I was in a sauna in a hotel for the first time yesterday. Alternating between sauna and a cold shower just felt right. An hour flew away and I still feel so good. Though, I'm low-key sad that I've waited till 44. I have a feeling that my last 10 years of hardship would be much easier to handle with the regular use if sauna

@@Beno-pi1up Interesting, I've never tried any of those, so I'm hesitant to recommend them. I'd look for independent reviews and pay attention to things like heater, airflow, seat height, and wood type. (If they all use Harvia, then that box is ticked :))

That’s not true universally. Maybe in a sauna with an electric heater, however, in a sauna with a wood fired heater that would be way too hot.

This video is quite informative but in my opinion overlooks few thing. I'm finnish architectstudent and have designed planty of saunas. Here is something that came to mind when watching the video: The ceiling height of a sauna is usually 2200-2500 millimeters. The height between the seating level and the interior ceiling is 1050-1300 millimeters. Traditionally, the height of the sauna and the vertical dimensions of the benches are determined by the height of the sauna heater's stone surface, as the goal is for the person sitting on the bench to be higher than the sauna stones, including their feet. The heater can also be placed higher than the level intended for feet, in which case the seating surface must be wide enough to allow the feet to be lifted up, or a separate railing can be built in the sauna on which the feet can rest. An oversized heater in terms of heating power can help keep a relatively small space warm even below the level of the stones, but in this situation, the feet cannot enjoy the steam. A common issue with Finnish saunas is that Finns have many different opinions on what makes a good sauna and good steam. The most important aspect of a sauna is the quality of the steam, which can be influenced by the size of the heater, air circulation, and the shape of the sauna room. Saunas are often also used for cleansing, so a good sauna should also have washing and dressing facilities. I am no means master builder nor designer with great experiense. Message that I want to deliver is that there is many ways to build and use saunas and it is form of art.
I love your message. I think that tent saunas are a perfect example of how simple but effective saunas can be. Regarding the “feet at rock level”, I agree that this is ideal, however you basically need a building as tall as a cathedral, which is not the case even in most saunas in Finland. The löyly here in Far North Queensland is excellent due to the humidity of the tropics especially during the wet season. Thanks for your message!

In a good sauna, the surface of the lower benches should be at the same level as the stones in the sauna. Good ventilation is an essential part of a good sauna experience. Is it sufficient in your sauna?
Did you watch the video? :) The ventilation is excellent, there is a gap between the floor and the walls surrounding the entire building. Secondly, "in a good sauna, the lower benches should be at the same level as the stones of the sauna" might work if you have a room the height of a cathedral. Having been in dozens of great saunas in Finland, more often than not, this is not the case.
@@coachpyry I have build several saunas in my life and noticed that sauna must be big enough, have to had good ventilation, benches have to be high enough, toes higher than kiuas stones and you have to use whisk. All my saunas haven't been like cathedral. Also the amount of stones must be at least 80 - 100 kilograms. There should also be a nice cooling area and a lake or hot tub nearby. Of course, you can compromise on something if you don't strive for perfection.
Your mouth lines have actually decreased. From the first video you did two years ago, there's significantly less mouth lines as you talk. The picture where you smile as well.

Hi, I have been doing sauna for maybe 22 years but only now I have mastered the way, I love your explanation, I have a question, why don't you have like a cold tub or something to dip after or a cold shower after? I regurlaly do it at the gym ist's about 100º C most of the time so its pretty hot, I use a product my father brought from Germany that's China Oel (Peppermint Oil) and use it on the rocks for opening up the sinus. But don't you feel the cold water is a faster way to get your heart rate down and your bloodpressure down so you can go again?

