Heads Or Tails Motorhome Travels
Australia
Приєднався 31 жов 2022
We are travelling Australia in our tiny motorhome, come along for the ride from the start of our journey soon. We have never camped or owned a van of any kind before. It's all new to us, but how hard can it be, Ha Ha. We packed up the house, rented it out and are heading off for a year or two to explore this beautiful country. We love hiking, beaches, wine and cheese and good food in general, great restaurant experiences, golf, swimming and beautiful scenery.
Our channel does not have some of the usual content such as 4x4, fishing, towing caravans, getting bogged etcetera. Thats all good stuff, but not our thing. If you would like ideas about where to stay, eat and play we will provide feedback on all of the things that we do and provide some ratings for you along the way.
We hope you like what we have to share, the good the bad and awesome. We hope to provide some inspiration for others to get up and get out there, instead of just dreaming about it. If we can do it, so can you.

Hi, loving your travels, we are planning to get a motorhome and tow our little Mazda2 later this year. But in SA we're told we need an LR license as >5.2t, so was that the same in NSW and did you have do all the training, 15hrs CBT etc? Cheers
Hi there. Our motorhome only requires a normal license as its GVM does not exceed more than 4.5 tonnes. When we had the car engineered to tow, part of that included the engineer's certificate which ensures the total GVM is still within the requirement for a normal driver's license. Brian has a HR license anyway from previous work. Good luck with your decision, it will be worth it whichever way you decide to go.
Hi guys loving your content, one question, where did you get your towbar fitted? I have a 24-4 and a towbar company told me they couldn't fit one to mine as the chassis rails were too far back from the rear end
Hi, thanks for the message. We had our towbar fitted as a factory extra. We did remember hearing that to have it fitted after purchase might be tricky so we opted to have it as an extra when we ordered the MH. 😊
Hope you’ve had a wonderful Christmas and now here’s for a fantastic New Year 2025 travels🎉. We enjoy your videos. This particular one opened our eyes to the pup camping world! We are seriously considering purchasing a Jayco same as yours. I’d really appreciate if you could let me know what size of fitted sheet you use on your drop down bed and on the lutton mattress area as well please. We’ve learnt a lot from your walk arounds and chats about your Jayco. Thanking you, cheers Jen & Co 😃
Hi, thanks for the lovely message, we are glad you are enjoying our videos. We love the MS24-4 and with you good luck with your choice. We use a queen fitted sheet for both the beds, gives plenty of sheet to tuck under the mattress. We are also loving the pub camping and will mix and match for our next trip. regards Kerry and Brian
Seriously those eye lashes look ridiculous 👎
Wonderful way to remember your amazing year. Xx

Whoever is watching this, never give up. God is with you. Lovely ❤
I've loved following your travels in 2024 and will continue to watch in 2025. Loved this one, your bloopers made me laugh 😂😂
Thanks so much Ann-Marie, we are still having fun and really looking forward to seeing where 2025 takes us. Hope you guys are well. ❤️
Best wishes for 2025 , you both deserve a Happy ,Healthy ,fun filled 2025, thanks for the 2024 memories , just great to watch how much of Australia that you have visited, really loved the bloopers fantastic laugh 😂😂, take care and Thankyou , cheers Darrel 👍👏
Thanks so much Darrel, it was fun looking back at all the wonderful places we visited in 2024. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful country. There is so much more to see. Best wishes to you as well for 2025. 😊
How do you find the practicality of the drop-down east-west bed. Interested how you manage a toilet visit in the middle of the night? Is it big enough to sleep north south? We are think of getting a ms 24:4 I have concerns on the practicality of sleeping arrangements. Cheers
Hi, we find the drop-down bed pretty good. Its not long enough to sleep north south, Brian is 6.1 Feet tall and fits in well sleeping east-west. If you both need a toilet visit in the middle of the night you would be climbing over your partner. Lucky for us, we don't both need to do this. We sleep pretty well in the motorhome. Good luck with your choice.
Oh, go to Cahills Crossing. I would love to go there. I will follow you in 2025.
