Outdoors in the UP
United States
Приєднався 26 чер 2015
We live in Iron River (Iron County) Michigan. That's the U.P. This channel is just about things that we do outdoors in my area. Cutting firewood, flying a drone, snowmobiling, riding trails in the side by side, fishing etc... I'm brand new to photography/videography and editing, so please bear with me and my learning curve on these things. My channel isn't about being perfect, or the being the best at anything, but more about enjoying the life outdoors. Thanks for checking it out!
A little limbing, bucking, and splitting some firepit wood.
We just wanted to take a tree that blew down in a storm a year or two ago and process it into some firepit firewood. It's just conifer, but that's perfect for the outdoor firepit.

Just some trail cam footage
Переглядів 1912 годин тому
I finally got around to putting up the trail cams this year. We had friends staying with us for the last week, and the kids were riding their dirt bikes and side by sides on the same trails that the cams were up on, so I'm guessing a lot of our normal game was scared away for the time being. We usually see skunks, porcupine, coyotes, and bears. But just some deer and a raccoon this week.

Our friend's kids were just doing some riding on their dirt bikes on our trails, and they wanted to make a video, so we just put a short one together so that they could see it.

Trail cutting progress update with drone footage
Переглядів 36Місяць тому
I've been cutting more trails for the last two days, and here's the progress. We've got 40 acres, and about 25 of those are wooded. So, we started cutting trails through the woods last year. For our property, which was logged by the previous owners about 10 years ago, and has tree stumps all over the place, the most useful tools for making trails have been the Stihl FS 131 with the string trimm...
Stihl 500i and Kioti tractor w/grapple bucking firewood.
Переглядів 227Місяць тому
This was supposed to be a comparison video between the Stihl 500 and the 462. I ran out of daylight for the comparison, so I'll have to do that in the next video. This one is pretty much just using the 500, and showing how well the tractor/grapple, and bucking table work for my application. I think it really works well for us.
Upgrading the firewood bucking table.
Переглядів 433Місяць тому
I FINALLY got around to making my firewood bucking table more user-friendly. I've got so many chores to do around our property, that this project took a backseat for far too long. Well, I finally got it done today. Stay tuned to see it and how it turned out.
Box blading the neighbor's driveway with the Kioti RX 7320
Переглядів 2432 місяці тому
My neighbor's driveway had some pretty bad potholes, so I figured I'd give him a hand in trying to grade the them out. You'll see, I'm FAR from an expert, and have only used the box blade a handful of times so far, so my skills are a work in progress. But I think the end result is that his driveway isn't perfect, but it's a lot better than when we started.
A tractor tip and a chainsaw tip

Just a video that I thought tractor owners and people who use chainsaws regularly may find helpful. I found them both to be very helpful for me. Also, the new camera that I'm using, a short description of it, and a couple of cool features that it has. Also, please check out @hhamilton1970 and @HamiltonvilleFarm for some good content and helpful hints, as well as @timbervisions. Tim at Timber Vi...
Garage Renovation ideas.
Переглядів 472 місяці тому
Hello folks. I'm just thinking out loud in this video. I need to do something with my garage/shop, and I've got some ideas, but I'm looking for some more from anybody that happens to watch this video. I'd appreciate any and all input. Thanks! I'm also using a new Insta360 camera, that I haven't completely conquered the learning curve yet, so there are a few blurry spots in the video, and I'm no...
Kioti RX 7320 and a gooseneck trailer mover
Переглядів 572 місяці тому
Just a boring video that I made to practice stitching Insta360 video footage with drone footage. This was my first time trying to meld two different types of videos together and trying to keep them in some kind of chronological order so that the contents didn't jump all over the place. I think it came out okay for a first time. I really do like this EA {Everything Attachments} trailer mover. Un...
Stump grinding with the Woodland Mills stump grinder and Kubota BX 2350
Переглядів 1293 місяці тому
Not a great video. Beth just doesn't get where to stand, or what to focus on, so you don't get very good views of the stumps that are being ground. And either my editing skills are actually getting worse, or my expectations of my editing are growing, because lately editing the videos has been frustrating, and I'm not happy with how they're turning out. Oh well, I guess I just need more practice...
Last chance for a quick rip in the U.P. this year
Переглядів 383 місяці тому
I just got a chance to put on a few miles today. Pretty sure they'll be the last of the riding season as well. Nothing close-up because I didn't have anybody to video for me, so I had to use the drone. I also kept the drone at a good distance, so that the sled would stay in the picture for a little while. Not a great video by a longshot, but I wanted to get at least some riding footage in for t...
Bucking a log and a tour of the wood processing and drying area.

