Fixing a broken vacuum pipe on my N54 for less than $10
I had one of the vacuum pipes (PN: 13717558227) break on my N54 while I was doing the oil filter housing gasket. Picked up some 5/32” vacuum hose for less than $20 (for 10 feet). It could probably be done with 4-5 feet of hose tops. I just wanted to have extras when I do the rest of the hoses. But it was a very easy fix. Be careful! Go gentle on the factory hose to barbs. Use a pick to pry them off or use a razor blade to cut the hose free and pry off. Don’t just pull. I know there’s a lot of videos out on hoses for the n54, but I didn’t see any for my particular issue.
Best of luck.
Best of luck.

Quick benefits noted in a cooling system pressure tester
Переглядів 737 місяців тому
Just a quick video showing the advantage of a cheap cooling system pressure tester I got. I thought I had an issue with my thermostat housing. Turns out it was just a leak hose. Wasn’t easily apparent while the engine was running too a.co/d/5eE9WwF
A long winded walk around on my new to me BMW 135i

Long winded! To summarize, needs some slight appearance related work, I intended to do some reliability stuff (oil filter housing, injectors, water pump), very slight mods (downpipe and exhaust maybe), and just want to road trip it!

“Quick” video on my mystery coolant leak - coolant past casting plugs - easy fix
Переглядів 629 місяців тому
Little longer than I was hoping. But I was having an issue with my fresh built engine losing coolant. Couldn’t see where it was going. Oil wasn’t milky, no signs of leaks on the outside. Ended up pulling the valve cover and found all four of my head casting plugs were leaking coolant past the threads. I believe this to be a workmanship issue from S&J engines, but that’s just my opinion based on...

This is the full, largely unedited video for the winch rebuild. Haven’t had a chance to edit it down, but figured I’d post what I have! Setting expectations: this won’t be perfect! I’m okay with that, I just want something that functions as well as I am able to do

Just a quick video showing the current state of a winch I picked up. This will ultimately be a winch I intend to clean up, get functional, and put in the Jeep! Please don’t expect a full restoration to factory state. Just me taking a ratty winch and cleaning it up :)
Putting Hood Struts in my XJ for less than $50 and an hour of time
Переглядів 1,5 тис.Рік тому
Spent a little bit of time putting hood struts in my XJ! Pretty dang easy to do, I just placed the brackets where I showed. If I could change anything: I’d move the passenger side body bracket a fraction of an inch inwards, away from the flange it was backed up to. It was just a little too close and the bracket isn’t sitting flush. Not enough to cause problems, but enough that it doesn’t stay t...

Diagnosing a long crank weak start in my XJ
Переглядів 1,9 тис.2 роки тому
just a real quick video I threw together. The jeep was started taking a bit longer to start and I needed to diagnose the problem. Initially started by checking fuel pressure and it looked reasonable at the time, and the pump was new. Priming slowly had no change because it was losing pressure so quickly. Rent a fuel pressure gauge from a part store for "free" and that might confirm your problem!

I'd like to order a bezel
ANY SUGGESTIONS??M.... Is it really that loud?, Like people have stated on forums? I've read other's who've gone back to stock because of how noisy it is....
Bolt size
Dude I have the exact same color . Cannot find the color code anywhere in the car. Can you share it with me?
PU7, sienna pearl. Should be on the door jam info. If you have a 00-01, it’s likely sienna pearl. If it’s any other year, it’s not PU7

