To me, this waza feels like Tai-otoshi with out extending the leg. I'm very passive and most of the time I rarely initiate attacks first in randori. I find uki otoshi to be very fitting for my personality.
Awesome!
It Is just the contrary....
Great content!!
Thank you for watching! This is a passion project we are proud of.
Always helpful! Thankyou
Thanks for watching!

I'm think that can be classified as ozae-sumi- otoshi( the corner way), and uki-sumi-otoshi( lateral way). 01:10, grabbing the leg, way that one, it',s not classificaed like kukichi-taoshi ?
Good day sir. Just wanted say thank you for sharing and that I'll be checking out your techniques aplenty. I am a BJJ instructor and since our judo black belt had to move, I'm making the best of stand-up techniques with my white-belt knowledge level. I appreciate your taking the time to share what should be paid training for free here on YT. Thanks again.
You are so welcome! We love hearing that these videos are useful. This is a passion project, we've committed to never monetizing the channel or anything like that.
Nice. I hurt a guy's big toe doing tai otoshi yesterday. Cant tell if it was my fault or his. But anyway i'm a bjj guy trying to get better at judo and these vids are helping so thank you.
Toe otoshi strikes again! Thank you for watching, we're glad these videos are helping people. Please share so Riki sensei's teachings can help even more people, we're never going to monetize the channel or anything like that.
Fabulous, as always.
Thanks mate!
The quality and efficiency of these videos is just astounding
Thanks mate. A pillar of this project is making videos that don't waste anyone's time.
Thank you Sensei. Good to have you back!
Thanks for watching!
@@RikiDojoUSA it's a pleasure. One of the best judo channels on UA-cam. 🙏🥋
Another amazing point of view ... in my dojo i always talk how perfect Yoko Guruma is for conter attack and i agree sacrifice techniques dont sound cool... thanks again another perfect video ..... hugs from Brazil
Thank you for saying so!
I love your descriptions of a throw. Thank you for sharing your instruction to all of us
You are very welcome!
Excellent video. I have practiced many years of judo but it's always a delight to see a technique that I thought I had a good grasp on be explained so well that it has deepened my understanding of it. The focus on the spinning for this technique makes a lot of sense and I assume makes it a much more effective throw!
Thank you for saying so!
Great video and a devastating throw! It’s always good to get the history of the application of the waza!! Many forget about the kuzushi and you explained it beautifully! The kumikata explanation is extremely helpful as well!!!
Having great demos definitely helps!
I've realized that when I check my UA-cam notifications for new videos, in reality I'm checking to see if you or Shinji Watanabe-sensei has uploaded something new. Thank you, it is great as always!
High praise! We're glad we can contribute something valuable to the judo community with these videos.
Excellent footage and explanation. Thank you for this lesson, Sensei.
Thank you for watching!
So delighted to have you back!!! As curious coincidence would have it, I am presently teaching my students 3 sutemi-waza: uki-waza, yoko wakare, and yoko guruma. So this video is wonderfully timely. I have missed the battlefield application lessons; thank you for including one with this lesson. I am guessing that this technique was originally used by and against samurai in full armor. Domo arigatou!🥋😊🙏
Thanks so much Jun! We love hearing that!
I wish I went here instead of Desert Judo in Az. Awesome video
I'm sure Riki sensei would take you! Thanks for watching.
Very good break down
Thanks for watching!
Insightful, deep, functional and funny. I think I found my new favourite judo channel.
We appreciate hearing that greatly, thank you for watching!
Vedin torstaina kosoto garia, aluksi pitkään vain käsillä. Vasemmalla suoraan alas kohti tatami, kauluskäsi alas takaviistoon.
Great channel
Thank you! Please share so we can help Riki sensei's teachings reach more people.
I love the history lessons! <3
Thanks for watching!
This channel is amazing! Thank you so much. I was tought competitive judo for 12 years. So, besides learning the names and the basics of the techniques, most of it was through intuition and randori. Now that I am trying to teach my knowledge to other students at my university, this is extremely helpful and insightful. I learn much about the actual principles of each technique now which makes it so much easier to explain and teach.
Thank you so much for saying so, we really love hearing that! That is one of the reasons why we felt compelled to make this channel.
"Scan, identify, predict, decide, execute." The gems this man leaves behind are insane.
Riki sensei is a big time SIPDE enthusiast!
"Whatever way you do it, if it works, it's a good waza." Take that one to the bank!
Absolutely!
Man, this is an amazing video. Thank you

Thank you, that's why we had to start filming his classes. Please share so more judoka can get the same benefit!
Arigato Sensei ! Just found your channel and I’m so glad that there are still teachers who adhere to the real spirit of Judo unburdened from IJF rules . Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Thank you so much for watching! Please share so we can help Riki sensei's teachings reach more people.

Grrreat detail…
Thank you very much!
Thank you for such amazing instruction in the full aspects of judo and martial art.
That is why we had to start recording Riki sensei's classes, this information must be preserved. We appreciate you watching and commenting!
I love it!!
Thanks for watching!
What an interesting technique.
Hopefully we'll see more of it!
Crack burns!! 😂
So I see this done a lot in IJF competitions and it dawned on me they for ease of understanding they’re just calling it O’Soto Gari, but that drives me crazy. Call it what it is!
It's unfortunate that more judoka don't care about the nomenclature, it's so important.
One of the best judo lessons I have seen. Sensei explains all the details in a clear and excellent way. Regards from Madrid (Spain). 🥋✌
Mil gracias por decirlo!
Thank you
You are very welcome!
Question for Sensei: my teacher is a young Olympian and he performs Tai-Otoshi with the leg going directly to the side, and not back (as I commented earlier on the similarity of Zinkuchadachi stance). I have seen a Japanese olympian (retired) perform this with the leg going back as you teach it here. I like the step back more because it is like a wedge that drives the leg into a position of immobility. Just a curiosity on my part.
@@OldJudoGuy The leg going directly to the side is susceptible to injury of the ACL when it fails. Tai Otoshi is a Tewaza, the leg going back helps the hands with added power to the Kuzushi.
ANTON GEESINK DID IT BEST !
So true!
UN CAMPEON SE HACE
His such a great teacher and has a lot of wisdom watching from Zambia in 2024

Is Rikki talking about Tsuruo Fukushima that promoted him to Shodan? Just got curious to look him up on Google and I was not sure on the proper spelling.
