I’ve done some more testing since I filmed this. I conservatively guesstimate (not scientific or accurate) about 30-40% better cooling when compared to stock.
Keep in mind this includes exhaust & intake mods as well as Chimera parts as they were all done within a day or two of each other.
I have zero regrets. In fact, I wish I would have done. These mods sooner!
I estimate about 10-15% increase in power output from previous stock setup. Overall I’m pleased with how this has all turned out so far!

Honda CT125 Takegawa Sports Exhaust Install (2021 JA55)
Переглядів 1213 місяці тому
Here I have installed a Takegawa Sports Exhaust on a 2021 Honda CT125. The sound is much nicer than stock, louder too! Since the install instructions are in Japanese, I decided to make a video showing you all how this is put together. It’s a very easy exhaust to install. Haven’t had much time to ride on it like this yet but will take it out soon & give a review when the time comes!
UL AmSteel Dog Leash (Dyneema)

I made this leash for my dog, Scooby, out of hollow braid 1/8” AmSteel (Dyneema) HMPE rope. This leash is incredibly lightweight & packs very small. It will definitely fit it in even the smallest hip belt pocket! This is designed for someone who plans to do most, if not then all, of their walking off leash. This kind of leash is not for everyone. This is an extremely minimal design & should onl...

Clapped Out Phatmoto Rover Project
Переглядів 53Рік тому
This is my Phatmoto Rover project. I bought this thing with a bunch of issues with the intention of rebuilding it. This thing is in horrifying shape, with more than it’s fair share of neglect. The previous owner did not give even a single fuck about maintenance. Am I in over my head on this one? Perhaps, but that’s part of the fun! I can’t wait to continue tearing this bike apart to rebuild it....

Honda CT125 Air Filter Inspection & Throttle Maintenance Update (Part 3)

It’s time to change the air filter so I ordered a new one. As an experiment, I decided to try to clean the factory air filter in order to see if it’s possible on a road trip. I ask myself sometimes, “If I was in a remote location, I’d it safe to risk cleaning the air filter or do I have to have it mailed in?” It’s questions like these that arise when one wants to ride around the world. Honda CT125 Sticky Throttle Cable Repair (Part 2)

I’ve taken the side cover off now. It’s much easier to access the throttle body once the bodywork is off. The cable adjustment is moving faster now & I can see what I’m doing now which helps a ton! The inside of the bodywork is also darkening due to dirt buildup so I will take this opportunity to clean those ...

I’ve done A LOT to the bike since the last video. The crash guards are changed. There is a new rack, heated seat, oil pump, hazard lights, etc. So many parts I lost count by now. As time goes on, I see the engine temperature more as a feature than a bug because it forc...

I have an update on the body repair from the previous video. The super glue with dirt seems to work just fine so far. I have a bundled up mess of wires as my throttle seems to be stuck on right turns but I’m sorting that out. Here I have the center cover for my 2021 Honda CT125. It’s cracked around a fastener so I’m repairing it with dirt & super glue “because I can” I found out the misalignment issue is due to an excess bulk of wires in the bodywork. I am currently in the process of rerouting my electrical components & fixing my sticky throttle cable issue that only occurs when at full lock to the right. Will this ...
Honda Trail 125 Morin Oil Cooler & MotoSkill Crash Guard

I have ridden this bike for a few hundred miles with this oil cooler setup. It works okay for temporary use but not for off-road at the moment because the suspension bottoms out from the bracket mounting location. As many problems as this oil cooler solves, it also can create. With added components comes added risk. The configuration seen is not the ideal install; in fact, it’s far from ideal. ...