I tried getting hold of you on instagram about getting a shift boot bezel printed but never got an answer back. Any luck with being able to get one? Thanks
Hey man I’m not sure if you’re still active on here but I was curious if you’re still 3d printing the Jeep XJ manual shift bezels or if you’d be willing to sell the stl file so I could print one for my XJ
So i got all the parts needed from a guy selling them as a kit… i have the ecu and the harness for it but im confused on how to run said harness… i figured temporarily ill run my auto ecu with the manual till i figure that out
Thanks for the insight bud
I tried looking you up on Instagram, but I can't find you. how much do you 3d print your bezels for?
Nice video
Thanks!
I did the turbos 4 times on different n54 cars and it always took me over 20 hours. Cant never keep up with the maintanaince
Gotvha I see, I certainly don’t expect them to be easy to work on. But crossing my fingers that the maintenance is manageable
You said you were currently at 5 degrees on your pinion angle, is there a maximum tolerable degree or is it all up to if you get vibrations?
I’ve found you can get away with about 8° on the pinion, assuming you have a SYE. But it’s probably more of a case by case situation. Ideally for a SYE, 2° for leaf setups or 0° for coil setups is where ya want to be.
Enjoy the next 10k you drop on maintenance and upgrades. From a fellow 135i owner. You’ll never sell it!
Oh I’m sure! I think it’ll be fun
Fix your picture quality. its at 360p
It recorded at 4k. When you post a video to UA-cam, any video, it’ll post at lowest quality then raise over the first hour to full quality. Only way to resolve this is by posting and scheduling it, which isn’t necessary
Thanks man I have so many questions
What questions do you got?
I like how you saved this one until Mickey entered the public domain so Disney couldn't sue you for $75,000,000
Yeah you got me figured out
Does having these bad bushings make the jeep vibrate ate 60 miles?
Well if you feel a steering wheel shimmy, maybe. But if you’re talking about the entire jeep vibrating, it’s more likely your driveshaft. Check the quality of your u joints, and also check your pinion angle, especially if you’re lifted and don’t have a SYE
@@xj_overlander thanks will do
Whats your Instagram. Great video very helpful. I would like to see the arms if you have pics or a video
I bought a bell housing for my AX-15, from deadjeeps on ebay and the bell housing arrived with a 3-inch long crack. Almost $300 cost, for junk. Luckily, I can weld aluminum. No shame. Beware.
Yep I hear that. I haven’t been happy
I did this to my Jeep XJ in CA, 110 degrees summer no problems, best mod you can do to an XJ. The Jeep slower though
Oh absolutely. It’s remarkably better in cooling. But I absolutely noticed the loss in power to the ground
Is it really that loud?, Like people have stated on forums? I've read other's who've gone back to stock because of how noisy it is....
Thanks for all the info. My jeep has 1 ton steering and has tie rod roll. It’s wandering all over the road. I did the phone measurement and caster said 6. Any ideas?
Hmm gotcha. How much lift do you have?
Fascinating
You can tighten the spring on the front of your stock clutch, needle nose pliers, takes about 10 seconds I did mine and i noticed about the same results as this . If im moving it stays around 190ish and if i idle for a few in summer it gets 210ish . I live in high desert with low humidity,
Oh interesting
Thanks for your insight. The Fan clutch in my Comanche actually works as the one you reviewed here. You can floor the pedal to the metal and the fan does rev instantly. The idle temperature cannot be controlled by the main fan at all. This metal fan only covers half of the radiator area. That's why is so important to ensure that the electric fan works properly. Since my jeep has a Jeep ZJ PCM, an temperature switch was installed on the lower coolant hose to activate the electric fan relay.
Thank you for the great info. I have two Jeeps. An XJ *94, WJ 2004. Taking a look at converting to manual on the 94 so now have a view as to parts. M
For sure! It’s not terrible to do. Finding the parts are the hardest, swap isn’t bad. Best of luck
So how do you like out so far? As a daily?
It’s kinda hit or miss with me. It’s a great jeep. But it’s also just got so much overlap with my XJ that I’d rather drive the jeep that drives nicer, has more power, and is more capable. That said, it’s unbeatable for a summer rig! I am looking to sell it though, have too much projects. It just crossed over 120k miles too.
Nice build! you have done a ton to it for sure! I would like to know more about the engine computer monitor....
Thanks! And it’s an “ultragauge”
