The ULTIMATE Festive Drink - Alexander cocktail
When the name Alexander, a few things may come to your mind. Alexander the Great, Alexander Hamilton... But there's also Alexander the Drink! This is a classic cocktail that dates back to the early 1900s. Before the Brandy version, there also was the Gin version. Today we're going to make both versions and compare them, side by side.
Hard to confirm the origins of this drink, because there are a couple compelling stories. But the most plausible one was found by a historian, in the Philadelphia Inquirer from a publication on October 3rd, 1915. It states that a Head bartender “went as far as to create an Alexander cocktail.” This was in honor of Philadelphia pitcher Grover Cleveland Alexander for the 1915 World Series Philly vs Boston. Boston won that series.
Many people however link the cocktail to Troy Alexander. A bartender at a New York pre-Prohibition lobster restaurant called Rector’s. It is said that Mr. Troy created this cocktail for a dinner celebrating a successful advertising campaign. The ad campaign was Phoebe Snow and it ran for almost 70 years. She became one of the most recognized advertising mascots.
But Alexander was a favorite during the Prohibition era as the cream and nutmeg garnish helped disguise the rough taste of Homemade “Bathtub Gin”.

Because there are many ways on elevating your drink...

Army & Navy a SIMPLE Gin drink with Orgeat

    Be careful recommending cocktails that tastes of dirty and possibly poisonous roots. Fernet can be good in small quantities hidden behind other flavours as long as the flavour blends. Fernet coke is a bit on the right way but not really there. My bottle of Fernet will probably last five years and I like to drink.

    Just a note, that you should leave it out at room temperature for three days after bottling and then you should refrigerate it. Allowing it to stay out will create a lot more carbonation because putting it in the fridge right away will cause it to stop fermenting. That's why you didn't get a lot of bubbles when you opened it

    This is in my top 10 favourite cocktails! I love it and enjoy a Toronto cocktail whenever I remember to make one! I love using Canadian Rye which is superb, 100 Rye and sometimes I use Bulleit Bourbon but being in Vancouver I love accessing Canadian Rye! Lot 40 is my favourite - fabulous!! Fernet is a love of mine! Spectacular!! Ice is a big part of the cocktail for me. I make clear blocks of ice!! 🙂

    I am a huge Martini fan - bracingly cold, very dry (I wash the ice with Dry Vermouth and strain it out leaving only the slightest amount of Vermouth!!) and then expressing organic lemon spritz onto the Martini!! Sometimes I add 2 drops of good quality orange or grapefruit bitters! The grapefruit are actually very nice as I think they pair beautifully with the Gin! Loving the Martini so much makes me think I would really enjoy The Tuxedo Number 2!! It looks fabulous and oh so delicious!! I have never had one and I am definitely going to make one for friends and myself before dinner tonight! I even have all the ingredients! I love that you also enjoy St. George's spirits! They are amazing! Terrific video! Cheers!! 🙂

    • @yams02
      @yams02 Рік тому

      I think because typically when you make a drink in a shaker, the ice breaks up and dilutes the drink. But because there is no ice, there is no dilution. So the water is to compensate for that

    Watching this while enjoying Fortaleza Blanco. Fortaleza and El Tesoro are my two favorites, and I like Reposado a bit more but go for Blanco at times. I tried El Jimador and I found it to be a really harsh tequila and could not drink it, even tried it as a Paloma and that did not cover up the harsh flavor...

      El Jimador harsh? Comments like this is what makes it hard to decide whether to try this or not where some people say it’s easy in the palate and works great with margaritas and then I turn around and see opposing comments. As a newbie to the Margarita making scene it gets discouraging and confusing sometimes at not blowing a lot of money or knowing what to get.
