Pretty simple channel with the main content being centered around my hobbies for boating, bowhunting, and family. So no fancy video productions to be found here!
I have always appreciated how-to videos, so decided to create them for boat maintenance/questions in hopes they will help others out. If you have a suggestion for a video, send me a comment and I will see what I can do!
Thx

2008 - 2012 Honda Accord spark plugs and coil pack change, 2.4l 4 cylinder 8th Gen
Video showing how to change the spark plugs and coil packs in a Honda 2.4l engine (2012 Accord).
The items I used can be found at the links below:
Denso spark plugs (iridium long life part #3461 / SXU22HCR11S, pack of 4): amzlink.to/az0BCpHmoHpjz
NGK iridium spark plug equivalent. This is the part number plug I removed (LKR7DIX-11S). The car was running fine, I just didn't have the history on it to know when/if they had ever been changed: amzlink.to/az0bs1KpS1k21
Denso coil packs (part #673-2313): amzlink.to/az05c3TglcZNg
NGK coil-pack equivalent: amzlink.to/az0Uri0ajvnAq
As for other sellers with much less expensive offerings for 'Denso/NGK' items, buyer beware! They are probably not true Denso/NGK parts.....
Permatex dielectric grease: amzlink.to/az00tTR17z6JD
Permatex anti-seize: amzlink.to/az0vvZAVThHyc

HI . I'm considering buying this radio for my son's Honda. How has it held up and performed so far? Thanks in advance!
My daughters are the ones who drive our 2 Hondas. I ask them every week or so 'how are your radios working'? And I get the typical (short) teenager answer of 'fine Dad'. If there was an issue with them, I would hear about it..... I do drive the cars on occasion, but for myself, just put them in 'OEM FM' mode as I am not a music streamer. In summary, so far so good!! They are very happy with them. Good luck if you proceed with an install/purchase. My next purchase for the cars may be remote start kits. It is COLD here in Iowa right now.
Hey there! I came across this very helpful video and noticed that some of my climate control lights were also out on my 2008 Honda Accord. I got the ones off Amazon (the one that you put in description) and they work! Thank you!
Thank you for the follow-up! Did you notice any difference in the brightness?
@@iowabuckeye No problem. It is about the same amount of brightness as the original, or if anything the new ones off Amazon is brighter!
I bought a very similar unit to this one because this exact one got taken off of Amazon before I could buy it, but I’m having trouble with the Bluetooth audio. I made sure to plug the back up camera cord in and run everything properly and I’m assuming it’s because of the aux breakout cable but my car doesn’t seem to have the cable running behind the radio or a connector to the radio for that.
This unit is still available on Amazon. Not sure I understand your issue?
@@iowabuckeyeI bought an almost identical one and followed all the intrusions you gave but the audio break out cable didn’t have anywhere to connect to the back of my stock radio and there wasn’t a plug on the wiring harness for it either
@@ashtondoss1045 I just added a detailed comment at the bottom of video's description which I think may be your issue. Some Honda radios have different connectors on the back of them..... Read my comment and I hope it solves you problem.
@@iowabuckeyethank you so much!! Your video helped me a lot with this instal!!

I am glad you found it helpful!
Thanks for making the video about installing the new Android system-it was super helpful and gave me the confidence to make the purchase. I have a 2012 Honda Accord, just like the one you were working on in the video, but I’ve run into an issue with the breakout cable that came with the kit. The cable I received has 22 pins, but my car’s plug has 24 pins, so it doesn’t fit. Do you think they sent the wrong cable, or could there be another issue? Looking forward to your advice. Thanks again for the great video!
If you look through some of the older comments, a few had this issue. It sounds like Honda has a few versions of radios with that connector varying between them. I assume you are referring to the connector that breaks out the AUX interface? The solution for them was to just not use that harness and rather use the long AUX connector that was supplied to connect between the AUX port in your armrest and into the red/white ‘outs’ on the new head’s wiring. This does require drilling a small hole in the bottom of the armrest to feed it through. You could try to contact the seller to see if they have a solution for the type of radio in your car.
