Couldn't find San Marzano or Roma III on Burpee
I looked on the Burpee website and found them. However, they offer the Heirloom Roma rather then Roma3 or 3.5. Which would be fine. There a few other types of "roma" tomatoes also. Give them a try.
This is my first year trying potatoes.
Great. It should be a rewarding experience. Just make sure you are growing the right potato in the right container. Good Luck!
@SuccessfulGardens1 Thank you so much sir. I have no clue which potato in which container, but hopefully I'll know before planting. Haha
Thank you, Gary. My grandmother loved poinsettias and I recently started buying them for my wife as an annual tradition. The plants started to become mine each year as I watched them shed then rebloom here in GA right after Christmas. I have kept them alive until Feb but had no idea I could cut them back and take care of the way you outlined to have them come back in the Fall. A friend recently told me they planted theirs here around late Feb and it began coming back each year. Perhaps we do have a warm wet enough climate. I've definitely fallen in love with these plants and I'll see if I can keep my copper- currently pink and white - variety alive per your tips! Thanks again
It's great to see that you are enjoying poinsettias as much as your grandma! Good luck with yours.
Try 42 Day Tomato sometime. Very early smaller size determinate plant. Golf Ball size fruit. Great classic tomato flavor. Will produce so many tomatoes you may have to prune some off. I have never seen a better producer. Produces under all weather conditions.
That is a great suggestion and I will definitely look into trying out that variety. I have seen it, but haven't tried it yet. Thanks for sharing!
This is a great video! I was looking for barely hot pepper to introduce kids to heat. Thanks for sharing! Do you know any heirloom ones?
Glad you found a good video for your needs. Happy growing! I would check out Baker Creek Seeds and also Seed Saver Exchange. They have the truest selection of Heirloom varieties. Make sure to read the descriptions....because they have some really hot ones Too. Good Luck!
@@SuccessfulGardens1 I will check them out! Thanks :)
Thank you so much for providing a great step by step video. I just love trying to keep mine living all year long.
Glad that it helped. I enjoy the challenge too.
You are mistaken, the carbon tomato is not the same as the black pineapple
HELP, I see whiteflies. What can I do?
Talked too much
I bought 2 in boxes this month. it says to put it in dark place for 4 to 8 weeks. water once a week for half a cup of water. until I saw a bud and a flower so I took it Out the closet. it's bt he window . what do I do next?
I water mine weekly once I bring them out of the "dark". Bud stalks usually grow before the leafs. Thats all you need to do. Once they have bloomed, cut the flower stalk off, keep watering and making sure it has plenty of light.
2:28 2:28 I've had mine in and out of the closet for the last 6+ weeks. It has started to form the blooms. Should I stop this process and leave it out? Not sure how to add a photo.
Once the color has started to break you can leave it out. Make sure it has bright light during the day. And I too wish we could add photos in the comments.
@@SuccessfulGardens1 I have her under a grow light. I have the light on a 12 hr timer. Is that too long? Thank you so much for your wonderful, informative video!!
@@ritaschiferl3615 no 12 hours is fine. Good luck and enjoy her color for a long time.
I have noticed some white flies on the plant. Could I spray it with some insecticidal soap?
Can I spray water on it? I bought 2weeks ago now getting wilt Today is Christmas I wish can keep this for while. Thank you 😊
rather than misting it, give it a good drink of water. Make sure that there is a dish on the bottom to catch any exrra water.
I have found amaryllis are throw away bulbs. I’ve done everything that has to be done to try to get them to rebloom and it never happens. All we get is foliage. So I’m done with amaryllis. In the compost bin they go.
It can be frustrating when things don't go as planned in the garden, but I understand why you're ready to move on to something else. Hopefully you still enjoy them while they are blooming.
I'm in central No. Carolina. Dips to 19 deg F. here overnight for at least 2 full weeks each winter. I leave mine out. Do nothing. they return every year. every 3 years I remove 1/2 to thin
That's great to know they can handle that kind of cold. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Thank you for your information on Amaryllis 😊
You're welcome. Glad you found it helpful.
