Ray Clemence – Liverpool Football Club 1967–1981
Ray Clemence is without doubt the greatest goalkeeper ever to play for Liverpool.
Not only that, he was arguably the finest stopper in Europe throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, a period in which Liverpool won five league titles and three European Cups.
In his vivid green goalkeeping top, Clemence became an Anfield institution and will go down as one of the shrewdest transfer bargains in football history.
Clemence made 665 appearances for Liverpool - second only to Ian Callaghan - after joining for £18,000 from Scunthorpe.

Terry McDermott - Liverpool Football Club 1974-1982
Переглядів 41 тис.6 років тому
Terry McDermott was a spectacular midfield player who graced the Kop and scored arguably the best goal ever seen at Anfield during the 7-0 win over Tottenham at Anfield in 1978. In four seasons when he was at his peak, he contributed nearly 50 league goals as well as many more vital strikes in cup competitions. He became a regular member of the England squad and was capped 25 times. Even in 198...
Ray Kennedy - Liverpool Football Club 1974-1982
Переглядів 19 тис.6 років тому
Ray Kennedy was converted by Bob Paisley from a striker to a left sided midfielder and is a Liverpool legend. Maybe Ray's stay at Liverpool would have been only a brief one had it not been for a master-stroke by the astute Bob Paisley when, half-way through the 1975-76 season, he asked the forward to play on the left side of midfield instead. By the end of the year, Ray had made the No.5 shirt ...
Derek Mountfield - Everton Football Club 1982-1988

Derek Mountfield joined the club from Tranmere in 1982 and the lifelong Evertonian got his break when Mark Higgins suffered cruel luck with injuries. It was an opportunity he seized with both hands. Mountfield formed an impressive defensive partnership with Kevin Ratcliffe and he netted an impressive 10 league goals league during the glorious 1984/85 title-winning campaign. Indeed, the lifelong...

Bob Latchford - Everton Football Club 1974-1981
Переглядів 25 тис.6 років тому
Bob Latchford was one of the leading goalscorers of his generation - at a time when the dominant force in English football lay on the opposite side of Stanley Park. But if trophies were out of reach for Evertonians in the 1970s, the very least the long suffering fans needed was a folk hero in the true Royal Blue tradition to allow them to lift their heads in pride. Bob Latchford became that hero.

The original eccentric genius between the sticks, Bruce Grobbelaar will be best remembered for the wobbly-legged penalty heroics which brought Liverpool the 1984 European Cup Other than the European triumph in Rome, there is just the small matter of his other 626 run-outs for the Reds in a glittering 14-year career in which he established himself as one of the Reds' greatest ever custodians and...

He was absolutely world class. Some of his finishing was ridiculous, some of which seemed more on a par with modern day football. One of the best finishers the game has ever produced, I would say probably in the top 3 of all time greatest finishers.

John Aldridge was just as integral to this team as any other Liverpool player. I recall thinking as a 10 year old when Rush moved to Juve: "Who the hell is going to replace him" and not only did he look like Rush, he was arguably as good as him during his time there. It's funny because i was actually disappointed when Rush rejoined because I knew he'd only go on and replace a man who gave us so much during that time. So it was a mixed bag of emotions. My only crititicism of him was that penalty miss in the 88 Cup final. It was a pretty tame effort. He was normally so confident with those but the run up he took against Beasant just didn't look right.

Jan Molby was the epitome of the way Liverpool tried playing football and way ahead of his time as a player. You would imagine him as part of that Barcelona team in 2010. He was practically futuristc because very few players if any played that way during his time.

Was he a winger? I thought of him as an attacking midfielder. As someone said here, he was rather overshadowed by Beardsley, Barnes and probably Aldridge too but his contribution to the team still massively crucial. Just a fantastic player who fitted the mould of that incredible late 80's Liverpool team.

I saw him score a great goal after a mazy run through the middle of the QPR defence on the plastic pitch at Loftus Rd in January '87. Never seen it since. Don't think the TV cameras were there to record it.

Leeds here: I think Dalglish, as manager, created the best club team/squad I think I've ever seen. I was in my early 20's and was in awe of this team of mercurial talents. The players in that squad which Dalglish melded were unbelievable. They were almost psychic in knowing what to do at such speed without looking for each other. Phenomenal: Me and my mate, both Leeds followers said that the 5-0 caning of Forest in a league game (I think) said that was the best game we'd ever seen. I couldn't identify, or single out out, any individual because, as a team, they were mesmeric. Alex Ferguson knew who he had to beat, to emulate, to be the man who created the next generation, but to me, being a football 'fan', this topped everything. To you lucky scousers who were there, witnessing this poetry, history will be told of such genius talent and outright passion. Football now is full of cheats; falling and collapsing at being brushed or even breathed upon. I can't even watch games any more. I don't even recognise it as a viable sporting entertainment, and when we discuss England with their current incumbent manager...well, I'd rather remember that 5-0 demolition of football purity.

People also forget that during much of the 90s, Everton had a very poor team. And, one of the main reasons, arguably the main reason, they stayed in the Premier League was Southall. A lot of people talk about Big Nev in the 80s yet forget the 90s.
