Michael has inspired so many guitarists to rediscover their instruments. He certainly inspired me to pick mine up after many years of gathering dust. The execution is far from perfect but Michael made playing my guitar fun again...thank you, Michael!

I filled in for Rob Blair for a couple of days and found out first-hand what's its like to get up in the middle of the night. All I can say is that I'm in awe of what Rob does on a daily basis. It took me a couple of days to get back to normal!

Brian Peterson as KHSL's 4th String Weather Guy
Переглядів 34513 років тому
It's been a humbling experience getting reacquainted with what it feels like to be on the other side of the camera doing the weather at KHSL-TV. As primarily a video producer for these past 22 years, I've taken for granted the pressure I often put people under when they are in front of my camera's lens. It was easy for me to forget...it ain't that easy! I'm very grateful for the training, suppo...

Brian Peterson Anchor and Weather at KHSL-TV 1989

After 22 years and a few hair cuts, I'll be returning to KHSL-TV (and now KNVN) to anchor the weather portion of the newscast on a fill-in basis when Kris, Rob or Cort can't rearrange their schedules to cover for vacations and illnesses. I've been training with Kris and meeting the crew, several of whom I had to avoid the urge to blurt out that hackneyed quip, "you weren't even born the last ti...

    Much better than I’ve heard, you sound more pure than the other ones hacking flamenco on youtube. People aren’t tributing the gypsies and their families for preserving. I most definitely hold Moríato Chico in most highest regard. I’ll not mention names but others show some off commercial flash that’s not being authentic. Thank you for posting.

    I took a blade sharpening class from Brian, what ? - 40 years ago. It totally changed what I understood as a sharp edge. But more importantly, for me, was my personal relationship with a person who not only knew what he was talking about but, with humor , would step back, if things didn't work out exactly as predicted ... think, and adapt.. Swedenborg talks of "love of uses." Check it out! That's Brian. I feel fortunate to have known and worked with him.

      Hello Rex, "Afford" depends on what is most important to you. In 1963 I borrowed $600 from a friend to buy an Arcangel Fernandez---that was 50% more than a good Spanish guitar was selling for at the time. My income at the time was around $150 a month. Cheers, Brian

    • @brianburns222

      Hello Kimmo, The flamenco guitar doesn't lend itself to factory production. It needs to be lightly constructed, and that makes it more fragile, and subject to warranty work. It can be made too thin, and that is why the individual maker does the best job. Cheers, Brian

      Hello Parallel Reflection, I like them both myself, but oddly enough classical players find my redwood soundboard instruments too bright. They seem to prefer a mellower tone. In the end, what the player says is all that matters, and player's taste varies dramatically! Cheers, Brian

    I spent 10 days with Brian 15 years ago and learned a lot from him. Even though I was there to learn how to build classical guitars, probably the most useful thing I learned from him was how to sharpen plane irons and chisels. When you have sharp tools to work with, everything else goes easier. By the way, at Brian's recommendation, I bought a Veritas block plane before attending his workshop, and I'm glad I did. My Veritas is probably my favourite luthier tool.

      Hello Richard, Thanks for the kind words about my playing! My rule is to keep it basic. I like to say that flamenco guitarists think that they are being paid by the note (;->)...Flamenco is after all a folk music. I've hardly played at all for the last several years, so my "chops" have deteriorated a lot. I've been thoroughly occupied with building guitars. I have a flamenco in my current batch of six guitars---there is a market for classicals---and if it doesn't sell, I'll get back to playing more. If somebody wants to buy it , the bills need to be paid! Cheers, Brian

    I'm just beginning to look into guitar and I really want to play it, but I'm confused where to start to learn how to play flamenco. Once I heard it, because I'm actually arab and hispanic, i just cant resist the music, its both of my cultures summed up in one. Right now I dont even own a guitar. I also don't think im going to be able to get a teacher, but I'm not really looking to become that good or at least at first. But like what should I do? Should I start right in and buy a flamenco guitar, buy a flamenco method book etc? Im pretty good at violin bc I've been playing for like six years so i think that the chords and arpegios and whatnot would be easier to learn, but can someone reccommend me with what to start with?

      Hello Lizzz, Flamenco is really special, and being the complete music of a culture it covers a lot more than just the fast rhythmic stuff. I learned more from a couple of lessons with a teacher than I had learned in an entire year on my own. Email me at Brian@BrianBurnsGuitars.com and I'll see what I can do to get you started. Cheers, Brian

    • @brianburns222
      @brianburns222 4 роки тому

      I use a 15 degree tilt to the head on both my classical and flamenco guitars. That's what the old timers used, and I like the looks of it better than the modern shallower angle. The camera angle may make it look as though there is no tilt, but it's 15 degrees! Cheers, Brian
