Hey! I just graduated from my BArch program and I really wanna become an environment artist. I mainly use Unreal Engine but have no experience with Maya/Blender, where should i start?😅

They need to switch to Unreal Engine 5 and Meta Human. The frostbite engine is just not it anymore.

The Frostbite Engine is so bundled with problems and issues that makes developing any game that's not Battlefield painfully complex and difficult.

You could argue the actual engine is Maya and the “Naughty Dog engine” is simply the renderer. Almost everything is done in maya including environment building and lighting.

unity is superior to unreal, especially when you consider its performance, ease of use and community. You get things done much faster - and time and mobility in my field is very important. Unity runs pretty good on a gaming notebook.

GDevelop is perfect for beginners with it's event systems.

For 2D games, If scripting (at a simple level for all) does not scare you, and you or your team got some C or C++ bases, there is also ORX, a Free 100% Open-source Engine, relatively little known, and yet the most optimized and powerful in its kind. We have been using it during gamejams or for our indie games for several years, and we warmly recommend it (just take a look at it to see if it can meet your expectations or match your needs).

Nice list and video. Too bad ORX engine, the best 2.5d open source engine, is not even mentioned in the list. Fully data driven and super optimized, it's only default is not to be known enough. Really to check if you're serious about making 2d indie game on the long run.

Man Sony really struck gold with naughty dog. I got a PlayStation recently to try out some of their games and I love alot of the games on it, but when ever I played a naughty dog game I’ve just been amazed by the graphics, details, voice acting ect ect.

1:50 Yeah, but it's not like they've ripped out the core of the engine and rebuilt it. It'd be a new engine then. It's still hobbling along on it's core, base code with TONS of shit slapped onto it. It's totally time to move on. It's irrelevant if modders are used to it, or Bethesda knows how to make games quickly with it ( I guess, so they say ) but it simply cannot do what they clearly want it to do. I sure hope so at least, if Starfield is actually what they wanted to do.... then I fear for Elder Scrolls 6.