thanks for sharing this.. i was looking for the grounding point in the trunk for backup camera install... clearly, I didn't look hard enough haha. cheers!
@@johnmcc5896 glad I could be of assistance!
That front fender no longer provides any protection for overspray
That’s exactly right. I’ve noticed my bike is MUCH dirtier lately after these mods. It’s especially dirtier near the sides of the bike! The main downside of the chimera heat buster head is the stock fender with fender lift no longer works anymore. I might experiment with grinding the stock fender to see if that makes any difference
hey man, sorry to get back to you on your video but for some reason your comment on my invite video never showed. Anyway, yes, feel free to bring your dog, just dont let him run free in the small area I will set up for myself. A woman did me wrong and ruined a good tent. Anyway, be sure to bring enough water for you and your dog, as the springs are not dependable. cheers
She’s a sweet pup & the kind to say hi to everyone. When at camp she’ll definitely be on a short leash but I prefer to hike off leash or with a longer leash during the day if at all possible. Our first few weeks together were backpacking so she’s used to cowboy camping with me & will cuddle right up to my sleeping bag There’s a chance I might check out the spot before then just to see if there’s water. If there is, I might be there. If there isn’t, I’ll reconsider. Will definitely trim her nails before we come too
@@arasheqajar alright. there is a slow-moving spring crossing the trail halfway and another 3/4 the way that flows good but youll need climb down to it. If your coming, just bring water. Ill bring an extra liter or 2 incase one of you guys taps out dry.
Don't worry to much about dirt in the jack shaft housing because the bearings are 6202 2RS, rubber sealed on both sides. On the gas tank bib there is a small hole in the threads for a vent. Don't even worry about the chain, it is super cheap China chain that stretches and wears out fast. The cheap chain wears out the sprockets fast. Buy some quality 415 moto cross chain, Regina, Pro Taper, Renthal, etc. I have had my Rover since May of 2019, about the 3rd bike to be shipped so I know it intimately. The bottom bracket can be bought from Phatmoto for $19. The jack shaft bearings can be bought separate like I say they 6202 2 RS, but any thing else like the spline sprockets, and shaft are only available from Phatmoto as a kit for about $70. You can switch out to a true 5/8 keyed shaft like I did for about $70, including sprockets. As for a HF P79cc engine on it you'll need to make a motor mount as the engine needs 30+mm's or about 1 1/4 elevation on rear for the valve cover to clear seat tube. Anyway Good Luck with your project, once you get it built with some quality parts and maintain it it is a good street bike, avoid any serious off road or jumping with it as the hard tail rear can suffer cracking.
The gas cap vent is already installed so I guess I ain’t goin back on that one. A new chain is definitely on my list of upgrades. The one that it had on there is awful. I have the bottom bracket ready but I’m waiting for the Jackshaft kit to put it all together. I haven’t figured out the motor situation yet. We’ll see what happens there. For now, I want to get the supporting parts ready so when the motor is installed, it is ready to ride! There’s a part of me that wants to add a gearbox hub wheel so that might be coming soon too. Cracking doesn’t surprise me considering it’s a hardtail with an engine that vibrates & normal bicycle axles. We’ll see what happens
@@arasheqajar Yeah, the gas cap vent is extra security as the hole in the threads can get plugged with paint. Good luck, looking forward to the finished bike.
How much did it cost you? That frame is great. I bet when you get the better forks on and maybe bigger engine? It'll be awesome
It cost me $150 for everything. Frame, wheels, engine, & all the parts that go with it. If I can get that engine fixed then I don’t know if I’ll need to upgrade it
@@arasheqajar dude, that's such a good buy! We just got 2023 Phatmotos in the Czech Republic. Sadly the forks are crap and they ommitted the Hilliard clutch for some reason but yeah. We'll see
@@Matthew-wj8cm it’s a good buy until you realize the seat tube design allows dirt to build up in the jackshaft & bottom bracket if left outside. I’m gonna have to get creative to find a proper solution for that. If you ask me, its this kind of design flaw that makes these bikes so unreliable
@@arasheqajar Like I say Phatmoto leaves debris in the JS housing at the factory in China, don't worry so much about it, the bearings are sealed. Concentrate on the rear wheel hub, make sure you have the correct amount of loose bearings and they are packed with good grease. Also the 50T sprocket/rotor disc needs upgraded bolts to 12.9 class metric and use thread locker on them, the bolts are prone to coming loose and destroying the rear hub. Good luck.