@@iowabuckeye I could kiss you right now
How u get a Honda code
If you have the owners manual, there is a chance someone wrote it down somewhere in there. Else I hear some have stickers in the glove box with it written on them. If not you can contact a Honda dealership and give them your VIN. They can then look the code for your car up.
Hello, I own a 2012 coupe could you please post a short video showcasing how you ran the rear camera for the coupe if you already have. I am highly considering this unit but I don’t want to somehow mess something up. I would greatly appreciate it! Love the amount of detail in your videos. absolutely amazing!
Also, how is the unit keeping up. Have you guys ran into any issues with power draw or connections?
I actually did not film running the camera wire for our 2012 coupe, but it was actually much easier and I will try to explain. I did the same procedure to run under the front seat to get into the rear seat area. But from there I did not have to remove the rear seat bottom cushion. Instead, I just pushed the wire under the side plastic, ran along the bottom edge of the rear cushion, then tilted the seat back forward to run it into the trunk. There is a pivot point on the seat in this part of the process, so make sure the wire is BEHIND it. It is also not necessary to drill a hole through metal to get the wire from the license plate bracket and into the trunk. Rather there is a large grommet (I'd guess 1 inch) located between the license plate and left tail light that you can push out (just look, you will find it). Just push it out, drill a hole in it big enough to run the RCA cable end through, then reinstall. And add some silicon if you would like to keep any elements out. All wire splices are the same. As for how the units are holding up, both are working just fine. Seems there are a lot of these same type of Android heads available, and per the comments in my initial head install video, certain sellers seem to have more issues than others. Especially in the wire harnesses that come with them. Good luck if you proceed. If you would have questions when installing, please create a 'new' comment as I am more likely to see it. And please buy through my links if you would!! Thank you!
hey bro thank you so much for posting this video. you got the best installation vid out there! just a quick question: does the unit allow you to adjust the brightness of the screen so it's not too bright at night? does it allow you to even turn off the screen?
also i saw that you put the gps antenna tucked behind the head unit below the cover. did gps work for you, cuz i thought it would need to be exposed out so it has unobstructed view to the sky for it to work?
You are welcome man! Yes, you can control the backlight brightness. Just select 'settings', then scroll down to 'brightness'. There is both a day and night setting, so I assume it switches when the car's lights are on. The head does have its own power button, so you can turn it completely off. As for the GPS antenna, yes it does work as installed. My daughters use Carplay/their phones through Bluetooth for mapping services, but the speedometer function on the head does work. It does take it a few minutes to acquire after pulling out of the garage, but that is expected. Now would it work better if fully exposed? Probably, but works fine for what we use it for. Have fun with the install if you decide to get one. Thx
@@iowabuckeye thank you so much! yes i'm planning to order this soon (will use your links of course!) I saw on your other backup camera video that you've installed the FM antenna on the top right corner of your windshield. have you considered putting it behind the head just like what you did for the gps antenna?
@@aaronchan9624 Since the FM antenna is so small and discrete, I just decided to give it the best exposure it could have. So did not consider mounting it the same way as the GPS antenna. It does work exceptionally well where it is and isn't really even noticeable. And thanks if you use my links! I'll toast you with the beverage I'll be able to buy! lol
You are the man bro! Learned a lot from your stereo upgrade video and now perfect timing that you upload a spark plug tutorial. Thank you sir
Cool! I plan to keep adding videos as do different things to maintain these Accords.
I have a question on the camera installation. The long video cable has the yellow male plug and a short red wire on both ends. On the end that get plugged into the backup camera connection in the head unit, do I do anything with the short red wire on that end? I know I will splice into power on the end with the camera, but not sure about the end behind the head unit.
It connects to the ‘back’ wire on the head unit. I show this in the video.
Actually I see you commented on my second video. My bad…. If you go to the initial video I made of the installation (linked in the description) you will find it. I explain what to do with the other end of the cable in that one. Thx
I went back a found the simple step I skipped. I had also hooked the yellow camera cable into the wrong jack. I now have everything wired correctly and tested and working! Thank you for the great videos. All that’s left is the final hookup of the camera to the reverse light and drilling through the truck lid.
