SANTA MONICA + VENICE BEACH - LA Tourist Review
Santa Monica Pier and Venice Boardwalk truly came alive on Labor Day 2024, capturing the vibrant essence of Southern California's coastal culture. The Santa Monica Pier was a bustling hub of activity, with its historic Merry Go-Round (carousel) and iconic Ferris wheel spinning against the backdrop of a brilliant blue sky. The air was filled with the sounds of laughter, live music, and the crashing waves, creating an atmosphere that felt both festive and relaxing. Families, couples, and solo adventurers wandered the pier, exploring the various attractions, indulging in delicious treats, and soaking up the sun.
Just a leisurely walk from the base of the Santa Monica Pier, we made our way to the heart of Venice Beach, experiencing the transition from one iconic spot to another on foot. The energy at Venice Boardwalk was electric, with crowds of locals and tourists alike enjoying the eclectic mix of street performers, artists, and vendors. The colorful murals, funky shops all contributed to the unique and vibrant vibe that Venice is known for. The lively atmosphere made every moment feel like a celebration of creativity and individuality.
Seeing so many people out and about, enjoying the Labor Day holiday added to the excitement and made these iconic spots even more memorable.

This historic cemetery dates back to the mid-19th century when Kernville was a bustling mining town during the Gold Rush era. I'm not sure how I came across your channel but I like the idea you cover many places I can get to in a few hours. I am in Riverside, Ca. Have you been to Weed Patch? Known from "The Grapes of Wrath". It is near Bakersfield. It is the last camp the Joad family stay in at the end of the book. Now rhe book has the correct name of "Weed Patch" but the movie has it as "Wheat Patch". Google Maps has it aa Weed Patch
Thanks for the compliment and support of our channel. I'm glad the locations, or most of them, are close to Riverside where you live. I was not aware of Weedpatch Camp close to Bakersfield. I had a look on Google maps and found the small community of homes that were built for the desperate people heading west for a new life in California. I'll have to read up about it and learn more details to determine if we would record a video of Weedpatch Camp. I saw the movie 'The Grapes of Wrath' based on John Steinbeck's amazing story and felt much compassion for those mid-westerners.
The Pier looks great. Good to see people enjoying it. But 3rd street promanade is in serious decline.
The 3rd Street Promenade is not what it was when they first renovated it some 25 years ago but is still drawing in crowds. Thanks for watching and supporting our channel!
WoW! That’s Incredibly Awesome! Cheers for more incredible and lovely globetrotting adventures!🥂🤩❤️✨
Thanks so much, Juan! We really appreciate your support of the channel. I'm working on a Santa Monica Pier and Venice boardwalk video that will be published later in the week.
Thanks for taking me with you guys, looks like a good time. Woah, just realized this was three years ago. I went recently and it was beautiful. Thanks again
Re enacted here decades ago.
This after watching a series of aviation takeoff and landings ... Here is the real deal! Airplanes are modeled on soaring bird wings for lift.
Absolutely yes. I am an amateur flight simulator fan and can see exactly how aviation, especially smaller propeller planes, use the same techniques as birds. Surprise, surprise...and then the humans figured it out. 🦅
That's beautiful! Wish your flight footage lasted longer
Yes, I wished it did last longer. As it is, as the Condor took off, I zoomed in and followed his path in post. It was an amazing moment for sure.
@@SWExplore Certainly is magnificent to see on video, I know in person has to be incredible. I love the exclamations at the end, I did the same thing! 😊
I would love to give you a tour around up there. Next time head up a little further up the canyon and camp along the upper kern. There are great restaurants in the town of kernville. I don’t often eat in restaurants when camping up there tho. But a burger from Mcnalleys would have been a treat if you’ve never had one. The upper kern is worth a second trip I promise.
Thank you Shannon for your recommendation to camp further up the canyon to the upper Kern area. We will do just that on our next trip up the Kern River. Much appreciated!
If you want to see a cool cemetery in that area head down the 178 towards Onyx and visit the cemetery there. Right off the road and very easy to get to.
Wow! I just looked up Cottage Grove Cemetery (1862) and it definitely looks worthy of a visit. Thank you!
The person operating the car is the motorman, or operator. He is not referred to as the driver. You don't drive a railcar, you operate it.
Of course, you are right. Please forgive our oversight.
I wonder what the natives called them
I did a little research for you: The Chumash people, who lived in the coastal regions of Southern California, called the California Condor Mato. The Wiyot people of Northern California referred to the condor as Prey-go-neesh. The Yokuts, from the central California region, called it Wek'-wek.
I saw two circling in a suburban neighborhood in socal, it was wild to see just how big they are in person
Growing up in Glendale holds a treasure trove of cherished memories for me. Every corner, from the bustling streets to the peaceful parks, holds a special place in my heart. The local community and the vibrant atmosphere made it an unforgettable part of my childhood.
I'm glad to learn that this short video brought back fond memories for you of Glendale, California. Thanks for watching and supporting our channel.
Yes.....Covid did shut most of our town down. Only thing open now is The Joint, A sweet Shop, and The Vault a restaurant/ Bar. That's about it!!!❤
That is so sad to hear how Randsburg has, more or less, shut down. Are there still people living in Randsburg? I haven't been there since 2021 and the place was pretty quiet.