Just bucking up a log for the firepit, and showing some equipment that I use. The tractor is a Kioti RX 7320, the grapple is a Brost Bite, and the saw is a Stihl 500i.

Your wife is a good sport...and a hard worker....looks like fun having one's wife help with tractor stuff!👍
That's a tricky one to respond to LOL! Yes, she is a pretty hard worker, but since she was a teacher for 29 years, she's always trying to tell me what to do!!!! 🙂
makes all that work worth it!
It absolutely does make it feel worth it to me Bud.
Looks like a good time, anytime you can ride a buggy to a casino is a win! 😂
Putting some miles on. Nice scenery
It was a fun trip. I've learned that I should stop using my cell phone for video though, as the video distorts at speed. I can clearly tell which clips were recorded with the Insta 360 and which ones were taken on cell phone. I also need to stop trying to zoom in even when using the camera, as it loses clarity quickly with even a slight zoom in.
@@JeffGeorgalas I thought it looked pretty good. Those action shots can be tricky with any camera.
Haha I like the idea of practicing on the neighbors stuff first! I don't have a ton of experience with a Boxblade outside of pulling snow with them. I used our 6ft on our Kubota L3600 to level the riding arena at our barn last fall. I started by pulling all of the material from where it was obviously high toward where it was low. From there I ran rows back and forth to try and get everything distributed more evenly. Then I took the remaining excess material in the Boxblade and I looped the arena similar to how ice is zamboni'd, and just took care not to did so bad. For not having a clue what I'm doing, I did pretty well I feel. I didn't record it, but kind of wish I had to look back on it and see what it looked like and learn from other people who are better at it. I've never played with a land plain. The St. Germain ATV Club uses one to maintain their forest road segments. Maybe someday I'll volunteer some hours in their machine to try it out. Great video sir! Enjoying learning with you.
I think I'm going to get a land plane at some point. They're great for when you don't want to move a lot of material, and are just "dressing" things.
I need a platform for the loader to make it easier to get up in trees and trim them up. The lift height of the RX coupled with its surprising ability to get into tighter spots than you'd expect a machine this size could cram into really makes it nice for limbing trees. What drone are you using Jeff?
I use my firewood IBC's as a lift platform for my wife to get in and pick apples with. My drone is a DJI Air2S. Thanks for watching and commenting.
That is slick! I'm surprised I don't see more people building or buying hitches like this to move around their trailers.
I like it a lot. Much easier to hook up and move around our property than hooking up to one of the trucks.
Certainly lots of great riding to be had in the UP! I need to get up there and explore more of the trails when I'm able!
The place looks great, Jeff👍
Thanks Mark, we're working on it!
Looking great Jeff! Those kids will enjoy your efforts
Thanks Bud, I sure hope so!
Cool footage Jeff!
Thanks Genin.
Getting things done! Looks like both saws are ripping pretty well. I agree, grapples sure make loading logs so much easier that forks. Forks can certainly do it, but grapples do it better.
Ya, I've had the 462 for a few years now. I could have easily not gotten the 500 and been perfectly happy with the 462. I got the 500 because it's been the hot ticket for guys for two or three years now, and I wanted to see if all of the hype was warranted. I DO like it a lot, but if I didn't have it, I'd have no problem working with the 462 every day either.
Looks great Jeff! Now get to work! HA
Very cool ❤❤❤❤
Great Work!
I don't know if it was "great" or not, but I think it turned out better than it was before I got there. Thanks for the compliment though!
From what I could see...for such a rough surface ....you got it tamed down👍
Thanks Mark.
I have zero experience with a box blade. Looked good to me! HA
Well, you've only got a little less experience with one than I do Tim!
This video is Zane approved
I'm glad, he's half of the reason I've been releasing videos more frequently lately LOL! Seriously!
Good video Jeff!
Thanks Genin, appreciate it!
So, do you do windows too? I've never heard of that stuff. Not much pine pitch to deal with in Iowa. Your video looked good brother!
LOL, well, I have to do the windows on the tractor at some point, but that's about the extent of my window washing! Thanks for watching Bud.
Looking forward to seeing what you end up doing Jeff. Now I know where you sit when we are solving the worlds problems...
LOL.
Nice garage and toys Jeff! I wouldn’t mess with that race floor thing, looks like it would hold small dirt and not clean well. I just prefer clean concrete, easy to sweep and wash a few times a year.
I agree completely Genin. Love the look of the Race Decking, but taking it out to sweep under it when necessary would just be a huge PITA, and I know me, I would tend to not want to disassemble it once it was in, so the floor under it would never get cleaned. I'm also not sure what's happening with the camera that I was using. It's a brand new Insta360, which are similar to GoPro's, and they're supposed to take really good quality videos, but as you can see, it kept losing focus/clarity in my video. Going to have to figure out what's up with that. It irks the heck out of me when watching it now LOL.
Nice trailer Jeff! 25+5?
Yes, exactly. I've had a lot of trailers, but these Diamond C's seem to be the best quality I've had yet. I like them a lot. Thanks for watching!
Very cool attachment, looked into those a few times but always just ended up renting a grinder.
I remember, we briefly discussed you getting a stump grinder. I guess it all depends on your situation. I've literally got hundreds of stumps on my property, and I'm making more as I cut trails through my woods. So, for me this was a more practical investment than renting one. I guess all of our situations are just different!
@@JeffGeorgalas yeah it definitely makes sense for you to have one with all those to grind!
Getting it done! How is your neck feeling today? I know before I got my camera, there was some stiffness the next day. Keep grinding brother!
No stiffness today, I'm good. A camera WOULD be good in that situation though. I may have to get one for that tractor too, because I've got A LOT of stumps to grind.
Looks like a blast!
Thanks Genin, it is! But it's a lot more fun when I can get my Ohio crew up here to ride with me. Maybe next season I'll be able to talk you into coming up for some riding too?
Good video Jeff, I always enjoy tour videos. Looks like you’ve got a great set up! Keep the videos coming 👍
The 'ol 500i ate that Jack Pine quickly. Looked like that tree had a serious twist up toward the top or what I seeing things?
No, you saw it correctly Tim. It had a nasty twist/lean to it. Thanks for stopping in and commenting Bud!

