one thing if you're planning to upgrade a guitar like this, is the whole slightly different sized components problem. Imperial vs. Metric. I don't know how much of a problem it is with Epiphone/Gibson, but with Squier/Fender, in my experience, it was a huge PITA. like, buying 5 different versions of pickup covers on ebay and none of them would have all 6 holes in the plastic line up with all 6 poles. but you can make it work if you're determined lol.

Thank you for your review! I was always curious about these. What did your signal chain look like from guitar output to youtube? That would help me calibrate my brain for the tone, but assuming an otherwise common setup, that tone is more than workable. I disagree with you on two points: I prefer less knobs. I've never been in a position where I had different tone settings on each pickup or switched pickups for volume variations however, now I want to do just that! I didn't think of that kind of experimentation before. But for most of my use cases, the less fiddly the better. The other point is the position of the pickup selector switch. I have been playing a 79 The Paul for many years which also has the switch down by the knobs. If you do more than a moderate amount of movement when rocking out, be it at home or on stage, it's nice not to have to accidentally knock the selector switch. Before I got The Paul I had what to me was a "fancy" Carvin at the time (I think a customized SC90 for those keeping track) - It was basically a tele/les paul hybrid. all the switches were in the les paul positions. i constantly whacked the pickup selector switch at all the shows i used it with. i think I taped it down or unscrewed it at one point. when I got the paul, it was a nice relief.

The Best cheap les paul is the Gibson Les Paul studio. This piece of crap is not a gibson guitar, and hence it cannot be a les paul

Did you use a chorus pedal in the beginning part of the video or did you achieve the tone only by using the built in reverb?

Mg15 and that's not even a question. With light modifications, the mg15 can sound absolutely phenomenal and when hooked to an external cab, it sounds like a proper marshall, while the mg10 can't be saved. The only thing it has are the cleans and even with an external cabinet it sounds like trash on the crunch channel.

Just bought one of these, not a beginner but i’ve been playing on the same shitty knockoff strat that comes in those cheap beginner kits for years and decided its finally time to get something decent so far im loving it its way lighter than my other cheap guitar im used to that weight so when picked it up i was surprised how light it was

The reverb is ok but the sound it has a bit of grain.

I own a Squire Sonic Strat and am looking at purchasing this guitar. Seems a good platform to mod and will end up playing better than a lower end Fender.
