The last service at All Hallows was held in 1981.
The church was owned by the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. A lady called Alison Johnson bought the redundant church where her son is buried and turned it into an art gallery in his memory.
Her son, Sam, was killed in April 2000 in a car crash.
Sam, 19 years old, was buried in the cemetery of the picturesque All Hallows church, High Hoyland, which is near Bretton Park, home of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
When Mrs Johnson, of Denby Dale, near Huddersfield, was told the 16th century listed building was to be sold she put in an offer.