what a mess seems odd they wouldn't still make such a simple thing
Your boy WAEMID put me on to you gonna follow. You got a Jeeper in NYC if you're ever around I got the tour.
Very cool! I am in the middle of a AX15 swap into my 1998 XJ. Your 3D printed shift bezels, how can I put in an order?
Awesome! Feel free to reach out to me at my instagram @xj_overlander or my shop email, partsbybryant@gmail.com
where did you buy the fan clutch?
I got mine from Napa
I did this for the hot summers in az. But my issue I ran into was the mechanical fan blade hit the shroud
Only reason I can imagine why that would happen is if your motor mounts were worn out, used the wrong clutch, or maybe a loose fan shroud? Not saying it’s not possible, but I’ve ran one for over 6 months without an issue. And can speak for others too
How can I purchase a manual shift bezel for my ‘97 from you? I’m not on Instagram or Facebook. I really appreciate your help!!
Hey there! I spent a little bit of time addressing this so I can better track shipping stuff for those than don’t have the social media Please email me at partsbybryant@gmail.com!
After 18yrs of owning my 95 rio grande edition I had to trade it. N.Y. winter's ate it alive. I had those leaf springs and you didn't ride in it, you rode on it. Like a pogo stick. I am trying to find one to replace it but I refuse to pay these prices. I just want a plain jane stripped wrangler with a 5sp and a heater. I would buy this one in a heartbeat. Beautiful! 9:54 10:22
Thank you! They’re cool jeeps
Just take the leaf spring pack apart leave what u need J's
So the interesting thing about this is that I tried that after this video and I pulled leafs until it was remotely spring like. I’ve done this on my XJ too. Issue was that it would axle wrap like no one’s business, even with the 8.8 anti wrap perches. Putting leafs back in until it stopped with the bad axle wrap essentially put it back in a super stiff place. So not worthwhile in my case. At this point, I’m fine just throwing better leafs at it
Hi can you please post your video of modifying Jeep TJ clutch pedals to work in 97+ XJ? Thank you so much!❤
So this issue with this is that I never took a video of this. It requires me buying new pedals. So its not really in the plans at the moment unless I come across some for cheap. It’s pretty simple though. I just cut the pedals at the bends and then slowly trimmed down the three pieces until they matched the profile of the XJ brake pedal. Then welded together. Swap the XJ brake pedal bracket in with the TJ clutch bracket and you’re set!
Thank you! Wish me luck haha😅
Hey there! Good job.. We bought an island on a lake in the wilderness of Canada last summer! We have so much to learn about machinery maintenance and fixes! 😊
Hey thank you! Sounds like a big project, but a lot of fun!
i actually like the seats if you dont mind me asking what year of PT Cruiser
Right on! My brother said he believes it was a 2004 turbo edition. He noted that the turbo edition had different seats. Also noted that you just unbolt the PT cruiser seat rails and bolt on the YJ rails to the seat and it’s set. Rides a little tall though. My thighs are right up against the wheels and I’m not that big of a guy. I’d recommend shortening the seat by a couple inches if possible.
Nice I have 5” lift with 35” mud tires on mine ARB front bumper
Super cool!
WOOOOOOOOO
Incredible
Looks like it is great shape. The frames on these are usually rusted out in Cleveland.
Yep, it’s not bad at all. Some rusty bolts but nothing else on it. I’ve heard that Midwest Jeeps can be a lot of fun when it comes to rust
Rear shocks are upside down, the boots go up😅.
Pull up a photo of the blistein 5100’s for a XJ. You’ll see the bar pin is pressed into the exact same bushing. Which means it can only go in the exact orientation as mine.
@@xj_overlander damn that's crazy must just be an XJ thing because I have them mounted on everything we have & the boots are always up. I'm only here because I'm in the market for an XJ and trying to do some homework before pulling the trigger😅. Appreciate the info🤙.
Nice XJ. Did you have much rust when purchased?
I actually never saw any. It looks to me like this is the only rust and seems to have started from the inside. Likely a few years of wet feet and not drying out. Otherwise it’s in pretty solid shape
I just had a new driveshaft put in and my car is making horrible noises. Scraping sound and sounds like a motor bike or air brakes sound when I’m slowing down without brakes. It also makes noise when I turn. Maybe they got the angles wrong. I’m so upset. I only had a slight vibration so decided to change it but now I’m regretting.
👍🏻
That is sweet, thanks man
Any time!
