Finishing the New No Dig Bed with Weeding and Beautiful Mulch
Переглядів 1 тис.9 годин тому
Without mulch, weed seeds germinate so much easier in our garden beds! I’m finally getting to finish off this little no dig bed that we installed recently, with some weeding and adding in the much needed mulch. It’s a perfect finishing touch that this bed really needed! #zone8b #oregongarden #pnwgardening #gardening #nodig #nodiggardening #gardenmaintenance #mulch #mulching #oregongarden

Your gardens look wonderful, as usual Lacey. I love that beautiful pale blue hydrangea at the beginning of the tour; I would definitely take cuttings of that one and spread it around! I wonder if the Lemony Lace elderberry could go under the privet where the peony is? Would it get too much sun there? The peony might be happy in the bed where the burning bush is. Peonies are pretty drought tolerant once they are established. You could also add epimedium and wild ginger- especially ginger canadensis- to your dry shade areas, as well as more hellebores. They’re all pretty tough. You have a huge garden to manage, and I’m so impressed with how few weeds there are and how neat it all looks. You have obviously worked very hard on it, and it shows.😊

I love the black mulch! I have used it in my own gardens before, and I love how it makes the plants pop. It does eventually fade, as they all do, but it’s beautiful for a year or two. Will you cut in a trench on the backside of this bed? Otherwise, I think the grass will keep creeping in, in spite of the mulch. Is there anything worse than grass getting into a groundcover or a rose? *shudders* Anyway, your garden looks even better now, and I’m looking forward to your next project.

Seeing one of my "regular" nurseries through someone else's eyes is always good. Sometimes we forget how lucky we are. I've shopped at Farmington for three different gardens over... 30 years, which brings me to my hint for your more mature viewers: WEDNESDAY is SENIOR DISCOUNT DAY (55+, I believe). Their prices use to be on the lower end but I agree with you that they're a bit high now, so I only shop on Wednesdays. I find when I'm at a "far away" nursery, I'm much more impulsive because I can't just pop back in. You were good at taking your time and thinking things through. I didn't see it on the tables in your video but an agastache I found there in the past (and at Wilco just recently) is PW Queen Bee Nectarine and I have absolutely LOVED it. It's been blooming all summer. And checkout out the CORAL Knock Out rose. I don't see it as often as the pink and red but it's a lovely one.