Jeff, I see what you mean by having a few stumps to deal with. That was a nice little tour of the property. When I was a kid, wild raspberries grew in the woods up behind our house. We would go pick them and Mom would make a raspberry syrup with them and we would put that on top of vanilla ice cream. Man, that stuff was good. You got some work ahead of you brother! Eat that elephant one bite at a time.
Absolutely, one bite at a time! Waiting for you to come up and help, and we can video some content as well!
Getting it done Jeff! I like your table!
Thanks Tim. I'm looking forward to seeing yours, if you end up deciding to make one too!
@@JeffGeorgalas there are plans in place. Hope to get it done before snow flies again
You’ve got quite the setup Jeff, I’m envious of your log piles! I like that cutting table too, might have to build one. The kioti is awesome! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Genin. I apologize, I just now saw this comment. Those log piles were far more expensive than I thought they should be. I don't like paying for wood, but I figured this would help me get a jump on stockpiling firewood vs. cutting the trees down from my property.
salut. splendid edition- 🤗
Thank you Sir.
Getting really good with that drone, Jeff...I hope you do get up there in another week or 2 ...the colors should be spectacular👍
Thanks Mark.
Good video and soundtrack, Jeff! Your cinematic skills are better than you give yourself credit for
Thanks Mark, but I think you give me more credit than is due because you're a friend! LOL.
I love it
Great job, Jeff👍
Thanks again Mark. As I stated earlier, it's all due to your tutoring!
Cool vid! Bears are terryfying though. I would have to be armed to travel/live there.
Yes, plenty of bears up here in general and on our property. Arming yourself is never a bad idea, but most times when they hear you coming they disappear.
How’s life?,Ejoyed,perfect .see ya!. 👍
Nice video, Jeff👍
Thanks Mark.
Nice flight Jeff👍
Thanks Mark. I've obviously got a long way to go though. I'm primarily using the drone's autonomous settings right now vs. actually flying with the sticks. I'll get it down with practice though.
