My son took me bow hunting!
Last year I let my son take me hunting and it was the best choice I made all hunting season! I've often heard hunters say "its just a doe but" and it makes me cringe... this was the smallest dear I shot last year but by far the biggest trophy! It's all about the details of the hunt to me. On this hunt I let Colter pick the time of day to go out as well as the location and the deer to be sot. no this not his first hunt, in fact far from it. This was however the first time I let him take the lead and he did great for a four year old. At four he was just not quite strong enough to pull the necessary draw weight to affectively kill a deer so I took the shot for him, this year however that has all changed and he has been hunting with bow in hand! Stay tuned and subscribe to see his next adventure.

I will then demonstrate how I use this call. You will also need adhesive, cordage and a cutting tool. Don't forget to first boil the bones for a bit. this is a great father son project. What spine of arrows would you shoot out of a bow like that? Would 400 spine be too stiff if I got one of those bows with a 60 pound draw?

    • @mattswildpointofview5057
      @mattswildpointofview5057 3 дні тому

      It really depends on your arrow length and point weight and if your bow is center shot. 3Rivers archery sells arrow tuning kits with different spine arrows to see what your bow is liking. You might try full length 350 spine with 200gr up front and go from there.

    Garbage. Yes it's been proven reflex/deflex bows out perform d shaped bows. Thats WHY they were made. "I dont care to chrono this bow" .... ya, I bet you don't. Cause it would get crushed from modern trad bows and compounds would blow it out of the water. Notice your short steps to the target by the way. Youre shooting pinecone at like realistically 10 yards. You just come across as a small channel trying to get it's first sponsorship lmfao

    My father started tagging me along when I was 4. I got a stick to pretend to have a gun so he could teach me how and where to point it. At 12 I got a 20ga single shot and if deer were coming he’d give me a shell. We hunted with dogs and lots of other family members so like always, gun safety comes first. He did a great job and you did too dad.

    I personally prefer plains style Native American bows. I make gull wing bows usually sinew backed with snake skin or rawhide. Comanche, Lakota bows being personal favorites. I have tried the Hupa bow and personally didn't much care for it but it works if you are interested in it.

      For fun I fletched a heavy fiberglass fishing arrow. Estimated weight was about 1300 grains. Two things really stood out. The arrow flight speed was a lot slower, but the penetration into a new hay bail was 1/3 deeper than with my standard arrows. (26” cedar shafts and 160 grain bullet points)

    I have been hunting in Michigan my whole life, only recently have I tried bow hunting and I have realized it is FAR different from rifle hunting. No kill yet, and I stress yet, but I have had a few close calls, one where some doe had snuck up on me and caught me out and it was heart pounding being on the ground with what I can only guess were about 5 doe less than 10 feet away opening day at dawn. They couldn’t see me as I was ghillied, but they caught my scent and they tried spooking me out with some snorts and ground stomps. They gave up and walked away as they were certain I was there. Far more excitement I have ever had rifle hunting. I’m glad I found your channel as your words are very wise and God willing I can learn something from you. Thank you for your wisdom.

    Beautiful both bows, in deed!. Thanks for showing. I also like to make them with black locust wood. Last ones with a trapezoidal cross section to help with compression issues. Also hardened with dry heat all of them. I would like to ask you about the ventages of the deflex - reflex design in your experience. And also how does it feels/works the wide handle of a bend at the handle bow; I´ve never build one like this. Nice videos. And would be nice to see your construction ways. Thank you!