Greetings from zone 4/5 eastern Canada! I've tried several methods, though the method I use now is hilling with dry soil, mounding with leaves and cover with styrofoam cones which have ventilating holes. I prune the roses down to fit the height of the cones and defoliate the rest of the leaves. The cones last a long time so I'm able to use them years at a time. Sometimes pots do the trick as well. With certain varieties, the winter temperatures alone are enough to kill canes almost to ground level regardless of how much winter protection used. I prefer styrofoam cones because my area gets an average of 60 hours of freezing rain on top of -32 Celsius throughout the winter, which is very hard on tender roses. This also melts the snow and causes the ground to freeze like an ice cube (posing threat to bud unions) and the entire landscape becomes a skating rink. So styrofoam cones are handy at keeping off freezing rain in the dead of winter. Grafted tender roses are kept at a minimum in my garden, where most of my roses are cane/tip hardy cultivars on their natural roots that require no winter protection and can stand up to freezing rain followed by very cold temperatures. It's not uncommon to get 1/2" thick of ice buid up on trees, plants, roses and our vehicles in these cold, humid parts of Ontario. With the detriment of freezing rain, our zone 4/5 winters might as well be reduced to a zone 3.
Thank you for your comments. So helpful in sharing your method and why. There are always so many different situations and growing conditions, sometimes even in the same yard or area. Sometimes different methods have to be used. Again Thank you! And good luck!
how do you tell when to stop watering/fertilizing and force them into dormancy?
Good question. They only need about 8 to 10 weeks of dry dormancy. So after they have bloomed, (late December to February maybe March) I water and fertilize ( fertilize once a month) them throughout the summer months. I stop watering them in late August allowing them to dry through Sept, Oct and early part of November. I then clean them up, repot if necessary and start watering and introducing to bright light mid-November.
@@SuccessfulGardens1 so they are in full growth mode when you stop watering?
Hi! I bought amaryllis bulb online. I did not know I am supposed to soak them before planting. My problem is it has been 2 months now and there are only leaves, no flower. What should I do? Thank you.
Pre watering isn't always necessary. I find it more reassuring, as like I am doing all of the right steps in the process. Now as for not budding or leafing out. Make sure that the soil is moist, not swampy wet, but moist. And make sure that it has the best light possible and in a warm area. All of my bulbs don't bloom or leaf out at the same time. There has been times that they have gone a couple of months before starting. Just make sure that your bulb remains firm to the touch. Good luck!
This is so helpful for beginners like me who want to grow the best bell peppers at home
Glad that it helped. Good luck in your choices and growing experience. Thanks for watching.
Hi Gary! Thank you so much for your instructional and helpful video. This is my first year growing roses. I have 3 hybrid tea roses that bloomed beautifully and I wanted instructions on how to winterize hybrid tea roses, specifically. I’m in zone 6/6a. I thought I messed up by not pruning back my roses earlier…Dec. 1 tomorrow, but I now know I can cut them back in order to cover them today. I also like your covering options. I should be able to find options from my garage without having to buy rose collars. Thank you for helping me become a rosarian!
Glad you found this video helpful. And yes there are several options out there that will accomplish the same thing. Good luck!
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching.
Greetings from the other side of the Pond, Gary, glad to see a new amaryllis/hippeastrum video......glad to see you haven't recovered from your habit. While it's great to see amaryllis blooming, I do feel sorry for the poor bulbs, with that wire thing poked into the base and starved of water. I know that they don't need any more nutrients to bloom, but goodness, it can't be good for the bulb to have hot wax pour all over it - think of sado-masochistic rituals or the waxing scene in "The 40 Year Old Virgin".....oh well
Yes, the imagery can be vivid. Thanks for the laugh. And sadly, I haven't had any success in staying away from new varietys. Catalogs can be very dangerous.

Thanks for sharing watching from far north east india i have few collection lets keep it growing
Thanks for watching...even from so far away!
