The Underwater Truth of Topwater: See and Hear for Yourself
The actions and noises of topwater lures we see and hear mean little to nothing, because it is not what fish see or hear underwater. As long as you are not trying to catch a heron or osprey, you will find the underwater footages of today's 8 popular topwater lures interesting and informative. The action, profile, surface disturbance and noise of a topwater lure from a fish's perspective might surprise you. See for yourself and hear for yourself, and get that next explosive strike!
8 Types of popular topwater baits presented: popper, spook, pencil popper, single prop bait, double prop bait, crawler, wake bait and buzzbait. 1-2 representative baits in each type are shown, followed by a list of other brands worthy trying at the end of each chapter.
Hollow body frogs and topwater soft plastics are not included b/c they warrant a separate video.

Palomar Knot: Forget about the "Directions"
Переглядів 3 тис.6 місяців тому
When tying a dropshot rig using the infamous Palomar knot, it is sometimes tricky to always make sure the hook is pointing up. There are many instructions telling you you need to thread the line or place the hook through the loop in certain directions, etc; and thread the tag. However, you actually don't need to pay attention to any of these...just tie it up, and then use this "Magic Trick", yo...

Rods: WHY Length and Weight are almost Pointless: look for these 2 HIDDEN specs instead
Переглядів 9 тис.7 місяців тому
When talking about long rods and short rods, we often only refer to the rod total length. Actually the entire rod industry tends to do so. However, for artificial bait fishing such as bass fishing and trout fishing where a lot of wrist casting is involved, how much rod is actually constantly being used is not always reflected by its total length. Same can be said about the rod weight. A lot of ...
Not about Who is Better: This HUGE Difference of Shimano vs Daiwa that No One is talking about
Переглядів 130 тис.8 місяців тому
Shimano and Daiwa, whose reel runs superb? Not sure if there will be a correct answer. Both being top notch performers, it makes less sense to say which one is out performing the other. However, looking back for 20 years of modern fishing reel history and milestones, I found some interesting difference in terms of the way both companies roll out the tech updates on the fishing reels. #shimanore...

In this video I'll take you for a deep dive into the second key parameter of a baitcasting reel's spool: diameter. Just like spool weight, the spool diameter is a constantly changing variable during casting or retrieving. The diameter change significantly affects the lure speed, diving depth, the success rate of hook setting and fish fighting. With a little high school math and physics, you wil...

I own both, all mid to high end….Daiwa = that hot chick you took out once, good to look at but is high maintenance and a bit bitchy and doesn’t perform where it counts. Shimano = that really good friend that you can count on, always reliable and never lets you down, has your back when it gets tough. My Daiwa collection spends most of its life in a box nowadays.

This is an awesomely fantastic video! I wish there was a video like this on reels that have not been compared to each other before. Namely the 8000 series spinning reels like the Shimano Baitrunner, Daiwa Free Swimmer, Daiwa Emcast Bite n Run, and the Penn Live Liner reels. Even Okuma has the Avenger Baitfeeder. I can't find any videos of someone comparing them side-by-side let alone a teardown and seeing the size and materiel of the gears, bearings, drag washers, and other hardware. Whoever can do that first would be the internet fishing guru. Nobody forgets the first and the best.

I feel like I picked up on the same sentiment about 7ish years ago, but my speculations about their strategy and implementation was a bit different, at least in the American market. I think Daiwa has raced to push a little performance into the massive low-middle price points of the market, perhaps with a willingness to cut corners in order to do so. If you looked at their US offerings in the first half of the 2010s, it's pretty boring. It felt like you had to pony up for a Stradic to get something that actually started to feel nice. I think Daiwa changed that in 2016 with a BG that felt very nice for a seemingly impossible price. Shimano released a Nasci in 2016 that was rock solid, but I think it took them till the 21 iteration of the Nasci to punch back with more than just the value of durability.

It’s all a money thing. I’ve fished for probably 45 years. I’ve used them all and as of now I choose Daiwa. I could be out in my Ranger boat, with all the electronics and all the latest gear and I know an old guy that will have his flat bottom boat with no electronics, old Zebco reels and a 1980s Abu Garcia bait caster and maybe a couple of open face rods and reels, and six out of 10 times outfish everybody in the tournament. It’s just the world we live in today. The latest and greatest sales! But, do we really need it? None of those guys back in the 70s and 80s when I was growing up watching those tournaments on TV, had any of it.

I just serviced dads old Abumatic that I learned to cast with, that reel has been on countless of mountain fishing trips, I have my grandads Abu Garcia ambassadeur from the 1950's all works fine. For the last 5 years I have used the Shimano 17 Scorpion DC with upgraded bearings. I have the 21 Scorpion DC, but I really like the balance the 17 DC gives me on the rod, it weighs nothing.

Thanks for the great review! I plan to use it for mainly crankbait applications such as OSP Blitz Max, Nishine Chippawa RB Blade. Do you think the reel is tough enough for OSP Blitz Max DR or the Megabass Deep x 300? I fish mainly open water from shore so I use 8lb Seaguar R18 LTD. Planing to pair it with my P5 Madbull.

Thanks for a great, in depth review! Could you answer one question please? I fish jerkbaits from a high bank and I jerk sideways, not up and down, so long rods are not a problem for me. I am looking for a long spinning rod with a good tip section for throwing light 3/16 to 1/4 jerkbaits. Is the tip on the Flyssa good for this application?

Great video! I have a question for you…have you ever used a shimano Metanium DC 70A reel? If so, if you could get the DC 70A or a 24 Calcutta conquest 30HG for the nearly same price, what reel would you choose for casting 1/8 oz - 3/8 oz lure weights? The DC 70A looks to be 1.7 oz lighter than the CC-30HG….(aluminum gear vs brass gears?)….that’s a fairly substantial difference in weight.

    • @BassniperEng
      @BassniperEng 4 місяці тому

Yes the new black out Met DC, I have the 71 lefty model, been using it for about 3 months. I would say if you plan to use only one reel to cover a wide range of lure weights and types (i.e. different air resistance), I'd go with the DC; if you plan to focus on lures on the lighter side like 1/8-3/8, I would go with the Conquest 30 HG. This is only considering casting though. For handling fish and lure presentation, the DC (or low profile in general) fits better for palming, also gives more leverage to the presentations that require a lot of wrist action (i.e. less fatigue). Weight difference is the other. Al gear saved maybe 5-10 grams of weight compare to the previous gen. Met and Conquest have two different platforms so a lot of parts are made of different material, with Conquest aiming at long term durability. For myself, I am not impressed of the micro module aluminum gear's retrieve feeling on the new Met DC.
