    If you like shooshy, fizzy, cold, raspy, ratterly gain, thin, cheap sounding IR's you'll love the Pod Express. I sent it back after 2 weeks of trying to get some decent tones out of it. The cleans were OK but the moment you added any gain, no, just cheap sounding. I was conned as were many others I suspect.

    Gorgeous guitar. These were on my buy short-list. Reading through the comments I see others have had issues with QC as well. Disappointing and unacceptable at this price-point. The inlay rout in the 1st fret looks sloppy too. Lots of filler.

    For me, its both! How nice that since this video was published we now have the editor/librarian. I use that all the time, although Roland does need to work on it a little more. It can be a little buggy at times and crash. The crashing is more with the librarian. Editing synth tones has been stable for me. There is also another gap where the new native JPX engine does not appear to have editor or model in Zenology. I do have to connect up the hardware and either use the editor or front panel. I can not use my DAW and then export patches for the Jupiter-X or Juno-X native synth models. I do not see ever parting with my Jupiter-X!

    Active pickups for metal music like the EMGs 81/85 etc are not just for the sound but for the response on your hands. For example it's not easy to play a song like Master of puppets downpicking all the time for almost 8 minutes with PAFs no matter how much distortion you put in front. With active pickups the response on your right hand feels smoother, easier and faster. If we are at a gig and I use passive pickups, I would rather not play a song such as Master of Puppets cause it's tiring. On the other hand, songs like ''Crazy Train'' or ''Bark at the Moon'' I prefer passive pickups cause the output of active pickups on these riffs is too much if you play those riffs too agressively. I think for modern metal or thrash, active pickups are a better option though

    Most people always banging on about VSTs in a box never make music. It's some kind of cope to constantly complain and bring people down instead of what they should be doing, which is making music. But since they are useless at that, here we are. 🤷‍♂️😂

    *What I will say as someone with a scientific, college education in electronics/electrical engineering while also being a shred and sweep guy with 30 years of technical trades experience, is what doesn't matter is if you paid $150 for your hunbucker rather than $8.* These are scalar, A.C. generators and ultra simple and cheap to build regardless of what every brand claims. The same is true of guitar speakers which are literally using 100 year old outdated construction techniques where they build a Celestion Greenback for maybe $15 and it sells for $180. *It's not my opinion, it's a scientific fact and I can both design and build these two machines by hand and they will be of sublime quality.* So, it's not irrelevant but it's ultimately a product people are scammed on and pay insane amounts of money for. *I design and build Class-A active circuits for each guitar I own and if the pickups are noise free, I can take literally anything and get any sound out of it as well as texture.* Making a humbucker sound like a single coil is a really simple RC filter scheme and onward this pattern goes as you want particular things such as making a rosewood fingerboard sound exactly like a maple one. *I'm in a highly unique position though and so the general public has to go with their instincts, word of mouth and products they can test in the store.* In the grand scheme of things, a pickup is one of the component that matters most of all and the same is true of speakers!!! lol *I don't mean to blow off the reality of their importance but the cost to manufacture is sickeningly low.* Oxygen free copper with an enamel coating, ferrite or alnico magnets, plastic bobbins, stainless nickel-steel pole pieces? *I'm 46 and I cant ell you FOR FACT, until I was the person posting on countless forums and videos that the component is called a BOBBIN, absolutely no one anywhere used this regard and 20 years later, I've managed to get just about everyone to use it!* This is unfortunately what I am dealing with as an engineer and inventor when I interact with other guitar addicts. *It's a very difficult subject to reach people on when they have a 412 cabinet they paid $1200 for and the one I built for literally $200 sounds better than theirs when all 4 of my speakers cost literally $100 for the entire set!* The same goes with amps and what I know scientifically. Getting tubes to sound like solid-state and solid-state to sound 100% like valve distoriton is a really easy process. *They don't do it because they ultimately make far more money by providing 3 active technologies with 3 distinct natures of sound and in that, it's why most serious guitarists own quite a few machines from all 3 branches of the tree.* I'm working on my own company and have a transistor based distortion and it sounds identical to a couple of 12AX7's being overdriven. Glitter and fizz instead of rasp and snarl. *When all is said and done, most of us as lead players like a combination of the 2 sounds and use a lot of solid-state gain whether analog or digital fed into our tube amps to have the best of both worlds. *I have well over a dozen amps and off the top of my head, I think I have 8 heads and 7 or 8 halfstack cabinets, and then easily a half dozen combos all of elite performance even to a gear snob; people I loath.* i DO NOT want to hear equipment mythology considering the education I worked so hard for in quite literally the most advanced field of science on earth and worked equally as hard to be at a globally elite level for shredding and sweeping as well as a dozen other styles of music. In the end, anyone saying speakers and pickups don't matter when we eliminate price from the conversation is foolish if not outright arrogant. *They're literally 2 of the most important factors but relative to this, so are MATERIALS.* That's another argument claimed by armchair rocket scientist saying it doesn't matter when in fact, it's obvious a maple fingerboard sounds nothing like a rosewood fingerboard and to get either one to sound like the other, you need active filtering designed specifically for this purpose. *In this regard, I have filters I designed that make a humbucker sound 100% identical to a single coil and vice versa.* I am just in a hugely advantageous position to design and outright invent gear I build for myself. I've literally invented a new type of passive pickup and an emitter-motor-amplifier device that will literally change the world when I release it. *Of course, I don't want arguments from big spenders or skid row desperate quality gear owners.*

