We have way too many bounce back or get right games every year due to the philosophy from the head coach of not putting teams away in games. Every year there’s 1-2 absolutely unacceptable losses due to decisions from the top. I use to think weather man was a great job because you can be wrong and keep your job when in fact being the Iowa head coach is the greatest job because you can completely crap the bed regularly year after year with a great salary.

Cade is effective with quick, short passes to his primary target (i.e., basically, using the pass as part of the running game). On the other hand, Cade is very inconsistent with the longer timing passes. This is a problem when the team needs go play action and throw down the field to keep defenses honest, extend drives, hold on to the ball with the lead, etc. Iowa needs a LOT better QB play. It will make all the difference.

I can see why folks are upset but.. Im seeing improvement on offense…. 😁 Its only the 2nd game with a new offense/coordinator. Run game has opened up, rushing over 200 yards! Thats big ten player of the week numbers. This team is more fun to watch. Losing to a good team, early in the season isnt the end of the world. They can use this motivation.

I tink it's a serious time to discuss Kirk Ferentz being let go. Twenty five years n not even close to playing for any national championship or even in the the conversation. There comes a point where ya have no choice but to put your old horse out to pasture n ride a younger n fresher one, I believe Iowa has reached that moment. His conservative play calling has wasted great defenses n has held Iowa back to new n better things, this isn't 2002 anymore ya MUST have a competent passing game to be relevant n Iowa won't have one as long as he's the head coach.

My season hopes are still there, but only by a thread and only if Cyclones go to the Big 12 championship to make that loss look good. If we take care of business 9-3 still a chance but a very unlikely chance. We will lose to Ohio State and probably Nebraska.

Iowa State was keying on Lachey and bracketing him all game long. Iowa should have accepted that and gone elsewhere knowing they were committing 2 pass defenders to Lachey. But no! They had to keep forcing it!

Great point about Cade not running, and it’s one of the reasons why I think Sullivan gives us a better chance to win. At a minimum, Sullivan is willing and able to run and extend plays. This was one of the most frustrating games I’ve ever watched.

No they won’t. 2/3 of Cade’s TD passes were not precise or accurate at all. Two 50/50 balls that would have even broken up or picked off by Iowa state’s experienced secondary. Only reason Iowa will win if they do will be because Iowa state is banged up. Already two linebackers out, one defensive lineman, 2 offensive lineman, and that’s not even count ring Abu Sama leaving the game early last week with an ankle injury. Same with Bramer only playing one series last week. Iowa should win with all the inexperience of the Iowa state linebackers and DLs this week.

Love the second half effort, but let’s not forget the opponent. No disrespect against Illinois state. Our line is still very average and doesn’t handle blitzes very well. Let’s take a deep breath and see how the next two games play out. McNamara settled down in the second half and trusted his abilities finally.
