Western Basin Treasure Chest Fishing ... 50 plus fish a Day!
If you have never fished the Western Basin of Lake Erie around the islands you are missing out. We take friends and family out there to bend the rods all day long with 50 plus fish most days ranging for Walleye, Smallmouth, Largemouth, White Bass, Yellow perch, Catfish, and Drum (Sheephead).
We troll the 15 foot mark around the islands with smaller Flicker Shad Rapalas and worm harnesses and can usually can keep the rods bent all day and everyone guessing what is hooked.
We call it Treasure Chest Fishing because we just never know what is going to come to the boat!
This is just a sampling on what one day can look like. While a lot of the big walleye move East in the deep part of the summer there are still some around and always in the mix of what we catch.

Harnesses were the ticket in the Walleye Tournament for us on Erie!
Переглядів 65421 день тому
Worm Harnesses caught 3 of the 5 big fish that we weighed in for the Lorain Harbor Boat Club annual Tournament in July. Normally we don't use spinning rods or worm harnesses, but the fish were parked at 40 Feet with the bottom at 50 feet. I put out one red and gold worm harness on a 2 Oz bottom bouncer with another 2oz clipped on at 50 Feet back to get it down. We trolled at 2 mph which is fast...
How bad the boat gets after a walleye tournament... Can you relate?

The boat get so messed up from tournaments... I can obsess over cleaning things... but when I fish tournaments that all goes out the window when we passionately chase walleye. When I get home and face reality... This is what needs to be done to get ready for the next trip! Can you relate? #Boating #cleaning #fishing #timelapse #lundboats

    You have proved nothing to that theory . You`re connecting the leader to a metal rod connected to a plastic case with a mic in it which will pick up any kind of vibrations making it sound horrible under drag from a fish . You have shown no research to what is happening with out a camera attached. I`m not convinced at all .

      No offense taken. Seclusion is great. We are definitely not a charter. We are just private fisherman who really do enjoy the lake. I used to stand on the front of my boat and cast for hours a day and now I’ve come to enjoy trolling and the science of it, and getting the lures at the right depth to catch the fish it’s become somewhat of a passion to understand how all that works together to catch a big fish. Hope you have a great rest of the summer.

    Just a thought, but it seems to me that the angle of the camera may be altered just a bit when not running true (when dragging a fish) causing the water to flow over the microphone pick-up at a slightly different angle, which may be causing the loud noise that we can hear on audio, but not necessarily a noise that is transmitted into the water column

    • @DirschOnTheWater
      @DirschOnTheWater 27 днів тому

      Yeah good thought … another gentlemen mentioned that idea and we will test it some more coming up the audio mainly comes from the line tension from what we can tell slicing through the water like a guitar string. One thing is for sure… the commotion of a fish being hooked is all fish and lure and line. That we know does not help on fish like sheephead left in the water. I huge question still remains about distressed fish and if they emit anything. That other fish pic up on. Fun stuff to sort through and analyze. Thanks for watching and commenting. • @DirschOnTheWater
      @DirschOnTheWater 27 днів тому

      @@livebig247 we attach it to a swivel at the end of braided line coming from the reel. On the end of the camera there is an eyelet we put another pin and swivel and tie a 3 foot mono leader that is lighter than the braid. If the lure gets hooked on the bottom( which has happened ) we want the mono leader to break…. Not the braid. Camera is a couple hundred dollars and that would get expensive on a regular basis. We only use this camera on a spinning reel for now to be nimble with it and quick if we have a problem we can open the bail and maneuver to the camera. In deep water it is a no issue unless you are dropping down 50 feet.

      I have done that push through 4 other times. This one the hook was partially in the bone and not enough hook to grip for the ER doc which was the mistake I made clipping it off so quick to get the fish away from flopping and doing more damage. I have sat back and quarterbacked others and said just push it through… it wish that was the case this time. 🤦🏻‍♂️ dumb mistake in my part. Hope you have a great summer!