Great to hear! I also made the mistake of connecting to the wrong yellow jack the first time too. Got in too big of a hurry….
I’m glad I tested the camera per your instructions. The camera worked when tested, but not when installed. Now I know the problem is in the back and I can find that and fix it. I think it’ll be the connection to the light as the wires were blue and black and I may need to just switch which one I think is ground.
Are you able to post a vid on fixing the radio control lights? You said it was a separate issue
To fix the radio lights you need to dissemble the radio itself and either re-solder or replace certain resistors which are involved in the lighting circuit. Fortunately I have not had to do this yet, but have seen it explained on some forums. Search around and I am sure you will find them. I haven’t seen any videos, just written material, some with pictures.
Thanks for the video - I have a similar problem now that others did and trying to figure it out - My nighttime head unit lights, console lights and steering wheel lights are still out months after doing this upgrade. I reordered another unit and still have the problem still and its very upsetting for me at night. What size fuze are you using and where was the problem at specifically? Someone else mentioned a splice? My video here: ua-cam.com/video/xWTLZFJRnvs/v-deo.html Thanks again @iowaBuckeye
I see you also responded below to a comment where someone else had the same type of issue with lights. Did you look at his suggestions? Did you replace 'fuse 6' after installing the 2nd unit? The commenter also later stated he did not buy from the link I posted but rather from a different seller. It seems other sellers have more wiring harnesses issues. If not this seller, I suggest returning the one you have to them, replace 'fuse 6', and buy from the seller I have linked. Both units I installed had no issues. If you did buy from the seller I linked, look at the wiring harnesses and see if any wires look out of place/crossed or shorted. I have copied the other comment here so you don't need to dig for it. Good luck! ------------------------- Thank you for the video. It helped me alot. But unfortunately after setting every thing up the back lights of the steering wheel and central console and radio did not work at night. And passenger side fuse 6 kept popping when i change it. I read a comment from someone on your video about connecting A13 to A12 wire but i searched alot and did not find that in the diagram of honda radio wiring. I don't have much expertise in car Electricity. But i found the solution to the problem. There is actually a faulty connection in the harness. They conncted A13 to A1 wires together and to the headunit. I tried to disconnect them. Connected A13 to A13 and A1 to A1 with the headunit to A1. Then i changed the fuse. It actualy worked. It seems like they use that same harnesses in different types of these after market headunits because it is a common problem --------------------------
So I installed this head unit and I can’t get aux to work properly turned up volume on phone and head unit and all I get is buzzing
My first guess would be you connected the wrong red/white RCA cables coming from the head. You need to connect to the ones labeled ‘out’. As the new head is outputting the signal. If you connected to the ‘ins’ then you get nothing. If using the ‘simple’ cable, there is only one set of red/white connectors. Let me know if that could be it?? Thx
So my driver climate control light works on occasion and I want to change it. Just for assurance; the part number in your description is the light bulb for the climate control light?
They are bulb part numbers
Can’t thank you enough for these videos. Excellent amount of detail, and gives me the confidence to take of these maintenance items on my own. THANK YOU SIR!
It always pleases me when folks let me know my videos are helpful. I try to keep them to the point, but also try and foresee/address any questions folks may have. Even with the easiest of DIY things, it is always nice to see someone else do it first! THX
I installed one yesterday and now my headlights aren’t working properly, my doors won’t lock or unlock. And my volume on my steering wheel won’t work and on the dash I have no indication that my lights are on when I flip the switch. Idk what’s going on. I have sound and everything. It’s just now I have other problems
Did you install the exact unit that I have linked in the description? Or a similar unit from a different seller? There are many that look the same.
@ it’s different. Mine is off of eBay. But it looks exactly the same
Not sure. I know some other sellers seem to have more issues with their wiring harnesses. You can reach out to them and see? Or return it and get this one. Both units I installed had no issues.
May be weird question but how do I connect my phone to this new toy????