Thank you, we would love to go there and will add it to our list. 😊
Have loved watching your travels in 2024. Can’t wait to see your adventures in 2025!
Thank you. We look forward to being able to show everyone many more beautiful places.
How often do you have to unhook the swift on your travels Great videos very informative Thanks
Hi, we tend to unhook most places if we are staying more than one night. If we are just passing through we try and get a drive through site or camp somewhere that we can stay hooked up. It does not take very long to unhook, have it down to a fine art now. Thanks for the comment. Cheers.
I think I heard U say service every 2 years if thats the engine thats a problem my iveco is every year or 50,000.00 km & if I were to do the 50,000.00km between services I would be 🧠☠ so I will B servicing the engine every 10,000.00 km the roof beds R 💩 U have to make them up every time I have the 26.1 fixed bed @ the back great 😎
Hi thanks for the comment, we are taking our MH for the first Merc service next week. Mercedes says 2 years but we definitely don't want to wait that long. Better to be safe. The fixed bed would be amazing. One day we might look at that, we looked at the 26.1 and really liked it.
Great review guys. Really nice Motorhome. The Merc looks like a really nice upgrade from the Renault. I wish our little 20.5 had come in rear wheel drive, and a bit more cupboard space would be nice too. See you out on the road one day. Dennis 😃👍
Thanks Dennis. Yes the 20-5 could certainly do with more storage. Welcome home, you look like you have been having a great adventure 😊
@ Yes mate. Deb & I just completed an 800km hike across Spain over 1 month. Looking forward to some Motorhome trips now. Deb retiring in July 25 & I’ll start chewing up my long service before leaving too. Hoping to follow yours & Kerrys lead with the MH trips. See you out on the road one day 😃👍
Your trip sounds amazing. Walking that far is just outstanding. Enjoy the MH trips now.
@ Sure will. Were a bit worn out after that 800km hike across Spain. Heading up to the Sunshine Coast in the MH this January for a couple of weeks. Also just pencilled in a 3 month trip over to WA next year. Semi retirement starts shortly. Planning to use a lot of my LSL over the next 3 years then retiring permanently from the firies after that. Looking forward to living the life you two do. Dennis & Debbie. 😃👩
Great to see you both, what a great idea camping at country pubs, thanks so much for sharing, I know I have said it before to you but the detail and information you give us from your visits is 1st class, cafes, eateries, walks ,caravan parks ,points of interest and now pub camping is first class, just brilliant. Love the new carpet runner on the floor, the fan is great to circulate the air, the Motorhome is awesome, safe happy travels keep flipping the coin 😂 cheers Darrel 👏👍
Thankyou Darrel, glad you liked the country pub camping. We had fun making it. There are so many great pubs out there to visit. 😊
Great to see you back. Any chance you could include info re pet friendly places that you stay at.
Hi, yes we sure can. I do try and mention pet friendly when I remember. All the pubs were pet friendly, how amazing is that. 😊
Thanks for the video. Looks like we will miss you when you come through Canberra. We are finally heading off on our trip in a couple of days. Perhaps we will see you somewhere on the road at some stage.
Sorry we will miss you. How exciting that you are heading off. Where are you travelling to? Have a wonderful time.
We’re doing a quick to trip to see family in southern WA, then heading back for 3 months in Tassie. Perhaps we will catch up somewhere along the road.
Sounds amazing. Have fun@@celiairving6673
Hi we found that supporting country pubs great but when they say its free camping time you buy a couple of meals plus drink it can turn out to be more expensive than staying in a caravan park maybe it's just us.
You are right, it can be more expensive than a caravan park. We enjoyed not cooking for a few days.
did you meet the Trip 4 2 Australia guys at Denman?! funny how you both were there in eps this week!
Hi, no we didn't meet them. It was very quiet there when we were there.
Gosh I think you do a great job filming. I like seeing your life in the motorhome and where you go, it’s part of the appeal seeing both. I find it boring if I’m just seeing a tourism advert. It’s nice to have a personal touch 😊
Thank you, and thanks for your regular comments. We love that involvement from other travellers from our little UA-cam community.
