There isn't any funding for homeschooling in Virginia that I’m aware of. And it won't be a problem to start in November. You can begin homeschooling at any time. You'll just need to notify the superintendent of your area once you've moved in and then I think you have 30 days from then to submit the required papers. Hey! Yea, that’s definitely a downside of having to do standardized testing. As homeschool moms we don’t know what’s on the test and we definitely aren’t teaching our kids just so they can pass a standardized test! However, the law in Virginia states that they just need a composite score in Math and Language arts that’s above the 23rd percentile. This is an easy score for most kids to achieve! I never stress the results of the test, because I know it’s not a reflection of what my kids learned that past year, it’s just satisfying the law.

Hey! You're definitely right! Did I say spiral in the video? If so, I misspoke. It does have some review built in though with the skills check pages that's included in the book and also the extra skills practice that's encouraged for you to do with their practice pages on their website. (or any other fun ways to practice previously learned skills!)

I didn't purchase any of the phonics games. They had some game ideas in the back of the teacher book and I would use a few of them occasionally. I felt like many of the ones in the back were geared more towards classroom or using with multiple students, but some were great for just one! Off the top of my head I think we did the Around the World and Leap Frog one from the back of the book.

I preferred the Total Language Plus books. I felt like they offered a more robust language arts education that included vocabulary, spelling, and writing exercises. Memoria Press was pretty much JUST a study guide for the novel. Almost all of the writing activities were copying passages from the book. My daughter liked the Memoria Press one better, but I think that's because it was overall less work (she was doing another Language Arts book as well so TLP + her grammar bool may have been too much.) I think it depends on what you're looking for! I also really loved the classic starts lapbook for novel study, but it doesn't offer any actual grammar teachings.

The one I’m trying for this year is just a random planner I found at TJMaxx. It is basically just a notebook with the date written at the top of each page. So far I have only been homeschooling 1 kiddo and I liked the boxes on yours for each subject area. This year I am adding in my 2nd kiddo and I couldn’t figure out how to use the boxes anymore. 😅

You just can’t beat the price for the quality/content, in my opinion!

There really are so many to choose from! I’m tempted every year to spend big bucks on a fancy one, but in the end decide just to spend $10 on this one! 😂

Its really just the concept of writing down what you've accomplished after the fact instead of writing down everything you want to do for the week or month before you actually do them. Its a way to see what you've done instead of seeing undone things in your planner. (its very helpful for people that like to see all the boxes checked off and get frustrated by things left undone!)

They can do the lessons independently! There were a few lessons where there was a game as the opening activity that could either be done with the parent or another sibling, but for the most part it is pretty open and go for the student to use on their own!

@@pillarsandpress Very sad that American society has come to that. I'm not a parent but I definitely feel for you guys. I do have nieces and nephews to worry about, though, and have strongly considered offering to homeschool the younger ones for my sister if she had the means to acquire the curriculum for them. I don't like what public school is doing to them. The filth is everywhere now.

Hi! I’m not close to Bedford. We are further south. While I think it’s a joy to be with my kids and homeschool them, I don’t want to pretend that homeschooling is a piece of cake either. Homeschooling definitely has difficulties. It can take a lot of work, but that’s why it’s really important to consider your “why” behind homeschooling and always keep it in mind as your foundation when it gets hard. That being said, it’s also SO MUCH fun to be the one to see your kids learn and grow! Especially kindergarten. I LOVE teaching my kids kindergarten. It’s very low pressure and there are so many fun learning ideas! I’ll have a rising kindergartener this fall too, so definitely check out my instagramI! And check my homeschooling in Virginia video!

I do not believe they have any pdf versions of their textbooks.

This is my first year for K5 and I made a down payment and agreed to auto pay monthly which made the financial part of it very much affordable. You still pay the full amount but in monthly installments. You can also choose to break your payments up into 6 months or 9 months which is what made the curriculum possible for our family. Hope this helps!

They currently don't have video “lessons” but the online library resources take you to videos and resources to help you explain concepts. They have those links broken down by chapters!