Through Bluetooth. There is an option on the screen for it.
@iowabuckeye awesome! Can you send me links for the antenna, USB ports and camera holders you installed??? I'm loving this new set up and will be getting one for my in laws! Great videos THANK YOU!
Great! Links for everything I purchased are in the videos’s description.
Im not speack inglish but you luock veary Easy Thanks 🙏
Thank you!
Podrian compartir los links de compra de la pantalla y de los accesorios por favor?
The links are in the video’s description.
I want to get rid of the second screen. Move AC information directly on the head unit through CANBUS integration and getting rid of factory radio. Do you see this as possible?
I doubt that is possible as the controls/buttons for climate control are not part of the radio harness.
When you're using the Bluetooth feature do you have to have the radio in AUX Mode?
Yes. The output of the new unit is fed into the AUX input of the original radio. So the factory radio needs to be set to AUX.
Where can I get all that and someone to install
Links to order all items are in the video’s description. It is a DIY install, so not sure who you may find to do it.
This radio won't work with Samsung phones. That sucks
Correct - it states that within one of the bullets on the product page. I wonder what type of proprietary interface Samsung has that makes it incompatible???
@iowabuckeye don't know, but i need a samsung compatible one
heard this today for the first and a doe warning call. never was able to get a shot but it was awesome to witness
Been seeing reviews on Amazon saying issues with sound quality and functionality. How is it doing for you a couple of months after installation (additions like usb ports and back up camera as well)?
It’s been about 3 months now, and both units (in our 2008 and 2012) are still working just fine. This includes the backup camera. I believe most initial issues are installation related, such as connecting the wrong audio cable, poor connection for the backup camera wiring, etc. Aside from charging phones, we haven’t used the USB connectors since installing as we use Bluetooth/CarPlay. We have been happy with them.
@ you’re the man! Thanks for the reply and information. I have everything in my cart ready to purchase. Great video too!
Good luck if you proceed! Reach out again if you have questions with the install.
I don’t have the plug that plugs into the old display I need help
Did you buy this exact unit? If so, just reach out to the seller and I am sure they will send you one if it was left out of the box.
@ I did I’ve been working on it for hours I’m just now putting everything back angrily
Did you buy this exact unit or a similar unit from a different seller? The seller I linked in includes the cable for the old display.
Looking to do this with my 2011 ex-l coupe. It has the built in amp and rear deck subwoofer. Does this retain the use of those? I'm happy with the sound quality and volume of the oem setup as well as the deck subwoofer but would like to update to something android capable. Edit: think I answered my own question, so basically this runs through the existing oem radio's aux input and you switch the car's radio to aux to use it. So all the existing factory amp and sub works like you're just using your original radio with an aux cable?
Yes sir! You are correct.
I bought this and have been working on it. The breakout cable they sent is just like yours, 20 pin on both ends (I stopped the video and counted), but our 2011 Honda has a 24 pin so I cannot get sound out of the thing unless I plug in the provided AUX cable into the AUX jack in the console compartment. Do you know if they might have a 24 pin breakout cable? I think I will contact them to see. If you know anymore that would help me I would appreciate it. Your videos are good and show things well/.
So if I understand correctly your radio has a 24 pin connector instead of a 20, so the breakout cable won’t even plug in? Both our 2008 and 2012 were the same, so wonder what Honda did in 2011? Our 2008 just has an AUX input in the armrest, but our 2012 has both AUX and USB in the armrest. I would try contacting the seller, but they may not be aware of the issue.
Thanks for getting back to me. I started looking in the service manual for the car and it appears the different hook ups are for different audio setups. Premium audio or not and 6 CD changer or 1. These have different connections. The one like yours is the premium audio with the 20 pin connector and has tapped into the AUX connections with the breakout cable. It needs to get the audio from the head unit to the cars speakers and so they use the AUX. Our car does not have the premium audio and those same AUX wires are on a 12 pin connector. The 24 pin is for something else. I could have spliced in the phono jacks into the wires on the 12 pin harness but instead drilled a half inch hole at bottom of center console and used the AUX cable provided running under gear shifter and up behind to head unit and all is well. Everything seems to work just fine thanks to your detail and good video. I would have had trouble without your help. Thanks.
