    I set my Height map using your settings and it appears that initial map is a white square instead of a block square.

      When creating a new blank template there is a background option - the options are usually something along the lines of - black, white, 50% grey, or transparent. Regardless you can always just use the bucket tool after the fact.

    @9:56 : "Each voxel material needs to have a separate ID assigned to it, and then when this is edited in this map and loaded, that material will be put in that location." How do I know what ID I should assign? Can I just say: "40 is for desert or 60 is for forests"? And what color(s) do I use when I paint them in the red-channel of the MAT-Map? Where is the reference, that Space Engineer know that a certain color on the map is a certain ID in the .sbc-file?

    hi got no idea if you still check the comments here but worth a shot... im editing the Pertam.sbc as my template for planet mods do you have any idea what this parameter is supposed to do <Difficulty>DifficultyHard</Difficulty> it`s placed right after <Id> <TypeId>PlanetGeneratorDefinition</TypeId> <SubtypeId>Pertam</SubtypeId> </Id> and above <PlanetMaps Material="true" Ores="true" Biome="true" Occlusion="true"/> i`ll probably just leave it at default regardless but would be nice to know what it`s supposed to do.

      Its for marking difficulty when selecting the planet as a respawn/spawn point - Think the starting lander/pod you get when spawning on earthlike, moon, alien

    I've not had any luck getting Trees to stick to a certain slope. If I change the minimum slope to anything but 0 none will spawn at all. Maximum doesn't seem to affect anything at all.

    Did you do something special between video 2 and 4 to get the harsh and jagged lit planet surface to smoothly transition once you got into view or was that just playing with the fog settings?

      @@AllGoodAllEasy In part 3 about 12:47 as you approach the planet the surface of it becomes lit very suddenly with sharp edges, as if you've passed a farclip for the lighting. It becomes less noticeable after adding the cloud layer and much less noticeable in this one now but I suppose that's just due to the fog obscuring it if there wasn't anything else.

      @@Anuwabu If your talking about about the lighting then its a combo of fog and intensity with. As far as the planet geometry goes if you mean it goes from smooth to sharp/pointy/detailed - SE LOD's the surface to be smooth at a distance for performance reasons.

    i wish i understood this better. ive been trying to create my own planet for ages now. just out of interest, is it possible for you to assist or take a request for this planet since i cant seem to figure it out? I've already partially created heightmaps but due to my lack of software i have no way to make them look better or blend better (I've at least tried them out on the in game tutorial/example mod planet by replacing the files to some degree of success (ignoring where the maps join of course)) but aside from that ive had no other success in implementing it into its own separate celestial body, specifically because i think ive overcomplicated things in that i wanted to do moon style ore gen and full custom height and biome mapping. UPDATE: i am now on the SE discord and have made a couple posts about it recently in the Modding-Programing chat for SE PC, still struggling tho

    No matter what I do, my voxel textures are not black under the sun, they are always too bright. I try to make them lava black, but they just dont want to be that. Are the sun reflections tweakable?

      Sounds like you have a alpha channel or possible emissive issue, can't guess more without more information.

      @@AllGoodAllEasy i tried to make an own planet, but it isnt in the spawn menue. I copied the earthlike part in a new file, named MonkyPlanet.sbc and renamed the earthlike tag in the file in MonkyPlanet. I copied the heightmap folder, integraded the mod in my new game, but the Planet isnt there in the list

    So if just wanted to make just ore planets where the entire planet is just 1 type of ore I would just change the stone and soil values to a specific ore type right?

      Correct. Or you can edit the default surface material and underground values to said ore (sorry extremely late response)

    I am using GIMP and some dds files can be opened whereas others cannot. Ie i managed to open and modify a file for grass but the dds files for voxel cm seem to be different and cannot be opened with the gimp dds plugin - they also show no image on the file icon

      The files now also contain _ForAxisXZ_ in the name

      The GIMP DDS plugin is out of date and cannot be used, you must use a 3rd party converter to turn them into .tga to do your editing and then convert them back

      @@AllGoodAllEasy Thank you. The GIMP DDS plugin works on some textures such as grass though. I have tried to convert to .tga but only the files that could be opened in gimp got converted. Others gave and error.

I was just hoping you could explain how I would manage to get the PlanetTutorial.sbc to pull the models and textures it requires. So far I have it set up like this: Vanilla folders/files pathing - C:\Users\stone\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Mods\Tutorial Planet\Data\Models\Environment\Sky/Vanilla files C:\Users\stone\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Mods\Tutorial Planet\Data\Textures\Models\Environment\Sky/Vanilla files I've tried using the full path as above and also the default short pathing as below <CloudLayers> <CloudLayer> <!-- Far layer --> <Model>C:\Users\stone\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Mods\Tutorial Planet\Data\Models\Environment\Sky/CloudSphere.mwm</Model> <Textures> <Texture>C:\Users\stone\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Mods\Tutorial Planet\Data\Textures\Models\Environment\Sky/EarthFarClouds.dds</Texture> </Textures> It seems like it should be really easy to figure out though I've hit a wall. I'd be more than appreciative if you could explain what I need to do like I'm a 5 year old. I realize I'm not the only one who has asked about this, so I hope I'm not beating a dead horse. Nor do I expect you to make a video or anything but I'd be more than thankful if you could help me out with this. If I figure it out before you reply I'll let you know. And I'll also share what I did to fix it, for anyone else that may need an answer. Thanks a lot!

