    I had a 2023 Rocky Mtn Altitude 4.0 . It required a lot more rider energy than a Brose, Bosch or Yamaha to get the most out of it. The biggest drawback was the battery charging system overcharged the battery and the battery exploded and burned everything in my garage to ashes. Rocky Mountain seemed to want to help, but in the end they just wanted to get the burned bike out of my possession and pretend it never happened. They hired a bunch of lawyers to threaten me from telling this true event. I feel a duty to warn potential buyers of the very real danger of keeping a Rocky Mountain bike indoors. The damage to my home and property is over 350k, and I am lucky to be alive. Don't take the risk with a Rocky Mountain E-MTB. It is not worth it.

    So what was the final verdict on climbing after a little more use? I have demoed so many bikes and I am a firm, firm believer that 29" wheels do not work on the back of small frame bikes. There is just not enough butt-to-tire clearance even when just sitting to lower the seat for descending. I really want a shorter travel bike but cannot find one without a 29" rear wheel. We love our YT bikes and I would love to get an Izzo.

    Holy cow he was absolutely ripping in this video. Just picked up an Izzo Core 4 on mega sale for $3k from YT. On Transition Spire and wanted a full sus that pedals for mellower singletrack but wanted to make sure I could still send it. This video proves that won't be an issue lol. It almost looks like the izzo was TOO fast and light for a lot of the sections. Going to take some getting used to coming off a big bike. Also looks like the thing wants to leap into the air. I am so excited. Keep shredding!

    it's a pity the RM doesn't have the reviews and comparisons to Bosch , brose , shimano , etc. i've only heard positive reports from that bike . i live in germany and ride a NOX (Austrian bike) that had the newer Sachs motor , made in germany . it has 112 NM. i also have a bosch cx motor on a Cube and on steep hills the Sachs destroys the bosch even in low cadence . i don't know how fast i could go up hills because i can reach the pre set speed of 25 kph so easily and then get no assist .

    I took the rm a50 and I'm happy. The only thing I relied on and heard from the web was the 108nm motor being the most powerful. I had a trek rail 5 625w with 85 nm bosch and with the turbo it was more explosive and copious than the 4.0 dyname. I did a "recovery" with a friend of mine who has the bosch in turbo and I in ludicrous and we were even though my leg was more trained than his. I calibrate the bike every outgoing and boost in +2 at any place, maybe motor is not ok?

    Interesting and fun review thanks. I ride Trek Rail with Bosch which comes on real fast. I bought it over a Levo because everyone raved about its power but the Turbo mode is useless in the technical stuff though emtb assist is better. I would love to try this thing out. Also I wonder how the Instinct compares to the Altitude. I don't need that big travel of an Enduro bike and like something more agile in turns.

    • @Raumance

      If you can't use turbo that's you being useless not being able to control if not the mode. You basically don't know how to use brakes and haven't learned timing.

    @CaliforniaMTB Thank you so much for this review! I've been going back and forth in my mind for a while now between the IZZO and the JEFFSY. And when you said that the IZZO isn't significantly better on climbs but the JEFFSY is significantly better on the downhills, that's all I needed. Mind made up, JEFFSY it is. Thanks! Now I just have to choose the size, as I'm 183 cm (and 85 kg) right between L and XL. I'm coming from a Cube Stereo 120 (my first bike), size L, so even if I go with the JEFFSY L, it will still be a bit longer than I'm used to. I do have a slightly longer torso compared to my legs and I have rather long monkey arms, so I'm hoping longer reach will help me feel less boxed in. Any thoughts on sizing would be much appreciated! But no hurry, a month ago I destroyed my knee riding and just had my ACL reconstructed. So in reality, I'll probably end up on the 2023 model. Also, one last question, do you think the JEFFSY would be good on a trans-alp ride? Thanks a ton!

    Great review! After reading the comments and watching yours and others videos I’m still left wondering which YT model I should go with. I understand a lot of this comes down to personal preference but I want to come to an educated decision before dropping close to $6K on a bike. Can you assist in that? You seem to have quite the experience with different YT models. 5’9” 185lbs. Currently live in VA riding on rooty, rocking single track/XC focused trails. After a couple years will go back to SoCal where I’m from to ride similar terrain in many of your videos. I don’t race nor have the desire to enter XC races, but desire to keep up with XC group rides on the climbs but want hit rowdy stuff on the descents (not park). Also desire to ride CO style back country terrain couple times a year. The 2022 Jeffsy Core 4 red color looks sick, the 2022 Izzo Core 4 black looks ok (not a fav) but don’t want to decide solely on color. Most rides consist of 10-15, but want to do the occasional 30+ miles of mixed type of trails. Any suggestions are appreciated. Can’t afford to have multiple platforms so looking for an all rounder. For reference I currently ride a Trek Marlin hard tail and have never risen a FS but know that an FS is for sure my next ride.

    • @CaptGoodJob
      @CaptGoodJob 2 роки тому

      I think an Izzy would be the best YT for you. I think though that after considering all of your info, you would be better on an XC bike. Consider the Rocky Mountain Element. They have a variety of prices. I sold my Izzo as it was one of my least favorite bikes. It didn’t do anything very well.

    Hi, would you say that new 2021 Jeffsy feels smaller than other similar bikes? I am waiting for stock on Jeffsy Core 2 and seem to be confused about sizing. I am 182cm (5.97) and according to YT size chart I should chose Large (173-183cm) but could also size up to XL (183-193cm). Some owners are saying that I should size up, however others say I should definitely chose Large. What would you suggest after riding the bike (I think it is same dimensions as 2021 Core 2). Thanks

    • @CaptGoodJob
      @CaptGoodJob 2 роки тому

      Size is a personal preference with bike. At 5’11”, you could ride either the L or XL. L would feel sportier and make sense for people that come from BMX. XL would feel more stable at speed for a newer rider. Which one is more you?

I appreciated your review/test/comparison of the Rocky Mountain Powerplay, I think I am going to go with one of those, they seem well spec'd and I like the way the engine seems to work - plus a 672wh battery is icing on the cake. The precision of the power assist for the RMPP is due to the torque sensor that holds a small cog along the chain. Even a little pressure on the chain is noticed by the torque sensor where as the other ebike motors require the crack to actually move a specific distance before the assist kicks in.

    Regarding chain sound. Anyone rideing a Powerplay should give a good wax emulsion based chain lube a try. Really makes a difference since the motor itself is completely quiet compared to both Brose and Shimanos high pitch sound. I've been using Squirt Lube for the last year, and are now tryin the new Jucelube Wax. Keeps the grinding sound away and also keeps the chain clean. I keep a small bottle of wet lube in my backpack but have so far not used it on my even longer wet riders. But good to have when others have forgotten to lube after every ride/ bike wash.

    To be honest, in my opinion such races are totally nonsense because there is no seriously difficult parts in the course. It's stupid gravel road "rush" with no technically difficult parts, no a lot of very steep, rough rocky and rooted parts with uphill steps, narrow turns and so on, where the rider has to balance the power of the bike, keep the front down and do his best to stay fast. If there are not mostly technical sections, everyone can switch on the power and ride. But that's not your fault 👍 Don't understand me wrong, it's nice but not a big challenge in my opinion 🤔 PS: we both discussed the video with the Rocky/Shimano compare...

    • @CaptGoodJob
      @CaptGoodJob 3 роки тому

      I understand why would think that. This race was physically hard as hell for me. I’m a downhill racer so the fast technical downhill lets we’re easy for me and I passes the XC people. They killed me in fitness. The bike and motor wasn’t that much of a factor from what I saw.
