"Trashed" Tron Arcade Restoration, Softer Music Version!
** This is a reduced/softer music version for those who prefer a quieter, more documentary-style presentation **
The original, full-throttle video can be found at: ua-cam.com/video/KhHNqwRHC9Q/v-deo.html
This one is perhaps his most epic restoration yet!
Join Tod as he tackles his latest (and maybe greatest?) arcade restoration challenge -- TRON!
He starts his journey with a road trip to pick up a Tron arcade cabinet that nearly ended up in a burn pile (and rightfully so!). Missing nearly all of its major parts, Tod has to gather the required components and figure out how to put them back together into a working game. The nearly six-month-long restoration process includes woodworking, wiring, circuit board repair, arcade monitor rebuilding, polishing, painting, and so much more!
By the end of the video Tron is up and running and ready to take its spot in the 1980s-style arcade. Hopefully you will enjoy the ride and gain some helpful knowledge about arcade games and the movie itself. As always, Tod approaches his work with a sense of humor and keeps the video light and upbeat.
** If you enjoy the video, please help me out by liking and subscribing. And comments are much appreciated! **
Be sure to check out my other videos, including an epic Nintendo Red Tent restoration and a walkthrough of my extensive video game collection. Thanks!

    I've heard that Williams uses some of the video RAM with the computations and that might be that garbled line of color on the right you're seeing. I guess other manufacturer's did the same thing. What you did by increasing the video size or moving the image is the solution.

      @@tcurtis49 Oh yeah, spread it on thin on the spinning turntable so it'll dry in a few hours. I actually have a white plastic disc I put under it. I bought it for transparent color records to make them more visible but it works great for not getting a mess on the platter. It will be clear when dry. Spread on too thick and it will still be yellow a whole day later. I use a flexible credit card. You want to not use the edge so much but use the card more like spreading icing on a cake. When it's dried clear, you get an edge with your fingernail and pull the whole thing off with a zip kind of sound. Cleans the record great. It might be the best thing for cleaning a record. Plus you get that nice "glue record" when you pull it off. 😁 If your record still doesn't sound good after that then you might want to find another one.

    I have watched a ton of arcade restoration videos over the years, and I had no idea it was even possible to repair particleboard that was this far gone. When I saw the state it was in, I was expecting a 'Ship of Theseus' type scenario in which you replaced most of the panels or at least large sections of the panels. I get wanting to preserve as much of the original machine as possible, but with the amount of work you've put into keeping the original particle board i would have just completely replaced the cabinet out of the maple, it won't be too many years before different parts of it are in the same kind of condition as what you've just fixed :(

    • @tcurtis49
      @tcurtis49 11 днів тому

      A lot of people would, and you can buy this cabinet pre-made if you like. I'm curious why you think it will deteriorate over time. When properly restored and kept in a normal environment (like a home) there's no reason for it to spontaneously rot. Especially given that the most problematic area would be the base and I've replaced it with maple. The previous damage was due to water getting into the base of the cabinet once it was no longer off the floor (due to missing leg levelers) and stored against concrete. I have games I restored in the late 1990s that look exactly the same today, so if that means for the next 30 years I have nothing to worry about, I'm good :)

      The tin will protect the copper as well, and is useful for the edge connector pins that do have to stay exposed. So I had some and thought I'd give it a try. Some people will cover that with green nail polish, much like the solder mask. In this case the area I'm covering is part of the ground circuit and it really doesn't have to be covered at all, but was good practice to see what would happen. If I were doing board repairs more often I might get the solder mask. Thanks!
