      I committed too much trying to gun him head on, so my I lost a bit of speed, and the angle of the merge wasn't great because of me taking the shot. So I tried to go vertical to hopefully get him to lose eyes on me, but he followed me up, and I wasn't at a great position energy and speed wise if I wanted to continue the fight. Going vertical did give me the option to dive extend and then recommit, which is always a good tactic if you plane is faster then your opponents, and you can get enough separation.

    So when you're talking about "kilograms of fuel," are you just reading the number off the fuel gauge and/or totalizer? Because the fuel indicators of the Mirage F1 read in L, not kg. For reference, JP-1 is 0.79kg/L. Additionally, the analog gauge to the left of the totalizer reads both feeder tank levels and needs to be doubled, because there are two needles right on top of each other. (barring incredibly rare battle damage and/or asymmetric burn, but then the needles separate) The first fuel state I was able to read at 1:17 was just under 2x 700L, for a weight of ~1100kg. Then right at the end (4:17 conveniently enough) your fuel warning popped on, which happens at 250L or less in one feeder tank, meaning 500L total, a weight of 400kg / 880lbs. 700kg burned across 3 minutes, so just under 2 minutes of full-burner playtime left. How often do you die to running out of fuel and/or catching a missile when you have no choice but to try and run in mil power? I'm used to bingo being 2000lbs or more on jets that thirsty, and have usually been heading home at ~1000L or more to make sure I actually have the gas to reach an airfield when I run at full burner. EDIT: Accidentally doubled the starting fuel amount, that would change the numbers just *slightly*. Interesting tips overall though, and definitely provides some insight on why I've struggled with BFM in the Mirage. I'm definitely pulling too hard too early and bleeding off my speed, leading me to get in a worse energy state than my opponent and die.

      It's liters that i'm referencing your right. I get it mixed up from the mirage 2000 which is in kilograms, so i sometimes forget when referencing between the two. Usually if I end a fight with 700-600 liters I can burn away to about to 300-250 liters remaining which puts me deep enough back in friendly lines that i'm either at friendly air defence or pursuers have broken off. I'd say 1 in 20 someone catches me up if they weren't already on top of me when the fight ended, but i'll try to break off if a contact shows up within 15nm and there are no friendlies around. Deadstick landings are not uncommon for me however.

    intresting quirk of the 75 when used for A2A, no fov or gimbal limit modeld in game after launch, if you (the target) manage to outmanuver it (not particularly hard if you notice it) and it overshoots, dont think youre safe; no matter where you are in the relation to the 75, its still tracking and slowly but surely turning its nose back onto you. (discorvered this after playing ballet with a friends 75 for minutes; after he tried to pull a quick one on me)

      Lol. Do you know the number of Hellfire Missiles that cost a quarter of a million dollars each that were used on even "plausible" 2 man mortor teams in Iraq & Afghanistan? Those 2 man teams that cost maybe $2000.00 to fund for a month, if that. Hint: The number is significantly larger then 0. Also the AJS viggen doesn't have internal guns, and I didn't bring gun pods, and I already used all normal air to air missiles, so you use what you got. I mean in Iraq a CF-18 hornet tried and failed to hit a ship with an air to air AIM 7 Sparrow, because they had no conventional bombs or anti ship weapons. Real life is often stranger then fiction in the right circumstances

    • @crazygmanssimstuff
      @crazygmanssimstuff Рік тому

      So some of engimas dogfight videos are good to follow, as it will go over various tactics. Fortunately the cold war aircaft are all similar enough that effective tactics translates well over multiple airframes. In the end though any sort or multiplayer playing I find really justs gets better with going on and finding out what works and what doesn't, an important tip that I give people is try to have good expectations. Your goal as a fighter is to go up and kill "1" aircraft and make it home, anything else is just extra. Most of my sorties still rarely go over 2-3 kills. The other thing is make sure you have you aircraft setup well. While it might be tempting to carry 6 missiles in the MiG-21 you ability to effectively use them are greatly reduced due to the penalties you put on the airframe and i find having less missiles makes you more likely to take better more effective shots. Tips I have are keep a reasonable loadout, don't dogfight untill you've burned off some internal fuel (hit and run and going after targets that are not aware of you is fine before that). There are also times to be fast and there are times to be slow. Coming in full tilt trying to save a buddy, often will result in overshooting, it's much better to take 5 or 6 seconds more to properly slow down and get in a good attack position. Learn to know when you need to have full burner, and when you need to slow down. Watch videos of cold war fights and take notices of things, especially listening, for when the plane is throttling up or down, or when you hear airbrakes being deployed.

    • @RYVENANT
      @RYVENANT Рік тому

      @@crazygmanssimstuff thanks for the tips, I've been doing much better fighting wise. I'm loving the mig, next to the F-14 this thing is definitely becoming a new favorite plane. Fighting is fun in this thing, feels like actually hurling a tin can through the sky. The main thing I need to learn/excel in is fuel mgmt. I think I'm a bit too liberal with the throttle and always run out of fuel super fast.

    • @crazygmanssimstuff
      @crazygmanssimstuff Рік тому

      @RYVENANT i mean one way to conserve fuel is to get to around 8000 meters and cruise up there. Once you start fighting though you can't really conserve fuel, but try to exit any fight once you get to around 600L (900L if you need to use burner to get away. Once you safe climb to higher alt and then sip fuel by pulling back to 90% or even 80% RPM. This is also the reason why I don't suggest you take a ton of missiles. Thee MiG-21Bis is designed really for 1 serious engagement. Once you get more experience and can get better at clearing enemies fast, you can move to multiple engagements.
