    I've owned a '19 Z900RS Cafe for last 5 years now and I agree with all of your points. I've used 89 octane once when it was all I could find, that was 2 years ago and no issues. Out of the 10 bikes I've owned it's the best non-sport bike I've ridden, so far. I wish it had self-cancelling turn signals along with LED signals too and the stalks on my signals cracked leaving them hanging by the wires. Nothing to be very concerned about because that issue has been addressed by Kawasaki now, I'm sure. You've done a great video review on this bike from an owner's position.

    I'm in the same spot as you and I'm curious about those things. If could answer each would be great! 1. Is the seat more comfortable than on the CRF300L? 2. Is the On/Off throttle more noticeable than on the CRF300L? 3. Is the bike noticeably heavier than the CRF300L? 4. How nimble is the Tenere 700?

    • @bertsbike
      @bertsbike 2 дні тому

      Great questions... Honestly the seat was fine on both bikes, but I'd say the Tenere's is a little wider to me. Making it more cofortable. The on/off seems "normal" meaning both bikes are intuitive once you know it's there. I'd give the nod to the crf tho. Weight wasn't an issue for me at all. The bike feels bigger and more planted than the CRF. It has more real estate but doesn't feel heavy. Assuming you'll notice the weight once off road. I'd say it's plenty nimble. but if you're comparing it to the crf... The Tenere has way better suspension, making it feel more confident and spry. The CRF is fine but the rear shock is so soft you get that squatty feeling. Since the CRF has much less weight making easier to man handle Having ridden both the Tenere is an upgrade in almost every way.

    • @bertsbike

    Great insights across the board with this R18 content! Not many people are going beyond the quick test ride and making informed judgements - it's been difficult to source well considered reviews. I recently sold my R9t and have been testing the R18 out (rode the Roctane most recently). I'm considering some version of the R18 as my one bike replacement. What are your thoughts on it being the only thing in the garage? I wanted more power and more comfort at distance than the 9t could offer me - but don't want to sacrifice any fun. Would be stoked to hear your opinion!

    • @bertsbike
      @bertsbike 2 дні тому

      @@jonathansnyder I think it would be fine as the only bike in the garage. It's not really Ideal for dense city riding IMO. It can be done of course. I'm on a 500+ mile trip right now, and it absolutely crushes distance. Very planted and stable on the highway. Backroad riding is a blast too, but it excels in longer jaunts. Long sweeping backroads or Interstate. Surprisingly the wind management is very good despite not having a screen. I have the stock seat and it's the most comfortable I've been on a bike. I usually take a quick break 70 miles in, but on this bike I've been taking breaks at 100-150miles.

      I do find it comfortable. The handlebars are what most people love/hate on the Cafe'. But that's an easy swap. The seat is a little lower than the standard as well. Overall the standard is more comfy but it does sit you up a little higher with the seat.

    I love mine. 2020 Cafe. Got rid of the quirky throttle with the Ivan's flash and air box mod. Delkavic headers. Kept the stock muff. Sounds great. Sold my ZZR1200 when i bought this. A good 100lbs lighter. Much more flickable. Also put on SS brake lines. That cleaned up the abs issues.

    I'm 62 and I have the cafe version. I absolutely love the bike but the form-fitting seat kind of hurts my butt after about an hour. I got a CC Rider bench seat with green stitching that matches the bike. It actually looks better than the stock seat and is more comfortable. I put some 1 inch bar risers on it because that's the most you can go without lengthening the cables. I also put foam grips on it because it was hurting my hands just a little bit. That combination made a big difference.

And rain is actually my economy mode on a long streach of motorway/highway I put the bike in cruse control at set speed and let my wrist relax. You will find that doing it like this you will get another 30-40 miles before the low fuel light will come on compered with sport mode.

    The Brakes on my 2020 z900rs cafe are really good. They work well. If you’re pushing the bike it can feel “squishy” when slowing at high speeds. A set of steel braided likes would prolly make the brakes go from pretty good to really great. Also even though they can feel squishy the brakes still have good feel I must say.

    My Cafe is two yrs old and I have only two gripes: the 'twitchy' throttle and the seat height. For the throttle, I swapped out the throttle tube and that helped some, only some, and yes, that throttle make slow speed maneuvers more challenging. For the seat height, am 5'6, I had the dealer installed a Brock's lowering kit when I bought it, but I would say am in the minority when it comes to that gripe. My other bike is a 1998 Buell S1 and the Cafe takes more efforts to maneuver compares to the S1. On the technology side, going from the S1 to the Cafe is like the P-51 to the F-16. Overall, and excellent review of the Cafe and I agree with you that the Cafe is a complete motorcycle. I will be keeping my Cafe until I cannot ride anymore.