@@MotoFelipe Thank you for the follow-up. Now I'll be able to help others if they have the same issue. I'm glad you found my video helpful.
I’m also having this issue. Realize now that I have a 24 pin aux setup. I’m not technologically adept as you two, so what are my options? The android display still needs this adapter to function properly, right?
You can just not use the cable that breaks out the AUX port out. Rather just plug the original connector back in. Then for the audio, use the 'long AUX cable' that I did not use. Plug the one end into the AUX port in your armrest, and the other end (red/white audio connectors) into the red/white 'outs' coming from the new head. You'll need to drill a small hole in the bottom of your armrest compartment to feed it through. And if you get 'buzzing' when in AUX mode, then just google 'AUX ground loop isolator'. The are cheap and should eliminate the buzzing. Hope that helps.
Hello help me, the climate control backlight does not work (only the first three buttons work) and the radio does not light up, the fuses are goals, what can it be? Honda Accord 2009
This video will help with the climate control lights. You will have to seek out other resources for the radio lights.
@ Ok, thank you, and if I completely turn off the climate control and the radio, will I need the code for the radio later?
@@МиколаГонтарук-ж5х Yes. The code is needed when the radio is disconnected from the car's battery. You might find it written down in your owner's manual or possibly on a sticker in your glove box. Else you can contact a Honda dealership with your VIN and they can provide it to you. You will need your code at some point when it is time to replace your battery.
Can i replace the stock navigation screen with this? I have the exl nav model with the bukt in screen id like to upgrade but not sure if it fits exl
No this particular unit will not work with the navigation version Accords.
Great job buddy! I always watch a video before the project to find unexpected issues.... This was perfect. Easy to follow video without the unnecessary BS. Keep up the good work.
Yea I try and stick to the point!!! Glad you found it helpful.
Nice job. Longer it sits the harder the gelciat gets.
Agree. Best to let it sit for several days!
Hey I bought a similar unit, but I didn’t reinstall the legacy display at the lower part. Now none of the dashboard lights (AC and Radio) are working. Do you think it’s because I didn’t reconnect the legacy display?
I don’t think that is your issue. Read some of the other comments. Others who have bought similar units have had the same lighting problem and found issues with their supplied wiring harness. Read those comments and it may help you.
THANK YOU!! I was so nervous about installing because every video I’ve watched overcomplicated the process. This was so easy to follow.
Glad the video was helpful!
My radio won't turn on. The display and touchscreen work but radio acts like it has no power
Your original radio? Or the radio receiver in the new unit?
If you have Iphone, did you have any issues with the iPhone recognizing the usb cable? My daughter's phone will not recognize it but my android phone will.
We have iPhones. We only used a cable the first time we connected my daughter’s phone and had no issues with using a cable. But since then, and with any other persons iPhone, we just connect through Z-link/bluetooth.
@@iowabuckeye, thanks for the response. I'm not sure what is going on. I was able to connect to carplay wirelessly so hopefully it won't be a huge issue.
Thank you for the video, the install was so easy in my accord because of you
Awesome!
Do the steering wheel controls still work after installing the new unit?
Yes, they still work. They of course do not control the apps on the new head, but their original functions still work.
Everything works, but the audio
Is the volume up on the new head? It has separate volume controls. Is your OEM stereo set to AUX? Did you use the ‘complicated’ or ‘simple’ power cable? If the ‘complicated’ one, you may have plugged into the incorrect red/white audio connector. Does your OEM FM audio still work?
@@iowabuckeye mine only came with the complicated harness and I have the aux wires piling in to the ins not the outs mine also had two for each but one male for white and res
The new unit is the one 'outputting' the signal. So the breakout cable needs plugged into the 'outs' on new unit's wiring harness.
@ thank you it’s working ✊🏼
Awesome! Glad I could help.