@@Matthew-wj8cm The Phatmoto they sell in the Czech Republic is not from Phatmoto, China is selling a similar bike there. Nader owns the copyright, he is out of Van Nuys, California, where his store is. But sadly China is not trustworthy. Anyway why it comes with the cheap Chinese clone clutch is Nader adds the Hilliard to his bikes only as a upgrade. Myself and another good friend, did the testing for Hilliard for Phatmoto to come up with a suitable clutch, weights, spring combo's etc. I liked it because I got 4 good quality Hilliard clutches out of the deal. Anyway the bike in the Czech Republic is a good one with a more robust looking frame and more room in the engine triangle for engine swaps etc.
take the cooler off the bracket and attach it to the clamps and put it behind your crash bar. it will just fit and wont hit the guard.
I wish there was space for that. I really do. It barely doesn’t clear. I would’ve had to delete the plastic bottom panel that protects my wiring & that was not an option for me. Anyway this crash guard is crap & I changed it lol
Oi, Max here 2gether with Nick. Where ya’ll at?
Takin a zero & skipping some snow. I’ll catch up in no time. Sundial is on trail headed north
What the heck is this
My chocolate bar froze overnight & this is how I warmed it
great little bike , you put a bit of gear on it. Ride safe mate,
Thanks!
TLDR: It works but the process takes a long time Update 1: The air filter does not dry quickly so I don’t recommend washing it like I did unless you have a good bit of time on your hands. It is still moist. The bike would surely start if I needed it to & I could definitely run it for a while without issues but the air filter is taking much longer to dry than I had hoped. Then again it’s my first time cleaning an air filter so take with a grain of salt
Update 2: After just 5 days of drying, I used a k&n air filter lubricant. It works just fine, like brand new. I’d call this a success assuming you can wait that long
I forget, what state do you live in? Will hopefully be riding my monkey around the lower 48 state's this summer. I'll be leaving from north central Minnesota. Shooting for 1,000 miles per state minimum. Hopefully I'll see you on the road. Cheers
That sounds like a blast! If I could go back in time, maybe a monkey makes more sense than the ct125. I’m in Southern California for now. We’ll see where life takes us 🤷♂️
@@arasheqajar I think I would enjoy the CT125 just as much as the monkey. 😁
@@johnbeaudette583 the ct125 is definitely not as good offroad. I chose it because of gas mileage & fuel injection. I guess the grass is always greener, right 🤷♂️
Careful using brake cleaner or carb cleaner - they can eat at plastic and warp rubber parts. I find starting fluid to be as effective but less harmful in that respect. Cleaners like Maxima Suspension Clean and CRC MAF Sensor Cleaner are also less aggressive in that respect as well. You'll want to adjust your throttle freeplay / cable tension upon reinstall. Too loose, and your throttle will have too much play. Too tight, and it'll drag/bind. That may have been what was going on to begin with - I'm surprised a new bike already had a sticky throttle, even with some dirt in there.
I did not know that! I always appreciate advice when it’s given to me. Very helpful comment The freeplay wasn’t too bad but definitely a bit loose. Might make a video on freeplay adjustment too
Just be careful using solvents like carbie and brake cleaners around rubber and some plastics. I learn't the hard way and destroyed a switch block at work. Plain old koresene. Cheap and a lot kinder to some of those materials.
The plan for now is to let it sit for a few days then see what happens. I’m hoping I didn’t mess anything up. For now it seems to be holding up like normal
Looks like you ran through Sanford and Son's lot lol.
I think I might be too young to understand that 🤣
awesome looking bike
There is stuff everywhere I don't know how you do it man that would drive me absolutely insane but I do like your bike and I'm watching this cause I'm thinking about getting oil cooler I bought the new Digital speedometer and it's really nice it tells you the temperature and mine was coming up I went as high as 296゚F and I thought that was really really hot apparently this is normal but I don't know that seems really hot to me so I was in my get one of these oil coolers seems like it's really nice I have the original OM bar so it should fit really good
