Rusty Rock Woodcraft
Приєднався 18 гру 2021
If we haven't met before, I'm John. Welcome to the channel. In 2024, my wife Darcey and I are relocating to the Iron Range in the northwoods of Minnesota. We drew upon the geology (namely, the iron-rich rocks) of this region for the name of our business: Rusty Rocks Woodcraft. This channel focuses on our passion for woodworking, home/cabin DIY projects, as well as tools that we use for both. This area's rich history in iron mining and outdoor living provide an exceptional canvas, in which we draw upon for inspiration as makers.
Easy DIY Drawers and Shelves (for Shop Cabinet)
This video finishes off the miter saw workstation build I previous did by showing how to make drawers and shelves for a shop cabinet.
I make a highly-used workbench in my shop more useful by installing drawers and shelves underneath the bench. My goal in building out this shop is to reduce friction to work as much as possible.

I bought the 1/4&3/8 in the comfort grip and i have Snap-on mac and matco and i would put this up there with them just because it feels good in the hand i bought these for home so they won't get used as much as the others i have used them for a few months now and love them
I’d love to see the video of the out-feed assembly table build. Hope all is well.
Really, you can just press each caster in until it clicks, you don't need a hammer and something to use as a drift.
Thank you for the very detailed video. Absolutely love the layout of the workshop!
I inserted the wheels putter folly om the ground and just stamped on each wheel inturn
How do you make the miter slot parallel with the blade?
Nice video. At 13:00 you stated you needed to make an adjustment because the cut off was thinner on one end. That makes no sense considering that the distance between the blade and the fence never changes at the point of the cut. What you had was an unparallel board.
Good tips. I appreciated learning about angling the tip of the blade for feathering, and keeping the scraping horizontal instead of dragging excess material down vertically. Seems obvious once someone points it out; but that's the sort of know-how that makes the difference between an amateur DIY finish and a polished look.
Excellent video! I'll be watching out for more! Meanwhile, I'm going to retrofit an old shop work station with drawers. Thanks for the inspiration 🍅
Glad it inspired you! You're going to love having drawers!
What a mess😂😂😂
Good enough for DIY use. But Makita XGT track saw is more superior imo
Good enough for DIY use.
I thought you had to fill oil into the filter and let it soak for abit then put the filter on.
Rusty, great video thank you for sharing
Great video thank you - curious have you tried fitting this into a router table?
Why not pour it in from the front of it lol
The hose was the best part.
Will m18 router fit in porta cable plunge base?
Nope. You are supposed to put in oil to threads of the filter first and wait two minutes before installing. If not you have to adjust oil level again. Not sure if it has other benefits to fill the oil in the filter but manual recommends that. Good video however.
Nope. You are supposed to put in oil to threads of Filter first and wait two minutes before installing.
Can you remove the two tracks to make shorter cuts once you’ve done the initial cut with the tracks connected?
Did you ever tighten the brake?
From what I understand, your lungs benefit the most from a MERV 15 filter that takes out 95% of the 0.3 micron particles. I inherited my dad’s 1-3/4 hp powermatic dust distributor after he passed from lung cancer. The Wynn MERV 15 filter that replaced the bag can make a remarkable amount of fresh air in a hurry. I have a thein baffle but will replace with a Super Dust Deputy shortly. Happy woodworking.
Just curious why you wouldn't have drained it into your final container instead of having to transfer it. Just curious
Good job easy understand !😀
Great review. I've been thinking about getting one of these, but am a little concerned about whether it would be hard to achieve a nice square cut with it being totally free hand. It's a shame none of these seem to have a simple cut-off stand attachment, however with the light weight of the tool, and the led shadow guide (which i wasn't aware of before watching this video) - i think it should be easy to get the knack of neat cuts. I just hope this isn't going to end up being a tool that punishes me for being left handed... 😂
Mine doesn’t wanna turn the blade at all and it’s brand new
Thank you!
Recheck the oil level after running it. The filter will fill, and the oil level in the engine will be slightly lower. It shouldn't be a lot because the filter is small, but why not get the oil level up to full.