      @feezy243 The 412 example is a good, but bad example. It’s good in the sense that dumbasses overpay for them. However, it’s bad in the sense that used 412s go for NOTHING lmao. If you want a really good, but inexpensive cab, get a cloth grill Peavey 412MS. I got mine for $89, it’s thick plywood all around and it came/comes stock with Celestion g12K85s. If I wanted to, I could sell them individually for more than I paid for the cab. If you research obscure gear, you can get it even cheaper than building it yourself, that’s how I got all of my vintage gear on the cheap, finding the genuinely really good stuff that never got the brand recognition it deserved.

    • @JonDeth
      @JonDeth 2 місяці тому

      @@watersnortmoment3734 I have 6 halfstack cabinets. The current uses 2 very low end Crate/SLM 12's and aftermarket 12's from Newark Electronic's house brand. It's unbelievable. I have plenty of expensive speakers in other cabinets and this thing with about $150 total put into it is phenomenal. As an electronics engineer, I'm literally a scientist with deep understanding in the quantum physics and classical mechanics of technology which gives me an advantage over other players that there's no other way to get it. Apart from this though, a lot of technical knowledge and understanding of audio equipment, materials and numerical values defining such equipment gives you more than enough to know how to select pieces that are economical and easily match a cabinet with $180 12's packed in it. When all is said and done, those speakers are using 100 year old technology and built for about $15 a piece. Nothing on this earth will get me to pay $180 when I know this to be accurate as an engineer that both designs and invents speakers and audio technology.

    Great synth for dad-music cover bands playing suburban bars on weekends - something for when reliability is paramount. If synths were cars, The Jupiter-X is a Toyota Camry; point A to point B with no fuss. Perfect. A REAL Jupiter 8 is a 1982 Nissan Skyline HR30. Pretty close to unobtanium below $28k. Reliable for it's age and glorious to experience when the imperfect discrete VCO's are bouncing off one another. But an amazing piece of history and ecstasy. (the car, and the synth)

    Roland is good at marketing and software engineering, but for me, an obsessive analog fan for 40+ years who bought my first synth at age 16 (Korg MonoPoly), there just isn't a 1-1 comparison of a VST in a box - however nostalgic it looks and even sounds - and the magic of discrete analog components and a purely analog signal path. Especially true if your signal path ends in loudspeakers and not headphones. Years ago, I had both a Juno 106 and SH101, so I'm no Roland hater. The difference is stark to me, but I'm a picky MFer. It's all about personal preference. For digital synths, I'm most excited about modeling these days, since there are truly things you can do with that tech that just aren't possible with classic analog architecture. I have an Osmose, which scratches the modeling/FM itch, sound-wise, while also opening up new avenues of expression as a player. For the raw power though, I'll stick with my Dave Smith and Bob Moog masterpieces. They just hit different in the room through big loud speakers.