I’m currently looking for Apple car play for my car it’s a Acura tsx, which is the same as an accord would you know if it’ll work on it ?
I’m not sure. Google some Acura CarPlay installs for your car’s year to see if it is the same. I’d assume it is probably close.
Ey great video. Do you know how can I make the steering wheel buttons to work with the android radio? Mine doesn't seem to recognize the buttons no matter what I do
What are you wanting the buttons to do? I can still control volume and source with the steering wheel buttons. If you are wanting to be able to control an app (like skip to next song through Spotify) I do not think that type of integration is even possible.
For some reason I’m still not getting any sound. I tried the two different harnesses they sent, (one being a more complex one with sub rca cables and things like that. I tried both and still no sound. Not even sound when I connect it to Bluetooth. Any suggestions?
Did you re-enter the security code into the original car stereo? Is the volume turned up on the new unit too as it has a separate volume control? Are you at least getting sound through the original FM car receiver?
@@iowabuckeye I am not lol and I typed in the code
this is crazy! never heard a snort wheeze that long, or without the wheeze? or is it without the snort? lol
Is there any way to upgrade to Android Auto/Apple Carplay and NOT keep the original Honda radio? It would be nice if it could completely replace the unit.
Not sure. The center unit contains more than just the radio. It has the vents, environmental controls. etc. I don't think I have seen one for this generation Honda.
Hey brother question so i installed the unit and one plug from the unit dont plug to nothing of mine which was the plug for the Aux cable so i just ran my Aux wire and connected to my original so i have sound and everything the only issue is that my rear camera not working i just wired it same way as you did
I assume you watched my second video for the rear camera install? If so, did you do the test at the car's battery like I suggested at the start of that video? If you did and things were working, then I assume one of your connections at the rear of the car is not making good contact. If you used the same type of crimp connectors I did at the rear, you may need to check them. When I did the install on our 2012 at first I did not get a signal when in reverse. I then went and squeezed the crimp connectors at the rear a bit harder and they made contact and it worked. The wires can also get sideways in the crimp connectors if not careful and not make contact at all. If you didn't do the test at the battery and are sure your rear connections are solid, you will need to pull the head out and check the front connections. The first time I did it I plugged the camera cable into the wrong video input (yellow) to the new radio..... Good luck. Let me know if you figure it out or have more questions.

Yeah I’m not getting any sound either so do I have to plug in a aux from my center console into the new radio? Or do I use that cable at 9:23
Did you use the cable at 9:23? If so you do not need to use an aux cable from your center console.
I had the same unit in my Amazon cart. After watching your video. I cleared my cart and made the purchases (I added all your recommended accessories) using your links. You deserve some kudos and compensation for such a great video. Can’t wait to install in my 2012 Accord V6 Sedan. Gonna make my car awesome again!
Well thank you very much! Good luck with your install. Both units I installed are still working just fine!!
Im curious if this type of unit needs the original head unit to work fine. My wife's Accord has a short in the factory unit that makes the radio/speakers pop and go silent and stop working. Moat things online say to replace rhe head unit but im wondefing if i need a new unit that replaces the entire console unit in the middle of the console or if a unit like this will work and actually bypass the amp hardware in the factory headunit(where the short is presumably located.) Any insights would help
I guess I can't say for sure as it would depend on just what is actually faulty in the original unit. Have you ever tired connecting your phone through a Bluetooth receiver to the aux port and streaming? If so and you still have the issue, then a unit such as this will not correct it as it just feeds into the original stereo's aux port. But if it does correct it, then I would proceed with an install (with FM antenna) versus buying a new 'factory' unit. This is the BT receiver we were using before doing the install. It worked just fine. amzn.to/4fet9B1
I’m confused about something & I can’t find an answer. Does this unit have an amplifier in it or does it just use the AUX input on the stereo & use the stock radio’s amplifier?
The unit connects to the AUX input on the original stereo. It does this though a break-out cable connected behind the radio (and not the AUX port in the armrest). I hope that answers your question. Thx
@@iowabuckeye You totally answered my question. Thank you!