I wish you would start with your zone. I have been growing in containers (30-40), and being in zone 9a with 90 to 100 degrees every day, will drive everything you do to make them successful. In these conditions Bells are susceptible to BER, so they need shade, lots of bone meal, more coco choir to retain water and buckets with dranage holes 3 inches high to leave a water reservoir at the bottom of the container. Small sweet peppers like the sugar cane red and Leysa, do better than the larger ones. My Cayenne hybrids and jalapeños are in full sun. Those containers need mulch. Some like the Sugar Rush and Ajis (mango, pinapple, lemon drop) do well in partial shade and are less susceptible to BER.
followed your yt posts great info, great insights, thanks :) ? do you have favorite source/s for high quality jumbo bulbs? thanks man
In the notes I have links to some of the bulb companies that I have ordered from. I have had great success from Brent and Beckys and then from my local garden center. Brecks can ship late, but I was pleased with the quality of the bulbs that I received. Whitehill has good bulbs. But I have found part of the "success" key is to order early. Thanks for watching hope it has helped.
@@SuccessfulGardens1 i see now lol much thanks
Put mine in pots and I brought them indoors. They’re only about 2 feet high. I would imagine they should do OK
Sounds like a great way to keep them over the winter. Thanks for sharing.
I got two “teacher” amaryllis last year… they have been in leaf mode for almost a year, it’s late October, should I cut the leaves and make them dormant?
Wow. At this point you don't have anything to lose. Cut the leaves, don't water for a couple of months. Pull them out again, and start watering them late Dec to mid Jan. Give them lots of light and see what happens. So weird that they didn't bloom. Good Luck.
Thank you for this treat to beauty of the amaryllis
It's my pleasure. Thanks for watching.

Should I mist/dampen canna bulbs during their hibernation? Thank you for the info!
For storing Canna bulbs/roots/corms it is not necessary to mist them. Cool and dry is the way to go.
Is it necessary to mist/dampen the bulbs during the course of their hibernation? Thanks!
No for Elephant Ear bulbs, it is not necessary.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will have to keep that in mind. I will have to dust off my canning skills or just ask my wife to help.
Wow awesome information! I have a Japanese Maple tree about 25 ft tall and I noticed on the leaves a bunch of white stuff. I can't reach them so I'm assuming its fungus. What are your recommendations?
I would first try to get a confirmation of the problem. Japanese Maples can be a bit particular about some of the chemical remedies that might be sprayed on them. Check with you local garden center first.
Question. I live in New Jersey, and my plant is still looking great. At what temperature should I cut her leaves and bring the bulb inside? Thanks!
I wait for a freeze to happen, so 32F, which burns the leaves down, but does not freeze the root. So watch your weather and enjoy them as long as the weather holds out. Good Luck!
What is your feeding routine
Great question, because fertilizing and water is very important. With all of my tomatoes, I will use a does of magnesium sulphate, when I plant and then maybe once a month through out the growing season. I apply a slow release, such as Osmocote once a month (depends on if it is a 30, 45, or 90 day slow release), usually a week or so after planting. I then follow up once a week with a water soluable fertilize (blue powder such as Miracle Grow, but I don't like MG). You might ask why so much fertilizer, I grow in raised beds and fertilizers will leach out fast in raised beds. So I have to use extra fertilizer.
Great information and easy. I have had a large Alocasia for 4 years now and would always carry in the whole thing. Your way is a lot easier to do. Thank you !
Glad it was helpful!
Kalugeritsa (from Baker Creek seeds) is my favorite semi hot pepper. Hottest are a little less than Jalapeno. Some not very hot at all. Just right when hot in my opinion. Very prolific. Just filled up a half gallon jar from one plant and pickled them.
Oh wow! And Baker Creek has so many to choose from too!
Why didn't you drill holes in the base of the pot?
If it rains on the dry leaves inside the chicken wire...do you then need to remove the wet leaves? and then remove them every time they get rained on, or do you just mix in some dried leaves on top of the leaves that got wet? Thanks 🙂
No need to replace the leaves. Can I ask which Zone are you in? If you are in a warmer zone than Zone 6, you shouldn't need to be protecting your roses with too many leaves. Good luck! and thanks for watching.
