Make Me Laugh
Make Me Laugh was an American game show in which contestants watched three stand-up comedians performing their acts, one at a time, earning one dollar for every second that they could make it through without laughing. Each comedian got sixty seconds to try to crack the contestant up. If a contestant succeeding in not laughing the full 3 minutes, their $180 winnings were doubled to $360. On Van's version, contestants (who were selected from the audience) that lasted the full three minutes had their winnings doubled to $360; also, a celebrity guest would play the last round of each episode, playing for an audience member who would receive a prize just for being chosen, and up to three more prizes based on how many comedians the celebrity could survive.
A number of then-unknown comics appeared on this version before going on to greater fame; among them were Bob Saget, Howie Mandel, Gallagher, Gary Mule Deer, Yakov Smirnoff, Bruce 'Babyman' Baum and Garry Shandling.
The theme music for the 1970s version was entitled Laugh, and was performed by Artie Butler and the Big Boffers.

In June 1980, NBC cancelled Heatter-Quigley's flagship show The Hollywood Squares and the revival of High Rollers in favor of a 90-minute (later 60) talk-variety show hosted by future late night icon David Letterman. When Letterman's effort failed miserably after a four-month run, the network obviously decided to make amends to the packager by reviving Gambit. Plugging the show in at 10 a.m./9 ...

Three aces, a two and a six, that equals twenty one, I just love that delayed reaction by everybody in the audience when Elaine Stewart turned up that six to give them a five-card 21 and I just love Karen's emotional reaction and she was very teary eyed too, this is a true Gambit classic gem!!
This was a good show.I was surprised when they cancelled it after Bobby Van died.I thought they'd get a new host.I remember one woman who ended her appearance in 11 seconds when she answered the comic and laughed at her own remark.
Thanks for posting!
The only thing lamer than these guys, are the prizes.
This and the Gong show❤
Reminds me of the Circus.
Really, Gig, Switchboard (Brenda) really isn't so bad. She may sound like a walking tabloid, but she has cool hair and glasses, and she made me laugh when she said, "Bang" in "Chase of a Lifetime". Also, dating two girls at the same time isn't good for your health. You can't turn out those great performances with Jett if you're in lousy condition. Be satisfied with Switchboard and her all-gossip orchestra. 😊
This is a July 1975 episode from the short-lived American game show Magnificent Marble Machine (it already ended on NBC). The two teams competing on this episode are Florence & Bobbie and Roddy & Gary. 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
The disco theme song gives away the era.
I'm sure there were pinball wizards on this NBC game show in 1975 until March 1976. RIP Art James.
All I would have to do is get really high and be stone faced
The guy at the end got some good prizes. A microwave oven price then is equivalent to about $600 today. And did they say a week in Vegas?
28:17 - So I guess it's true: Bobby Van and the _WKRP in Cincinnati_ gang were next-door neighbors at the time, studio-wise.
I like the unknown comic he is funny. 🤣👍
I remember this show from when I was a kid. The 70s will return. I’ll never forget the one where the comedian came out beating the shit out of a stuffed rabbit for about 20-30 seconds before yelling, “HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU, TRIX ARE FOR KIDS!!” My brother and I thought that was the funniest goddamned thing we’d ever seen. Thank you for sharing this.
I use to watch this when we lived at Ft Riley Kansas
I think they would make them laugh if they stand there and do nothing
After Las Vegas Gambit canceled, Lee Menning was also a hostess for Sale Of The Century, and Your Numbers Up.
This was part Las Vegas Gambit, and the bonus round was part High Rollers.
Bobby Vann was my favorite game show host. Make me Laugh was definitely my favorite show
I thought the unknown comic was on the gong show
These old advertisements are captivating. I wonder if people forty years from now will watch the pharma and attorney ads and think "WTF?! That's not even a real product!!!! And that, that's just a goddamn pillow!"
one of my all time favs shows loved bobby
My Grandmother told me about this show in 1979.
Remember the show, wonderful comedians. The whole concept was of course not to laugh while professional comedians try their best to get you to laugh.
This show is from at least around 1975
I want My MTV
Go time magazines and books. Great offices. Checks and reviews.
Hi
What a great rare home recording. I think this is one of those shows where they erased and reused the videotapes to save money so there's nothing left in the vault.
The Unknown Comic was an idiot. Not even funny
He tried wearing a vacuum cleaner bag, but that sucked too.
Breath Savers ad. HAHAHAJAJAJAJAJAJA!
Gerald from 13 and 14 cameras movie should be a good comedian in the show!
Me I prefer to be on the comedian side of the game. If I were one of the comedians in the show I’ll be wearing my torn very awful - smelling very dirty faded pajamas. Then shave off the top of my head exposing my very severe and very white dandruff peeling off on my head then make a joke about it whilst sticking my finger up my ass then smelling it from time to time. How’s that for a laugh? In addition, I’m missing 2 of my front upper teeth and 4 front lower teeth.
Wow. Anthony Davis. He is entertaining in so many ways.
BRiNG thIS BACK!!
1:22 notice how flo and roddy are the same height? Its a secret law in Hollywood, everyone has to be between 5'2 and 5'4 .
I was a pinball wizard as a kid, before pac man etc. Pinball was king! I couldn't believe how bad the contestants were, me and my buds would still be playing.!
Johnny Gilbert of Jeopardy fame
I loved this show.
And it still plays better than an Atari Hercules.
Oh, the rubbish they had on TV back in the day...
A little less clapping and a little more laughing
I loved this show!! One of the funniest ones was when the contestant fell on the stage!
I like the one where the woman kept blowing to keep from laughing and the comedians took their shirts off and started to pose for her!
R.I.P. Bob Saget
I’m so old
Wow, this brings back memories 👏
Bobby Van! Love that guy. RIP
How many episodes were there? And if we can get more of this, that would be cool.
my childhood right here i never missed an episode
The Announcer is Johnny Gilbert
