    When fabricating a large volume of pipe, would you ever use cutting fluid or wax? I was considering using some on a 1.25" hole saw but Im unsure if that could degrade the gasket on the grooved mech tee.

    • @SprinklerFitting
      @SprinklerFitting Місяць тому

      The manufacturers instructions that come with the Mech T’s say Do Not Lube so you would need to wipe clean the pipe . The heavier Mechanical T’s get lubed . Either way you need to wipe clean the hole . I prefer not to use the cutting fluid but if you want you can use it . I use a pilot clamp and the lube and shavings would just make a mess of the clamp . Personally I don’t think the lubricant is worth the effort .

      Any particular type of hole saw you prefer? Bi Metal or Carbide Tipped? Any brand choice? I'm not using any cutting fluid either. Do you do anything extra to cool the hole saw? Also high speed and low torque or low speed high torque? I'm using a cordless 18v Milwaukee brushless

    • @SprinklerFitting
      @SprinklerFitting Місяць тому

      @papasmurf6058 I use Milwaukee drill. High speed . High torque . Faster and stronger the better on small size holes . I don’t want the drill to stop ! Bi Metal works good . No preference on hole saws I use whatever hole saw my company buys or suppliers stock .

      Okay thank you for the insights. I'll use setting 2 for high speed tomorrow since I'm drilling 1.25" holes for grooved mech tee 🙏

      @@SprinklerFitting It would be a big project if I have to cut a little open the ceiling to be able to insert the extension inside also. Thought I think it would work because there is free room above the elbow and a little play that could accommodate the cap. Also good question, in the worst case scenario it couldn't be applied any adhesive to the backside of the cover at the edge for it to stay flush with the ceiling?

    I just started as a fitter this Friday, learned how to do these things for the first time, working for a sprinkler company. How long does it take for the body to adjust to lifting the heavy pipe?

    • @SprinklerFitting
      @SprinklerFitting 5 місяців тому

      It will take a while , most important is to lift properly , bend at the knees , dont rotate body with pipe on shoulder as you will get lower back injury , need to turn with you feet keeping body straight . If it heavy get help , use mechanical means when possible , pipe cart ,pipe cricket etc . Dont be a hero as your boss wont pay your bills if you get hurt . Take your time .

    Nice basic video. Just a tip for any guys that have never seen the ridgid 975’s manual before..that silver/chrome dial up on top is a depth setter. No need to use a groove tape if you know how to set the machine properly for the diameter of pipe you are using. In my 15+ years in the trade I’ve never seen a guy actually know what it did and I used to teach 20+ year journeymen what it was for as a junior. Only reason I knew was because I started as a shop kid and used to assemble/repair all the tools and gangboxes as part of my job and the 975 is the most commonly used roll groover by a far margin. As a bonus tip, anyone who likes a 915 in-air, the 975 can be flipped around and function in-air as well.

    That’s definitely an odd one for sure, I’d have to get a better look personally. My initial thought would be those windows aren’t properly fire-rated and this is some sort of goofy means to avoid having to change the casings after they were already installed by mistake? This would’ve been something I kicked back at the GC/engineers if I was running the job. The “lower” heads might be meant to be providing coverage for the means of egress coming out of that entryway, but even if that was the cause they would need to be down below that “wall” to provide adequate coverage.

    • @SprinklerFitting
      @SprinklerFitting 9 місяців тому

      Great question and one that i am not sure of either . I am allowed because the building owners , property managers etc give their permission to do it . Sometimes it is me and sometimes the building engineer who does it . I dont have any specific training or certifications from the manufacturer . All i have is my Journeyman Sprinklerfitter certification from my Provincial authority .So i dont believe you need any to just shut it off . You do need certification to do actual work on the fire pumps for alignments , yearly inspection etc . There is also ASTT certification to do that as well as training from the manufacturers . If anybody else would like to comment on their jurisdictional requirements please do so .

    • @SprinklerFitting
      @SprinklerFitting 9 місяців тому

      The people who do have the training to commission , align and certify are in high demand . You dont need to be a Sprinklerfitter to take the course offered by the manufacturer.

    • @SprinklerFitting
      @SprinklerFitting 11 місяців тому

      It depends on which sprinkler head you have . If you have a Globe 1 inch drop sprinkler head then its possible . The Globe Sprinkler Head has a deep escutcheon . Any other sprinkler head then you would need to remove the head and extend the pipe or remove the head and add a listed 1/2 inch male x female threaded coupling . Your best option would be to remove the Sprinkler Head and replace it with the Globe 1 inch drop . If it is a residential property then you would need a residential sprinkler head .

    • @bjbhehir
      @bjbhehir 11 місяців тому

      Appreciate your fast response, looks like I'll have to do some research but at least it's doable. Thanks!

    • @SprinklerFitting
      @SprinklerFitting 11 місяців тому

      Unscrew the escutcheon and see if it will give you a 1/2 inch gap before it comes off . If it does then your lucky . Also look at the deflector inside the sprinkler head , it should drop below the finished height of your new ceiling . If you do need to change the sprinkler head you dont need to cut the drywall ! The Sprinkler head has a special wrench that attaches to a 1/2 ratchet and it fits inside the Sprinkler head . I would recommend asking a Sprinkler Fitter to do the work .

    • @SprinklerFitting
      @SprinklerFitting 11 місяців тому

      The sprinkler drawing should indicate where the bracing is needed . Generally every change of direction is a 4 way brace , then 40 ft is a 2 way ,then 4 way at 80 ft . Longitudinal and lateral . 1 inch pipe is used for bracing under 7 ft , over 7 feet then use 1.25 inch pipe .