I don’t mind your videos but can you please film more of your surroundings and less of yourselves. You film yourself as you are walking into a venue instead of showing the venue. Less of you please and more of where you are travelling to and more of the places and amenities available.
Thanks for your comment. We don't have microphones at the moment so the sound is not great if we talk to the back of the camera. Good news, we have ordered some microphones for future use.
Staying at Denman tonight, food at pub is sensational!
We loved the food as well, absolutely sensational.
Hey, I am the first to like this.
Thank you so much 😊
Extremely expensive areas, they wrought everyone. Even the locals just cop it.
Hi guys. Can you recommend some websites you use for checking where camp grounds are & availability of sites, and do you have a favoured road/map site or prefer good old fashioned maps?
Just wondering how you got on with Lippert screen. Ours resets itself, turns off, we've had to disconnect earth to battery to reset it, very unreliable. It's going to have to go back for a warranty claim.
Hi, we finally had the lippert screen fixed back at Jayco Service Centre. It needed a 1.1.3 upgrade. We also needed someone that knew what they were doing as the service center had completed the same upgrade a few months ago but had not done it correctly. Its working fine now. Good luck with yours.
Jayco Syd have a 2023 model now for sale, apparently this model is no longer on the production line. Is yours a 2023. Would you buy one thats been sitting on the lot for 18 months. One for sale is a V6
Hi, that's interesting that you say the model is no longer on the production line, its still advertised on the Jayco website as an option. Ours is the 2023 model with the new 2 ltr turbo diesel motor. Our understanding with the V6 engine is that Merc were not making these from 2023 onwards. Google the V6 Mercedes Sprinter information and it says they stopped making them and were not available in the 2023 models. Maybe that motorhome has a 2022 chassis. Not sure if we would buy one that's been sitting for that long, probably not anything wrong with that but would want to know more about the age of the chassis. Good luck with your choice.
@ Watsons Coffs didn’t recommend it. They confirmed today definitely no longer being made. New model aug 25. Pushing the fiat’s.
Stayed at The Queenscliff Hotel in the early 90’s - used to be a very fancy restaurant called Miettas (interesting story about Mietta) Do you go to Swan Island?
Hi, the Queenscliff Hotel was lovely. No we did not get to Swan Island.
Hey guys, Just s question on the 2ltr motor on your motorhome, how is it for power, do you have any issues with overtaking. We're not sure if where going for the mech or the iveco.
Hi, we love the Merc, we are away at the moment (not towing the car) and we have been doing some windy, hilly roads and the Merc performs very well. No problem overtaking. When we tow the car its a bit different obviously but still no problem with power.
Can you not leave the bed made up while it’s in the up/roof day position?
Hi, the bed does not like having anything too think left on it, such as a blanket or doona. The sensor will not reach all the way to the top when the bed goes up if you have thick blankets on it and then it gets stuck, we blew two fuses trying to work out if we could put a mattress topper on the bed. We just leave the sheets on to be safe.
Thanks for the reply. We’re in early days narrowing down what we want and need in a motorhome so Thankyou. Thinking with my 6ft2” hubby he’ll be too tall for the lounge area with the bed up and it might be a pain to get in and out of the bed during the night so thinking we will look more at an island bed. We’re overseas travelling for 3 years and looking to buy a motorhome on our return to travel around Australia. Thank goodness for you tube and blogs, very helpful indeed. Happy travels guys. We’ve subscribed as enjoy your videos 😊
Hi guys, we love your UA-cam videos. We’ve got a Bluetti ac180 and a 120 watt solar panel blanket a few months ago. We find the Bluetti fantastic, the 120 watt solar panel is a bit small but we plan for it and it’s not need a problem. You can also charge the Bluetti while you are driving. They are robust units and very useful. We use ours for our coffee machine, sandwich toaster, kettle, air fryer etc basically anything that requires 240 volts, anywhere we are at.
Thanks for the comment, i think we will go with the Bluetti, it sounds like it will suit our needs.
☀️🇦🇺
😊
I grew up at south west rocks. Down near back creek. Family still live there
Great place to visit and also to live I imagine.
Great, loved that area. The Farm was great for our Tamaruke picnic ❤
The Farm is a great spot for a picnic, we loved it too!
