without even realizing!
