Just an amateur herper and wave rider trying to share my hobbies
Black-tailed Rattlesnakes, Sonoran Desert Toads, Lightning and More!
Part 1 of 3 from a monsoon trip we did last July. Overall it was a pretty productive trip but unfortunately this was right after a record breaking heatwave and herp activity definitely suffered as a result of it. I hope you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching!

Kings, Kings and More Kings!!! A 44 Snake Day Where the Most Common Snake is the King!
Переглядів 3355 місяців тому
Part 2 of this insane little roadtrip we did. With temperatures a little hotter than we’d like we weren’t expecting much but would soon end up with nearly 20 snakes at the first spot alone. We were hoping for numbers on this day and luck was on our side. We ended up seeing 44 snakes with 19 of them being Cal Kings. Definitely an unforgettable day of coastal flipping that we still have yet to to...

Part 1 of a very successful two day trip from last spring where we hit the coast, mountains and desert. We found a total of 56 snakes and 10 different species as well as a few nonsnake lifers. If you thought this day was good stay tuned for part 2 which ended up being the most productive outing we’ve ever had. Hope you enjoyed the video and thank you for watching!

Last Day of our 2023 spring trip to AZ. While it wasnt the most successful trip its always a good time out in AZ. We managed to get our main target and a few other lifers along the way so I’d call it a win. Hope you enjoyed video and thanks for watching! All credit goes to Derek Hameister for the awesome photos.

Finding My Lifer Gila Monster in Southern AZ!
Переглядів 6957 місяців тому
The first of 3 videos from a quick trip to AZ last spring with Derek. After seeing no sign of them on our first trip to AZ we were awarded a gila only 30 minutes after getting out of the car. Not many snakes in this one but with 3 lifer lizards one of them being our main target it was a very satisfying day of herping. Hope you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching! All credit goes to Derek ...

Once again the early spring herping provided at a new spot. As expected we saw plenty of rattlesnakes and a couple boas but much to my surprise I found a lifer under a shirt. Ended up being a great day of herping in my book. Hope you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching!

Hiking and Herping the PCT, Campo to Scissors Crossing!
Переглядів 25910 місяців тому
Hiked a total of 85 miles in 5 days on my first backpacking trip. We went from Campo to Scissors crossing which is 77 miles but we managed to tack on a few extra here and there. We did our best to document all the herps we saw but not all were featured in the video. We saw coast patchnosed, southern pacific, coast horned lizard, fence lizard, western whiptail, granite spiny, side blotch, alliga...

29 snake day in AZ! Rattlesnakes, Garters and bird rescue!

We cut a lot of the neonate atrox we saw this day. We’d seen so many this trip we decided to cut about half of them. As for the bird we rescued it was safely dropped off at a bird rehabilitation center near Tucson and made a full recovery. Anyways thanks for watching and hope you enjoy! "he did the thing was crazy"🤣
Enjoyed this! Lived in Big Bear from 1996-2000. Great job!
Lizard:nope don't whact me i'm scared😂
That Gilberts skink was as big as a alligator lizard!
Jesus is white, not green :v
Awesome video. I live in San Diego as well. What month was this?
where was that rosy boa near yarnell AZ?
Hey, I’m getting into herping and I’m trying to find good snake spots around my area. Do you have any advice on finding flip spots? Thanks
Excellent!
That first blacktail was so perfect.
I would love to meet you
Was this during summer 2023?
Yup, July 2023
love Kingsnakes
Dimetrodon
THAT IS A DINOSAUR! THAT IS A DRAGON!
Omg my favorite lizard doing a backflip into a rock is it Christmas already? 😮❤
Heck yeah boys so awesome
“Whatever 31 plus4 is”😅😂😂
Sometimes the snakes are so good you forget how to math 😂
Jesus that was more kings than ive seen in one field herping video ever. So many variants too. The gophers and rings were definitely nice. And especially the night snake and glossy. Thanks for the king of kings video. Catch you on the flip-side Richard from Arkansas
Thank you, that was the most kings/snakes Ive ever gotten in one trip! I hope to top it one day, came close in January somehow but haven’t had much luck flipping the coast since. One day ill pull it off but all these board lines are far from me and it gets boring seeing the same stuff so Ive been doing more exploring elsewhere. Haven’t been getting crazy numbers but definitely have had a few very fun days im looking forward to sharing!
@@surfingwithsnakes Sounds good to me. I can't wait to see what kind of video you get/got to share on here. I'll be on the look out. Catch you on the flip-side. Richard from Arkansas
Isn't it boring flipping the same couple three species? Got more diversity here in Nebraska lmao
Yeah gets boring after a while, at the moment coastal flipping is probably my least favorite. It can produce great numbers and sometimes good diversity too but it gets old for sure
Currently all my videos are from 2023 which is mostly stuff like this but this year I’ve been branching out a lot more and looking for a lot of new things in new places!
Good stuff!
Thanks Lou! 🙏
Is that Big Bear Lake?
Sorry but I can’t disclose any information about locations on here. I gotta give the critters some privacy so if you know you know 🤷♂️
@@surfingwithsnakes looks like Big Bear Lake.

