    I was born in RAFH Wegberg. Lived in the area for 4 years and then moved back in the early 2000s during my teens. It was the best time to be alive. Great friends. Great experiences. I worked on JHQ until the Summer of 2013, the vast majority of DELs got laid off and the civvies & soldiers were in the middle of moving to Bielefeld. I miss JHQ and BFG dearly.

    There will always be countless “what a waste” comments for obvious reasons. An amazing site, enjoyed during a moment in time for those lucky enough to experience it - far more than any posting. However, seeing nature regain it’s territory once more is no bad thing in my eyes - we loaned it & she is is slowly reminding us that we are tenants for a short while.

    I ended NS there in 1955/56 and it really makes me weep watching the video. Having previously been in 100 yr old Crimean barracks in Aldershot with zero facilities it was like a dream, We were told on arrival that the intention was that when we were finished with the place it would be used as a hospital by the German govt, I think by letting it go and rot
    they are trying to tell us something.

      @@EZURBEX I was 17 at the time but usually managed to blag my way into the Junior Ranks Club although I can't remember its precise location. There was also a sort of youth club with live bands to the south west of the Big House. There were also various officers' messes which I believe were separated between Army and RAF personnel.

    If only it had been moth balled it could have provided a safe haven for some of the Ukranian refugees. It doesn't look like the planned demolition of the south west area had started when this was filmed. I loved living there in the 70s.

    • @EZURBEX
      @EZURBEX  2 роки тому +1

      I'm pretty sure they are demolishing parts because of asbestos being used in most of the houses. They also aren't up to safety standards and such. At least from what I heard. I'm pretty sure that's why no refugees are being housed there, or that it wasn't being taken care of in the first place. Nonetheless such a shame..

    • @8888swatt
      @8888swatt 2 роки тому

      @@EZURBEX I think you're right about the housing standards. I could be wrong but the only place I can think there was asbestos was in Wegberg and also some of the garage roofs in JHQ. For sure the houses would have at least been a good temporary option for the victims of Putin's war. Thank you for sharing the videos by the way - it is really appreciated. If you are filming with your drone again it would be great to see Uxbridge Way, St George's School and the SW part before it disappears forever.
