I feel like the 'soul' part confuses a lot of people, rightfully so because nobody can provide an exact definition for what the 'soul' of a car is so here's my best explanation, according to what I've understood from my father (he has a LOT more driving experience than I do): when you take a car out onto the road, it becomes clearer what the 'soul' is. and I'm not talking about crawling along in a traffic jam, because that's not even 'driving'. take the car out onto a twisty, winding road and start pushing it a bit (while keeping everything nice and safe and legal). some cars, no matter how gently you try to nudge it around a corner will feel like it just wants all this to end. it understeers, it doesn't want to take the corner, it doesn't want to brake, etc. etc. it feels like it just want you to stop and just go back to city crawling. but some cars, when you push them you feel the exact opposite. it feels like the cars wants to take corners like this or even faster. you push it more, and it wants to go even faster. ofc the car will start letting you know if you're getting close to the limit, but until then, it feels like the car enjoys being driven like this. that is what the 'soul' is, according to my father. of course, there's a scientific explanation as well: all the above 'feelings' depend on various factors such as the suspension settings, the chassis dynamics, the steering ratio as well as the gearbox setup and the engine. so if the designers and engineers behind the car care about these characteristics, they will try their best to optimise these factors to bring the most joy to the driver. so yeah, enthusiast designers and engineers can give a car 'soul', just like you said. (btw this is mostly applicable for road-focused cars, other types of vehicles may be different eg. an off-road focused vehicle may handle like shit on roads but handle off-road trails and rocks exceptionally well so yeah test the 'soul' of each type of vehicle on their intended surfaces, cheers and happy driving/riding!) People don't understand that luxury, power or cost is not the soul of a car. Easy explanation - a big man with scars and tattoos can have a really nice personality and can be very loving in nature and a nice Goodlooking guy can have a dark, ugly soul. But at the same time, for cars, it very highly depends on what a person can buy/afford and what does the job for him. For example, Alto has a soul. Not for everyone, but ask a guy who grew up in poverty and at 25, he finally had enough money to buy an Alto. It might be small, slow and cheap. But it's his Alto. another example is that the OP has a Pulsar, is it the fastest? No. Is it the most beautiful motorcycle on the road? No. Is it made with very high precision like some boutique motorcycles? No. But does it have a soul? Hell yes. It's not about the machine, but about the feeling the machine gives to the driver/rider. In my personal view, Nano had a soul and those who've driven it know it. And cars don't need to be expensive for you to feel good while driving them. They need to be responsive, well-crafted and soothing to drive. But a country full of people buying 2-wheel drive SUVs, it's a really hard concept to explain.

this video is bit miss leading. the problem is with not indian car manufacturer ,the problem lies within people(customers), and government policies. that is also the reason american, european,and few japanese manufacturer left indian market. pininfarina and mahindra's formula e team is managed by mahindra and mahindra group so they can easily come up with 500-1000 hp supercar and so do tata, but they wont cause we have shitty government policies and shitty customer market where people happy buying wagon r and puting cng kit in it.

All I ever wanted was a light weight RWD car with a manual gearbox. I guess this is too much to ask, here in India.

Even normal everyday cars have soul. It isn't just something you get free from six cylinders and up lol. Why do people put angry grille on thars ? Why does some of the cars have mean look while some like beetle have cute looks ? Because when combined , the front face gives emotions. Good or bad. Just like any human face would. ( Won't be understandable for a to b fibretruck fen booys) .it drinks petrol( food ) has a stomach has a heart ( normally four chambers- cylinders) has an exhaust just like people and animals. Four legs and up, internal combustion engine produces different sounds, it groans in the cold mornings, energetically wakes up during middle of the day, protests when you downshift( we make it protest so that we can enjoy the protest. Just like making your toddler angry to see it's cute anger) etc...car is an important factor for Indian youtubers because most of them are filming inside most of the time😆, when you go to western countries, you will see cars shaking🤣...vehicles are a huge part in our lives. I used to get bullied a lot at school for expressing that aspect for liking cars and I do realize how dumb I seem to “normal people.” You don’t have to like sports cars to be a car enthusiast. I will agree on the soul part because we as the drivers and the people who experience the car we give it a soul. If we take the example of Oliver, the yellow 63 Opel Kadett that Richard Hammond brought back from Africa, he gave the car a soul and called it his own even if it's a shitbox in most people's eyes. A lot of people may not be able to afford new and luxurious sports cars, but the cheap ones, experience them, let them talk to you, give them a soul.