Extremely helpful
Hi, I have the same mower/engine, when I use the taller filters (Fram PH7575 0r 3614 or equivalents) the steering rod rubs/dents the filter when the left front axle goes upwards on hills or bumps, I can see in your video you don't have much clearance left with the taller Fram, the dealer told me they are well aware of this issue and that is why they went with the shorter filter (Kohler 12 050 01)
The fram equivalent for the shorter kohler engine is the PH8172
Excellent review Sir!! Just picked one up today and now need to order up the plunge base. Thank you!!
Nicely done John!!
Thank you!
You did not mention how much it weighs, or costs?
Great video! I have an issue with my front wheels going in different directions and it's difficult to steer. Any recommendations on how to fix that? My mower is very similar to the one in this video
I need this! The change oil notification just came on.
The W stands for winter, not weight. And with it being multi viscosity, it'll have the lubricity of 5 weight in cold temps and 30 weight in hotter temps. Just trying to help in case someone didn't know 👍🏻
What model Delta dust collector is that? Is the suction better or worse after the mods? Usually the filter helps improve suction but the cyclone usually reduces it.
Its the Delta Model 50-760 dust collector. I've had it for 12+ years. It's been a great unit. The suction was much better after the pleated filter from Wynn Environmental. I ran 4" sewer pipe down the length of the wall (about 26 feet) and have several inlets with aluminum gates. It works great. I don't have a meter to test CFM difference after the mods, but it provides plenty of power.
Thank you! Very helpful.
Everyone online in recent years are complaining about the blades, how they are only good for a few cuts even in easy stuff like EMT, the weld snapping, blade teeth burning out, etc. How are your blades holding up?
I would agree, they aren't a durable as I'd hoped. I replaced one after about 30 cuts. I bought a 3 pack and so far, still have two left. I found that if you don't push the blade too hard through the material, it lasts longer.
Underrated channel, keep up the great work! 😊
Thank you! We're in the process of moving, but after that is done, I'll be back to making more content.
@@rustyrockwoodcraft good to know! I'll be on the lookout!
First, use some cardboard, don’t mess up your garage floor. Then oil on the ground everywhere. Hahahaha. Just kidding. Thanks for the informative educative video clip. It helps a lot!
I got a little too impatient on the pour :)
This is pretty close to what I have in mind for my garage. Cool to see how you did it
It works very well. Especially with a remote switch to turn on and off when I'm standing at the tool. I use it just about every time that I'm in the shop. Good luck with your build!
Did you ever take a measurement of the saw's height after installing the mobility wheels?
It is 70.5" in stationary mode. With the mobility wheel down (to roll), it goes up to just under 71"
Great build out. Getting ready to set up my garage shop again after moving it from CO to TX.
Thanks and good luck with your move. I'm doing the same (but from Wisconsin to northern MN) in a few weeks. I'll tear it down and reinstall in the new shop.
would this have the power to, with the proper blade, to cut lets say 3/4in or 1in black iron pipe?
I haven't tested that, but if I do, I'll post the result here. I've used it to cut 1/16th inch plate steel and thicker c-channel, but I have broken a blade by pushing it too hard.
Thank you this is exactly what I needed!
You’re welcome!
I'm running mine off a compact 21700 based 4Ah DeWalt battery with adaptor and can still fit my fingers through around the top handle. I also have M18 nail guns and Makita Jap made grease gun since DeWalt dropped the ball on all of those.
Also for the people looking at this video, look at the Kreg acu cut system. I used the system for awhile and was very happy with it, not perfect and does have a bit of play but it worked very well.
I looked at that as well, but went with this. I've been happy with it as a Festool alternative that works well. It's been a workhorse in breaking down 4x8 sheet goods in my shop and giving a straight edge to rough-cut or live edge lumber.
So just a tip I couldn’t see much of a gap between your guid rails. The consensus is you should leave a 1/8 inch gap between the two guides because they are not machined perfectly 90 on the ends.. that’s what I have heard.. I bought the saw with a 8.0 amp battery like you. I’m just waiting to get my guide now boy are those expensive
Good tip! I use a long straight-edge (Bora edge guide or a 4' level) when joining the tracks to confirm a straight edge. I found the two track sides that consistently work well together and leave the rail connectors in one track so I know which edges to join each time. Results (for my two tracks) have been consistent.
@@rustyrockwoodcraft good to hear. I also was thinking that you could always use a combination square and check to see if it is or not..
