10 Language "Facts" Debunked in 10 Minutes
Motivation to learn that specific language also is a huge factor, can't learn another language no matter how easy or hard it is if you are forcing yourself to learn it which is one of the reasons why unless you know the language the required language credits are some of the worst classes
I’m from Wyoming We have weird variety of accents
just letting y'all know that puto and rapariga are curse words in brazil
As a brazilian, i say that we also say "memo" like a slang.
Brazilian: EAI SUA PRONCESA BUNITINHA! Portugal: ula sua rapariga bunitina
I'm 75% Acadian and 10% Quebecois French. My French accent is Acadian - im told that everyday. There are other dialects that are Creole blanc and Creole Noire and evevyone speaks a little different. I detest the term Louisiana French. Certain people are jealous of Cajuns and they want to take away our identity. There are probably more French speakers than that. But sadly its fading fast.

Ok so... Thy end is NOW
🇧🇷: portugal criou, nós aperfeiçoamos, fodam-se tugas
Cara vc já ouviu falar de sotaque?
That sounds so... barbaric
I live in Nebraska and have never in my life heard someone say "Carmel"
No, no, no!!!
Oh you speak very good portuguese (parabens manos)
Why did you call it tense and not aspect?
Ye = Nominative You = Oblique Your = Genetive
Im from the northeast and pronounce it pi-jah-mas and for been I do pronounce it like ben
As a brazilian, i'd say 'bashtanche'
Scots or Western Frisian
You just cracked open the whole understanding with the "sound + meaning" suddenly some that had stumped me trying to read clicked. I don't know how but that convention never got explained

That is so interesting, wow! I've always been fascinated by languages with their own ways of writing and stuff :)) I also love that a little otter was teaching me
Dude, you are literally stereotyping words from the Portuguese vocabulary, yes, ok, there are Brazilians who speak like that, but it's just a way of speaking, it's not like it's a general rule of Brazilian Portuguese.
but then some khutsuri kid from ancient times decided to say "Mama" when their dad was around
I have been in Georgia my whole life and the only 2 of these that were accurate to me was Coke and pajamas. The rest was like the midwest which makes sense because most of my older relatives are from Indiana and Wisconsin
'Pure' English vocabulary flethermouse = bat hound = dog wordsbook = dictionary
Me: Born in Oregon, raised in Washington Care-uh-Mel I have literally no connection to the south for over one hundred years. 😂
I'm Brazilian and love languages. Just learned a lot that I didn't know! Let's improve our Spanish now 🎉😁
"Mesmo" in Brazil is also pronounced with zh sound in parts of the country.
The pronunciation of Brazilian Portuguese is a bit off, because you didn't account for vowel reduction - this short makes it seem as if it was exclusive to Pt-Pt, but it's very prominent in Pt-Br as well. A "t" before a "e" will be pronounced as "tch" only in contexts where this "e" is pronounced as "i", which is its raised form. Many, but not all, unstressed syllables behave like that, and specifically if a word ends in an unstressed "e", it'll be pronounced "i", and if it's an "o", it'll become "u". This happens because Pt-Br is also a stress-timed language, and vowel reduction occurs because of that. It's not as extreme a development as in Pt-Pt, but it is a feature of our language. Besides raising unstressed vowels, I can give one example to show it's true: since last year, the Catholic Missal received a new translation. There was a prayer that ended with "para o nosso bem e de toda a santa Igreja", that is now "para o nosso bem e de toda a SUA santa Igreja". The thing is, some people adapted quickly to the new translation, some didn't, because you can pronounce it as one syllable and still maintain the regular rhythm of the whole sentence: "par'o NOSso BEM e de TOd'a [swa] SANt'i-GREja".
The fact that many people started to use this new habitual tense doesn't have so much to do with its usefulness. "I be working (AAVE)" can be translated to standard very easily. Most often, "I work" is interpreted the same way, plus it is shorter. One could use "I have a job" for a more specific, albeit less literal translation. The real reason why people are using AAVE is that young Americans (and possibly Europeans, too) are hearing ningenbabble more often through social media.
There is a nyt accent quiz that was able to guess my accent to the city. Super eerie considering I’m from the deep south but people from my home town think I’m from up north by my accent.
My first language is not English so now I don´t know what dialect I´m talking.
Dang, what if I call it cah-ruh-muhl?
I say “Paжamas”
“uneven” If you know, you know
Also to add, not all Brazilians pronounce their words like that
so, is there a rule on where the "pronounciation" is supposed to be located? is it always on the right like on that example or is it completely random. I do know many Kanji are split into 3 or 4 different kanji as well.
FYI: the famine only happened because the brits exported 90% of our live game and all crops. Potatoes were easy and fast to grow, so we grew a lot to try to keep ourselves alive. The blight came along and destroyed our main source of food. The blight isn't what killed us. It's the fact that the brits wouldn't allow us to eat anything else, not even the fish we caught
I have lived in Georgia all my life so tell me why this quiz says I have a Northeastern accent. I mean my mom's from New York but I'm not
This is the case with Middle Eastern languages like Persian and Turkish, which were influenced by Arabic instead of Latin. But these purification attempts are actually taken seriously here; people do actively try to purify their languages of the Arabic vocabulary. While for English, as you said, it's just for fun.
And we also have more Arabic words in academic content rather than our daily language.
True 🇵🇹🇵🇹
There is portuguese. And theres is the overseas portuguese there. Entendji!? É difentchi. Sinceramentchi viu.
No such thing as a "european portuguese", it's "Portuguese" only
O carioca eo recifense diz meRmo 😅😅😅