Good stuff! I think the wind gives the spot away. LOL. Haven't been there in awhile. Wish I was with you all! Lou B
Thanks Lou, it was an awesome time! Tried my best not to give away the spot but it’s not too hard to recognize if you’ve been there before. If you’ve got the time you’re more than welcome to join us for some outings this spring 🤙
@@surfingwithsnakes I would look forward to it.
FLIP FLOPS 👀
Safety-flipflops you know..
Do not underestimate the safety-flipflops, when combined with the safety-socks they can be nearly impenetrable to a rattlesnake (Please do not try this at home)
Is "herping" the act of lifers spreading herpes
That gopher was massive. Congrats on that.
Thanks Lou, it was kind of a slow trip but we were stoked on that big beautiful gopher.
Was the first snake you got hands on a whip snake?
Good eye that’s exactly what it was, Sonoran Whipsnake (Masticophis bilineatus)
Such pristine habitat with the wash carpet and trash bags
It really is a thing of beauty 🥹
i used to do this as a kid in the desert in Idaho...i miss lizard hunting!
Spring is almost here, it’s never too late to get back that! Check out iNaturalist and see what species are in your area!
Damn, that looked like a lot of fun. Yall know how to throw down. Those chicken sandwiches looked FIRE! I appreciate you taking the time to upload the content. Catch you on the flip-side. Richard from Arkansas
Thank you, I really appreciate the support. We had a damn good time out there!
How much AZ footage is there?
Enough
can you flip the cow?
I have yet to try but I might have to attempt it in a future video
“He was about to raid your quail eggs” 💀💀💀💀💀💀 LMAOOOO
That snake was dangerously close to his quail eggs but fortunately for him they lived to see another day..
Jesus Christ animal why did they named that like that
Holy shit so cool ❤🎉
31:52 😂😂😂 I can't wait to see you guys in the field and exchange some jokes lol
That right bud, keep talking tough. Y’all can’t take a joke but if you wanna make threats you better be able to take a punch.
@surfingwithsnakes you guys keep running your mouth, we dont even mention you at all so yea we will see you at your favorite piles that you destroyed.
Thomas, I straight helped you guys find Zs and showed you spots. I asked you guys not to share the spots cause they weren’t mine and you did anyways. All I did was stop going out with you guys and you all got butt hurt. Joking about Indian reservations is just ignorant and pathetic. Our people have lost everything for you to even have what you have and now you want to act as if it’s funny that I stand up against people who talk about trespassing on reservations. Just not cool. You guys can just leave it alone and move on. No need to be disrespectful to me personally. If you want to go that other route I’m happy to oblige.
Look man, I don’t even want this beef. Honestly that’s my bad for offending y’all and I apologize for that. This was a video from last year made in a different time and I don’t intend to be making any such comments in the future. The only thing that had me even a little heated is the “I cant wait to see you guys in the field” comment. I don’t take stuff like that lightly but still I shouldn’t have responded back with hostility and that’s my bad too. Let’s just squash this and try to let 2024 be a peaceful and drama free year of herping ✌️
I appreciate that and you showing growth with your mindset. No beef here as long as everyone stops with the Rez jokes, it’s serious to all Natives. I’m sure you can understand why we got heated after hearing about the comment in the video too. Anyways, we can all move on. Cheers bro.
Where is this at brotha
That thing looks like a fantasy dragon💀💀💀
Great stuff, would love to see a Gila someday.

I wish I could see that
Is this near San Diego?
No It's A Spinosaurus
Now that was a massive Aligator Lizard. Yeah your shirt is ruined. I could almost smell what he did to you!
It was definitely a monster and yeah unfortunately it took a monster dump on my shirt too 😂
A lot of nice finds! What is up with all the Shovel Nose Snakes? They are very hard for me to find where i live. I get lucky once in a while and find one road cruising.
I didn’t know this before hand but apparently they are stupid common to flip in the right habitat in spring. It was definitely a big surprise for me flipping so many of them
Nice finds on the Red Diamonds. That 1st Boa was the healthiest one i have ever seen!
I was stoked to get a nice healthy one like that as my first of the year