It feels amazing, and you’re on the money - it allows you to go back to the sauna again to enjoy more löyly 😌 Do you throw löyly?
@@coachpyry Yes, our sauna works really well but the floor sometimes retains a bit water because its opening the door a lot of times a day, sometimes I open the door and ventilate a bit of air just to drop more water to bring the loyly up, and on the higher bench because it has 2, it's really hot and after the initial hotness when it stabilizes it's imensly pleaserful. I want to open a chain of Sauna Clubs here, I'm really curious about Vihta since I never felt it, it's on my to do list pretty soon :D

I’m not in a position to build a proper sauna yet as I constantly move so the tents are more practical. Got one recently, with a wood stove and heats up to 100 degrees. Think it’s BS or more or less will do the job?

yeah....that's how hypertrophy works. no magick to it. Just some common sense.
Well, the thing is that runners benefit from hypertrophy to a point. After that certain point, which is hard to define, muscle mass becomes a hindrance. Strength, however, will never be a hindrance. You can lift weights to develop strength without the hypertrophy.
My tongue makes suction on the middle hard palate and my chin doesn't stick proper but when i stick back third of my tongue first i don't feel my tongue touching the middle palate but chin goes inside proper!! After swallow my tongue posture get distracted i just keep adjusting my tongue all the day I'm not getting it easily🤷🏻♀️
Sounds like you would benefit from a myofunctional training program that builds tongue strength, awareness and skill and teaches you the proper posture and removes the guesswork. Would you be keen to try a program like that with thorough video demonstrations for each skill?

If you want to go with Finnish sauna. You should have air inlet below heater and outlet opposite side of sauna on wall quite high up.. When sauna is heating fresh cold air rises from inlet and spreads around sauna! Also if it's wooden heater it needs fresh air also, so it won't suck air that you are breathing.. You can have adjustable cover over outlet, but probably should not close it all the way.. As fresh air flow it really important for good sauna experience! When you throw Löyly, always some water seeps through heater to floor. So it's recommended to have a floor drain. Also you should clean "lauteet" the wooden platform you sit on, quite often. Depending how often you use sauna (weekly to monthly). Best practice would be to spray water over them after every use, as sauna is still warm they will dry quite fast. There are product made for cleaning saunas, as they don't use harmful chemicals which later evaporates into the breathing. As for spray water over "lauteet", it's mainly to wash out sweat which will make them last longer.
As for actual use of sauna, stay in as long as it feels good, then go outside to cool down. For us Finns it's quite common to go back and fort between sauna and lake to swim (summer or frozen hole in lake or sea). If there is no lake/sea near by just sit outside and cool down and then go back in. Some of us like to drink water while inside and outside of sauna, as it will make you last longer (quite recommended). Quite often that water is beer, especially when sauna:ing with a group of friends. Some might say it's not recommended drink beer while using sauna. IF it would be catastrophically bad, Finns would have gone extinct, as common it is.
Actually we have an air inlet all over the sauna because there is a 2cm gap between the wall and the floors. There is also an outlet on the opposite corner from the heater. This works amazingly well here in the tropics, where the temperatures rarely go below 15 degrees celsius. The tropical humidity makes the löyly incredibly pleasant
Can someone explain something to me? How do you know if you’re mewing? To me my tongue feels like it’s touching the roof of my mouth at all times anyway? But it’s not actively pressing against it, it just naturally sits there, is this mewing? Or does it need to be putting active force into the roof of my mouth, as opposed to just touching? Another thing, if I do actively press my tongue into the roof of my mouth, I see absolutely no difference in face shape, so really not sure what’s going on. Lots of questions.
Great questions! 1. Mewing is nothing but holding your tongue in it's optimal resting posture. 2. It's not a push. It's carpeting the entire surface of the roof of the mouth with suction. 3. If you are an adult you will experience minimal changes in your aesthetics with better tongue posture if your tongue posture was already good. However, if your tongue posture is bad, your jaw definition will improve instantaneously when you figure out how to elevate the posterior third of your tongue. Do you think you can do that?
The pictures are identical. Its the angels aren't. Mewing might make a difference but for you it seems your face is already Chad. The xray on left is pointed down. The xray on right is pointed up. Of course the bones moved. 😂😂😂 you moved in difference xray scans.