I think getting hot is just part of the air cooled experience. My oil cooler hasn’t been cooling the engine as much as I want lately because of my temporary suboptimal mounting due to the crash bar I have. That will be updated soon when I change my crash bars. For now, I would still say that although I’ve had the oil cooler for a good while, I still haven’t given it a fair shake because of the mounting issues. I hypothesize it‘ll make a big difference. Anything to maximize air flow through the system is ideal. I’m considering adding a second oil cooler but mounting again could be an issue. 296f sounds pretty typical to me. I’ve definitely run much hotter than that riding around the hills of Yosemite. One thing I noticed with the oil cooler is it absolutely NEEDS a fan if you’re using it for long hours in city traffic, idling behind lights. Otherwise I just kill the engine 2-3 cars from the front at stoplights whenever it’s hot. The oil cooler is only realistically useful at higher speeds. I have mixed feelings about it for sure but nothing concrete still
@@arasheqajar How much does your cooler cool your engine down how many degrees would you say drops it from having it versus not having thank you Frank I'm deciding whether or not to get one
@@Frank-vo9xo i can’t give a definitive number & even if I could, it likely wouldn’t be very scientific until I can test it in a similar temperatures & terrain. It does help but not as much as you think. That’s all I can say. The position you see the oil cooler mounted in this video is not how I’ve been running it. I will show in my next video how I’ve mounted the oil cooler & you’ll see what I mean. I’m not in a position to judge for now. Time has yet to tell what effect this has. I’m actually considering going back to air cooled because the oil cooler really is just jerry rigged to the bike & I fear it may impact reliability in the future due to the mounting. The more I ride & stop every 15 minutes, the more I realize air cooled machines are designed to overheat so you stop more often. It forces me to throw planning out the window & I’m beginning to appreciate that. There’s a perspective to be had that the issue is really just the patience of the rider I want a reliable machine. That’s the goal. When I decide the which is preferable, I will post that here
I wish they would bring back the Hi/Lo trans. That was really what made the original bike shine.
What state are you in? I can't find one of these to save my life!
I’m in California & still have it. Make me an offer of you like
180 c°!!!! No way that's 356 f°
It would fry first
@@chazzec You’re hardly the only person to say that. I saw that number on multiple occasions riding around the yosemite area in the summer heat
@@chazzec I rode my bike 40 miles and my bike was at 296゚ fahren he says 356 Fahrenheit I believe him because my meter goes up to 356 before it triggers service engine
Awesome customization. I think you should add a smoke effect. A controlled mineral oil drip to the exhaust, exactly like a sky writing plane. The exhaust pipe not far from the exhaust port, is hot enough for the desired effect. It would be a great warning to the tailgators and give you enhanced cover for the water gun. Be safe. Good times. Thank you.
Might try that. I’ve been contemplating a smoke screen. Maybe I could get more bang for less weight. I haven’t been running the water gun lately because it’s too inefficient (runs out of water too fast)
Your camera system looks awesome (as well as everything else) what camera is that anyhow?
I’ll update the description for you. It’s a vsysto dash camera from amazon
How far do u ride that ? It looks like u go far.
My maximum range is about 350 miles, both boxes loaded with just the 5l auxiliary tank (10l total). If I took no tools, I could probably inch upto 500 mi while still being below gvm. If the rider is 2/3 of my weight (almost as small as an adult large enough to ride this bike could be), maybe 600+ mi without tools.

13 tooth front sprocket is the only way to go! I couldn't believe the difference!
Hard to argue with the off-road performance of 13t. I ran 44/13 for a while & loved it!
Haha fun stuff!
The Honda, Yamaha HD dealer in Kingman will not take a deposit on the Honda Trail 125 to order one for me and that really sucks for a dealer. Hope the recession puts them out of business.
I bought mine used. These machines are not perfect. I honestly believe the carbureted 110 & 90 models were much better bikes. EFI runs infinitely better & is much more efficient but if just one wrong sensor gets ripped off then it’s gonna be a shit time lol
Waiting lists so long, they are in effect, NOT FOR SALE IN THE US. Harley Davidson, please copy this design and double the horsepower, straight handlebar, belt drive, double fuel capacity, manual 5-speed. Change nothing else. Easy money.
I would buy a v twin version of this but if it was a belt drive then first thing I’d do is throw a chain on it
The Honda Yamaha HD dealer in Kingman AZ will not take a $500 deposit on the Honda Trail 125, they suck, very hostile to selling any Japanese bike. Currently ride a 2012 Kymco Like 200 i (17,000 miles) I guess will have to ride to find another dealer.