      So I went over to the Keen Software House Discord and was helped by someone who answered some of my questions. Turns out I had my Models and Textures folders inside the Tutorial Planets Data folder. Instead they need to be placed just inside the Tutorial Planet Folder next to the Data Folder. C:\Users\stone\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Mods\Tutorial Planet/Data C:\Users\stone\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Mods\Tutorial Planet\Models\Environment\Sky C:\Users\stone\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Mods\Tutorial Planet\Textures\Models\Environment\Sky Also I didn't need to manually add the file paths for these textures inside the Tutorial Planet.sbc. So just copying the CloudLayers from the PlanetGeneratorDefinitions.sbc and having the correct folder locations will work just fine. From what I've learned you'd only manually enter file paths for custom models or textures you create. Hopefully this will come in handy for anyone else.

    I've copy pasted the clouds definition code just like you did and even spawned in a new version of the planet but no clouds appeared at all. Do you know how I can fix this?

      Since this tutorial was made, you now have to add the cloud textures you want to your mod, just make the same file paths as vanilla and copy the files you need

    To confirm: I've tried negative gravity and it simply sets it to zero 0 and also messes up how the jetpack works

    It worked fine with one texture but as soon as I added two it kinda broke, if I add a new texture for the voxel it WILL use the one of the other voxel, I think it was because of a wrong path so to make sure I delete the files in the new one and nope, completely pink texture, I add the textures again and it uses the ones from the other voxel again, so I decide to take a texture from the mod "teralis" just to test something, paste it there and again it uses the texture of the other voxel on the other file, I basically can only use a single texture right now and I do not understand why it does this, the file paths are all set to the new voxel folder but it still uses the other one.

      All Heightmaps have to be greyscale or they will not work.

      no, using emissives you can make glowing voxels but thats it

    Alright I came across a problem that it looks like a lot of people had, where the planet would just become flat with any texturing but I looked into how the files were placed and that was the issue. the folder PlanetDataFiles should be placed inside the data file not outside if you don't do this the texturing wont work so you will get a smooth planet.

    I am trying to make a gas giant, which is almost entirely atmosphere. Is there a way to make the atmosphere more opaque, so that the sun doesn't shine through the entire planet? I can set the sun size to 0, but this doesn't entirely solve the problem.

      if you apply multiple cloud layers over each other and set the suns color to a blackish color or the color of your sky that should solve the problem.

    I just want to modify existing planets, lowering the density of some ores, or even deleting some others (for example uranium or platinum in starting planet). might you give me a hint to where start looking that in your videos? Ty!!

    I ran into a problem. I drew custom Heightmaps for the planet but the surface is still super smooth. I can link pictures of the heightmaps if you want, but I'm just confused on why this is happening.

      Thats probably because you didn't specify anything for voxels.

      Btw, what do you mean I didn't specify anything for voxels, I used one of your heightmaps and put 6 heightmaps saying "Up, Down, Left, Right, Front, Back" Could you please specify my issue, thanks

      Has nothing to do with heightmaps its your coding for the planet, you didnt specify any data values for voxels, and or if you did.... you did incorrectly.

    Any specific way of copying it? For some reason this doesn't work, I just copied it, pasted and nothing of it worked, no error, but also no clouds. I have restarted and placed a new planet. One thing to note tho is that everytime I copy something I have to put 2 spaces before every line of code, but even after doing that, no clouds show up.

      Your going to have to be more specific. Do you mean cloud data or something else?

      Doctor Octoganapus Oh sorry yhea I was talking about the cloud layers, they just don't show up.

      You must add the cloud textures to the mod, its a bug that happened when custom clouds were allowed.

      Ok, makes sense, can I just copy them and paste them in my Data folder or do I need to put them somewhere else?

      You have to put them where ever you have the file path set to

    Hey Doc, So I tried to build a hightmap and all of it worked just fine, but the only colors I used were white and black so I decided to put some gray into the mix, then suddenly when I thought everything looked pretty good I saved it and reloaded the space engineers world I was using, then it said invalid format bla bla bla something something "B8G8R8A8_UNorm needs to be R16 or R8_Unorm which is strange considering I was using grayscale...? Can you help me out? Or maybe tell me how to save it in R16 or R8 using Gimp?

      It looks like its just an error caused by the heightmap not being greyscale

      Doctor Octoganapus hmmm well I guess I'll just get Photoshop, probably will save me quite some trouble.

      You don't need photoshop for that, just copy it into a new greyscale project if theres an issue saving the existing one.

      Ok I now have an epic heightmap. The reason it didnt work before was because I added layers, as soon as I added layers I couldn't save to 8-bit anymore and instead it saved to 32-bit.