Mewing is about moving the lower jaw forward and you did exactly that. You are looking way better.
Many "mewers" talk about growing the maxilla.
There is a very good change visible in the position of the lower jaw.

Here are two things you can try: 1. Hold a broomstick or a post in the gym for support as you build strength and stability 2. Start with a split squat variation where both legs are on the ground. Do this for 4-6 weeks and then try Bulgarians again.
Start with kickstand squats. Once you have mastered those, move on to regular split squats, then Bulgarian Split Squats. I had the same issue.

I agree that metabolic flexibility is super important. However, your ability to use fat for fuel depends more on your aerobic fitness, and yes, mitochondrial health, size and density is a key players in this. Here is how it works: You will produce energy mostly aerobically from fat with the presence of oxygen during low-intensity exercise. However, once you cross your aerobic threshold during exercise, your body will start relying more and more on anerobic metabolism to produce energy, which relies on glucose for fuel. At that point, you have two options: 1. Consume carb gels and keep performing at a high level. 2. Don't consume carb gels. Instead, allow your body to break down muscle tissue and convert it to glucose via gluconeogenesis, which is highly ineffective. You will feel like shit, and your performance will tank. I'm interested in getting better at trail running, so I choose the first option. Sauna-loving Finn in Australia! We're a rare breed! Whereabouts do you live?
The exercise that I too have a love hate relationship with. I’ve learned to respect this exercise because it truly does an awesome job at stimulus to fatigue ratio. Two sets of this exercise pushed within three reps of failure and through a full range of motion has my glutes sore for days!
Awesome! That's exactly right. High stimulus without crushing the rest of your body with tons of external load like during back squats for instance.
I absolutely despise this exercise. You need to focus on your balance and it takes away from the weight you should be able to do with this exercise to grow. So many better leg exercises such as squats, leg extensions, lunges etc. if your trying to do this you might as well just lunge.
Yes, Bulgarian split squats are hard. Hard is good 😁
For hypertrophy perhaps not the bes but great for athletes

@@coachpyry yeah i am, live in perth but materials will be similar to qld, more similar than to finland at least haha Im trying to read/watch content from the Scandinavians etc as it seems a lot of stuff is wrong compared to what you guys have to say! Apart from the ventilation, seat height, head room, speccing the right size heater- are there any other obscure things to consider(apart from the method of building)?

Remember to check that your woodtype us safe for high temperatures.For example Pine with high resin content - Can release respiratory irritants and strong odors when heated.
Currently designing my own sauna, unfortunately it must be electric. Do you know some of the electric saunas that are close to the wood burning sauna löyly as you mentioned in your video? Before watching this I was thinking a Harvia KIP 6KW heater for a 6m3 sauna but would be open to suggestions if you had any. Excellent video btw, thanks!
Glad to hear you enjoyed the video! I'm sure any Harvia heater will do a good job. Do you have much experience from using saunas? I like the löyly pretty strong, so I would probably get a heater with a little more horsepower, such as the smallest Cilindro model (6m3-10m3). Those models with more rocks will produce a very nice and humid löyly.
@@coachpyry I've been using the saunas in public gyms regularly for 15 years or more but here in Ireland the heater tends to have few rocks as löyly isn't really a thing. Our sauna culture isn't as developed as it is in Finland unfortunately, for example if you went into the sauna without swimwear here you would be banned for life 😆 (hence the need for my own sauna). Thanks for the suggestion, my local Harvia dealer recommended the Harvia Glow Corner 6.8KW heater with 50kg of stones. I will also enquire about the Cilindro model, thanks a million!

Finnish sauna manufacturers have guides to decide which size of heater you need by m3 of your sauna size.
@@Xydroos Yep. Personally, I recommend erring on the side of more horsepower. That way, if it gets too hot, you can always reduce the heat as needed, but you can't make a room hotter if the heater isn't strong enough for the size of the room.
