Hi John, any updates on the 180? Thanks
Could you please send me photos of your work?
This work is a lot
My professor is using this video to help with the lecture. Thank you very much
John. Nice meeting you in Arlington today 5/10/24. Rick KBLI
That’s going to be great when the entire aircraft is complete.
The fuselage is bent to the left . Pull a string from the windshield to the tail .
Retired A&P here. Yes what you found would be logical after it going over on its back. The vertical stab would take all that force and maybe take it out of square. You do the job RIGHT! Great work
Great content … us Cessna junkies need more!!
Glad to have found your channel went and looked at your website wow your shop does amazing work!
Thanks.
Looks like an interesting shop to work in.
….a new dress on a classy old lady
John. I fly a 54 180 up in Bellingham. It’s been in Family for 53 years. Enjoy watching your channel!
Nice vid shame about the music
What plans for super cub wing.
A labor of love… I love flying Cessna airplanes. One day I will fly a 180! I learned in a Cherokee 180, but have always loved Skyhawks since transitioning.
The bubble don't lie
Smooth door closure. Nice Honda motorcycle
Great vid. I was going to put a new taller panel in that 185 I had you look at, but realized the v brace probably won’t fit if I do that because the glare shield is taller. Gues I will have to make another v brace! Thanks for the scantlings on the tubing etc.
Does this STC effect the weight and balance?
They scabbed the Arup S-4 cracked spar and flew it one last time to its new owners strip an museam
Are all 180 gear compatible with 170s? For that matter are all early 182 spring gear compatible with early 172 spring gear models? Great vid! And yes that 170 definitely looks badass!
You guys are wacky flying wood spars period
Check out the seat track wear gauge made and sold by CAMCO.
Hi john watching you makes me miss my dad.god bliss you .
Careful playing music in the background. UA-cam will shut your video down due to copyright infringement. Ask me how I know...
That's really cool. A buddy of mine did something similar to a 1950's 182. He had problems with trying to cool that bigger engine inside the small cowling. Also...he wished he had larger fuel tanks due to the increased fuel flow. Still....it really must perform like a monster!
Thanks, That was awhile ago, we had a good time back then, anytime you come to Bend look me up.
Just had a heat lamp on it, not to hot ...
Hey John... Thank you for the great content, I worked at Lake Union Air service as a ramper and remember meeting you a couple of times back then (correct me if I am wrong that you worked there as well). I miss GA and I find your videos about restoration and keeping these great old airplanes running fascinating. Thanks again.
You look like Rich Little
Where are you located? Do you do the tail compliance AD for other people?
How long did you post cure it for and at what temperature?
I did this windshield install a few months ago. I also installed the top metal piece first. I had to drill it our and then cleco it in to hold the top and the strip to fit it. There is no way to get the top of the windshield in with it riveted first.
Sure is a short splice.
Balsa takes them dings . ive built model s (condors types) and with a thick finish over asphalt all the scrapes and dings barely beat on it and easily smoothed over if its dinged plus it stops crush. I like your work perfect fab and not patchy
Only worry is anything else that can break cause its not gonna be there where you rwfabed it now!
Let me ask you your thoughts on modding a 172 or 150 type with sail type and span for a motorglider????? I luv homebuilts tho.
I remember a video by Sonex (some years back) that discusses the idea of extending the wings on a plane. In essence you have to extend the tail too. With longer wings (on a 172) you get more Yaw - to make up for the Yaw you need a longer plane/ tail section. I personally would stay away from those kinds of mods unless I had studied aerodynamics. Remember if the plane goes into an uncontrolled spin - you die.
For the love of god just let me fly it! ( heard in background )
I could watch you rebuild these things all day.
Yep..Balsa core. Like my old H-301 Glasflugel Libelle.
Thanks for the video mine coming next week
A Labor of Love! Excellent work, exceptional aircraft. Very Nice!
Flextape will fix that
Would you take a passenger? A passenger with no agenda but to just hang out? For a fee I'm sure but would you and could you take a passenger ?
sometimes I do, no charge for a memory you will never forget
@@Nimbus2Ifly let's soar. I'm a cook for u of Oregon currently laid off. I'll pay the tow fee or contribute to a charity of your choice. I'd love to go. You're correct, I'd never forget it.
respect!!!
Got a set for my bird. 👍
Love your 180
Its been too long for me. Thinking I need another ship. I'm near Crescent City and glad to see some good soaring in the region. RV living and retired, so relocating is easy. Minden / Truckee were my old stomping grounds.
Hi Nice wood work. I donot understand why the lower holes for the wing strut are so close to edge... In the middle of the spar the bending stress is theoretically zero, hence it would be a better spot to drill. (stronger for the same money) The splice is not made with the recorcinol-formaldehyde adhesive, but with something else. Polyurethane adhesives and epoxy based adhesives have good long term properties too. But where is the evidence? Aerodux (= resorcinol) claims to have 24 hrs joint endurance in boiling water...quite a test!
Not sure but that is the way they were built in 1941
@@Nimbus2Ifly OK, 1941 you said. In 1941 the DH-98 Mosquito was just off the drawing table, a marvel of wood engineering. And the German Me 163 rocket-fighter with its wooden wing(!) flew 1004 km/h. (in secrecy, but it did.) Propeller blades of the FW 190 were of laminated beech wood... So: wood is not a 'bad' aviation material. Groeten uit N.L.