    Yours were hard to tell apart. I had my buddy plug my LP with lace Firespitters straight into my Marshall, then had him plug my km-7 with SD Nazgul/Sentient in. Night and day easier to tell who was who. Maybe the complexity of your signal chain sort of smoothed out the differences? I don't know, just an idea.

    • @watersnortmoment3734

      Record it on the same cab with the mic placed at an identical location. Suddenly there is almost zero difference. The in room sound and recorded sound are completely different, in the in room sound, there’s a lot more opportunity for placebos to kick in as well. A guitar you don’t like as much will likely sound worse than one you like more, in the room, even if the pickups are identical. Legitimately, how you feel can have a massive impact on how you hear your tone in the room. Try recording it though, you’ll be shocked at how similar they are, I was, I ran a Duncan JB, Duncan Custom 5, Duncan pearly gates+, and the stock pickup in a Pacifica 112J, in person they all sound completely different, the Pacifica pickup being way too muddy. However, once I hit record and compared them, I was shocked how similar they sounded (slightly above crunch gain levels too). When I sent them to my friend, he couldn’t tell the difference at all, I believe my internal biases played into my original listening, because now, a year later, I can’t tell either on those recordings.

    I did a shootout of high output active (EMG 81) and passive (Duncan JB) with a number of different boosts into an old Marshall. I came to a similar conclusion. I could tell a little difference a slight volume and EQ difference particularly with direct into the amp or a single boost. Otherwise, it was pretty close. Different boosts (and stacked) had a noticeable difference though. Different pickups might matter more if you're going direct in to the amp...depending on the amp. Something like a VH-4 is way compressed and has no cares. On occasion, there are some amps that care a bit more what you feed it (even "high gain" amps), but I haven't found many...really only one. And it's a fairly unobtainable amp, so it probably won't matter to most.

    What is this obsession with analog sounds? Analog sounds always sound so dull and dated. I know synth snobs swear that analog is the one and only way, but I beg to differ. It just comes off like some snobbish bs someone came up with and it caught on like wildfire. There can't be that many people hell-bent determined to remain sonically stuck in the 70s and 80s.

The neck is fantastic and I’ve found that particular guitar really resonates/sustains better than any other guitar I own. I have a JB/59 combo in a couple similar Jackson’s, but they don’t sound like this. The streaked ebony fretboard looks killer and it also makes each one unique. I love that they put binding only on the headstock. Ive also never had an issue with the FR 1500. It stays in tune just fine. I absolutely love mine. I found mine on Reverb and got an incredible deal so it was hard to pass up. I’d recommend this to anyone wanting an American made guitar for metal/rock, but don’t want to go full custom shop etc.

    I've had at least a Dozen USA Jacksons. Most were decent, top tier. some were not. I saw my first USA Jackson RR in 1986, when they were all custom shop. Of course i was drooling over it. The dude who owned it had no problem stating the horrors of getting it built back then. I mean it 3was the 80's and it was all new, but i seen the same horror stories for 40 years. Too many to count. But Yes, if you get a good one, it's royalty. My best ones were actually probably not exactly "perfect" though. They always felt a bit home brew, and yeah i had ones with flaws that were net positives imo. If you want absolute 90% out of 100 perfection ESP Japan. Best in the world. Fit finish, never seen a more "perfect" guitar in every detail. But yeah, homebrew, feels like human hands were in it, does hold charm. I lovingly reference a 90's Poplar RR1 i had, where the binding was hard rolled, where most are supposed to be hard angles, this one had the binding at a steep angle towards the fretboard, that is was one of the most comfortable guitars i ever put hands on. And pretty much the one i wish i never let go of in the entire GAS cloud of the last 40 years. Also that looks like a good specimen. Nice solid dark tight grain fb, great selection of shells for the sharkies. 👍