Gorgeous places x
We agree! It's one of our favorite spots.
Add some more solar to your motorhome and add lithium batteries and a decent dc dc charger separate to the solar MPPT. We recently went 4 days in raining and overcast off grid with no problems. We dave a 12volt compressor fridge.
Hi thanks for the info. We do have two lithium batteries and two solar panels. We can be off grid for a few days if not longer in sunny weather, not sure if was overcast the whole time though as we have not had that scenario yet. We really want to be able to have power for the laptop, starlink, coffee machine etc so might look into the power banks.
Always go to the pub at least once when staying at SWR. Always a good feed.
We had a great feed there and an awesome margarita. 😊
Beautiful. I've been meaning to ask, Kerri where did you get your hat from ?
Hi, i purchased my hat from the local supermarket in Scotts Head. I have looked it up online for a few other subscribers who have asked. The brand is Kooringal and you can buy them online. I have seen a few of their hats at surf shops etc but not the same yellow one which is called a women's floppy - bay.
We use to go to SWR every year and we would go to the Bay at the Goal and swim every day. Youvare spot on its a beautiful place.
One of our new favorite places, right on the water there in the non-powered section. We plan to go back as often as we can. 😊
I absolutely love that park and yes it is dog friendly.
Gorgeous place isn't it, good that you can also take your dogs. I didn't see any which was unusual, although i thought i heard one. We usually see lots of dogs when the park is dog friendly. Must have not been too many people with pets at the time, it was school holidays.
I tech 3600 w 300 ah power bank is awesome . You can plug in through your mains socket and run aircon etc . . It sits in the drivers foot well so i can plug it in to the mains cable and into the 240v socket outside. The beauty of the i tech is you can charge and discharge at the same time . This is a feature they have . This is important because if you are using off grid you have to be able to recharge a massive power bank and the 400w of solar just wont cut it so it can be counter intuitive. Ps . Darlington is dog friendly 👍🏻👍🏻
Hi, great information, thank you we will look at the I Tech. I realised after that Darlington is dog friendly and meant to put up a title in the video. Thanks for letting other know, it's such a beautiful place.
Just watched your latest video. The Lifestyle Pioneers did a review on the Bluetti on their UTube Channel - link below. Pretty sure they also have a discount code for Bluetti. They've done another review on the later one but I couldn't find it quickly for you. ua-cam.com/video/qk6Gpjmk5z0/v-deo.htmlsi=L-cr-v-8vnKq_0Dz
You will love the unpowered sites. Even better are the free camps. So much more room and you can find some real jems. We have just finished making our Jimny into a Solar, Starlink, DC to DC charged setup which hopefully allows us to have starlink wherever we go, powered by the sun or by driving. We have a bluetti E3BA but the capacity is not great. It works for the washing machine and for some lighting outside but that is about all. I would strongly recommend to go bigger than you think as far as powerbanks go. Good luck with your next big trip. Sounds really good. Let us know what you end up with.
Hi, thanks for the info. We will definitely start investigating what type of power bank we need. It would be nice to run the coffee machine, lol much needed coffee in the mornings. We have loved the free camps we have found so far and intend to do a lot more. Often when we are paying for a powered site i think what are paying for this for. Lots to consider, thank you.
Thank you both so much for your fantastic videos, we are picking our ms24.4 up in a couple of weeks and your tips are really great, maybe see you on the road once we’re up and about 👍😊
Hi, how exciting for you, we hope you love the MS24-4 as much as we do. It really is such a great way to be out there exploring. Thanks for the comment and we are glad we have been of assistance.
Thanks guys for all your videos we have really enjoyed them. We have used your content in selecting a motorhome with the great advice and maybe catch up somewhere on the road in the future?
Hi, thanks for the message, that is fantastic, hope you have so much fun out there in the motorhome you have selected. Safe travels.
Please do not put on a spinning effect as that will make people with some diseases very sick
thanks for the info, will take that onboard when Brian makes the videos.
Did your caravan come from Heatherbrae?
HI, yes Heatherbrae is where we purchased our MH.