Just found out she is my great grandmother have her pictures hidden in photo albums
That is amazing, Tara. So that would mean you have Canadian roots? Aimee was an amazing person to have motivated so many people, but she was not a messenger from God as was believed in her lifetime. If she was a messenger, then we are all messengers.
@@SWExplore yes lots of people been looking me up imagine money of some sort is involved we will see but I have lots of pictures
What an amazing phenomenon Aimee was in Los Angeles. I have visited the Angelus Temple and actually got to go inside to see the auditorium where she preached. It was empty at the time. I experienced a feeling of awe inside the venue. She gave hope to so many people who were seeking a connection with the God of their own understanding.
@@SWExplore yes from what Im reasearching she did with lots of papparazi. I imagine my grandmas birth was hidden due to some court stuff but who knows with all that story yet havent got that far. Nor do I care just want pictures for my children to know the truth the rest of it is what happend 80 yrs ago. I can see how her image was really important that must of been horrible to live under that pressure. But no one can take that she gave birth to my grandma or the many lives she saved and healed that is gods gift
Omg great choice of places to visit....love Pasadena❣️ beautiful architecture! Great choices of background music!!! Keep up the wonderful videos♥️
Thank so much, Raymond. You are truly so kind. We just recorded the video on June 20, 2024. It was a really hot day for sure.
My absolute fav place in Pasadena. Well, I LOVE Pasadena as a whole really. You got some beautiful shots here guys!
Thanks Alejandra! So kind of you...and thanks for always being supportive. 😀
Father Serra. Sierra is related to Madre, not padre, as in Sierra Madre Mountains, meaning Mother Mountain. Good video otherwise.
Sorry for the oversight regarding Father Serra, and thank you for watching and supporting our channel.
@@SWExplore "Serra" is related to "sierra" .... "serra" is Latin for "saw" (serra: serrated, etc.), which, again, is exactly what sierra means..... I find the history of the names of geographical features and places in beautiful California to be utterly fascinating. And again, really enjoyed your video, we absolutely love Ventura and the beautiful Mission. Strange for an agnostic, no? Hope you do one on the Santa Barbara Mission at some point. I'm subscribing in that hope.
@@setaymada5023 We tried recording at the Santa Barbara Mission at the start of the covid pandemic, and it was closed. I think it is time for us to go back and record a video at Santa Barbara Mission again.

@@SWExplore Hey guys, the pleasure is mine. I ranch pixels in Ottawa, Canada. 😄 🇨🇦
How cool is that...a fellow Canadian! I've been living in Los Angeles since 1985. I have been to Ottawa several times in the past. Born in Montreal, lived in Toronto for 10 years and been in LA ever since.
What a feast for the eyes! Thanks for posting this, guys. Cheers.
Our pleasure, Pixelrancher! Thanks for watching and for your kind words.
Thank you for posting this video. I was a big fan of both Debbie and Carrie, and I attended the public memorial service for them at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills shortly after they passed away. It was a very moving service attended by hundreds of their fans with many celebrities in attendance. I also took a flower arrangement and left it there a couple of years ago on Carrie's birthday. I have moved away from the Los Angeles area, and this video is a nice reminder of Forest Lawn and the special people who are buried there. Thanks.
Wow! I love Hollywood Graveyard! I had really wanted to attend this event, but unfortunately there were circumstances that prevented me from going. I also love the Old Towne Music Hall. Thank you so much for posting this!!! ( Hopefully they will have another event in the future, so that I can finally meet Arthur Dark in person! )
Nice to see you guys! I absolutely LOVE Descanso Gardens, been there countless times. My favorite is the Japanese Garden, but I am biased, I love koi! Looking good right now. Beautiful video, thanks for sharing
Glad building survived. It’s hard to imagine the airfield given the surroundings buildings today.
I was just there today, June 18th, 2024. I was kind of hoping that they might have an air museum complete with perhaps a DC-3 or earlier model of propeller planes, but alas, only an area of approximately 20 feet by 25 feet were devoted to memorabilia. The building has been beautifully restored inside and out. Thanks for watching and commenting, William.
I'm from that area. I worried about Randsberg as it approached 100 yrs old because it was such a ghetto place, full of degenerate types. I'm happy it's fallen into better hands. It's a really great place.
Missed you guys!!! Love Descanso Gardens….haven’t been there in years!! ❤
Thank you, Raymond! It had been a while since we had recorded a new video. Descanso Gardens are still as beautiful as ever!
Wow!! Such a great video thank you for sharing such a beautiful place to visit.👩🌾🦋
Thank you, Gina!! William is such a terrific presenter. ❤
Great video as always! What camera/equipment did you use for the opening shot of you driving?
Thank you, Javier! We have only ever used a GoPro Hero 9 for all of our recordings. We do use Rode Wireless II microphones with connect with the GoPro as we record. Glad you liked our visit to Descanso Gardens. And yes, we do have to meet sometime soon for a steak lunch at that place you had share with us all!
Everything he's saying in here about her kidnapping is something he's heard multiple hands later, not just second or third hand info, but it is actually newspaper and gang-related rumors that they produced back then to discredit her. My grandmother was a graduate of the LIFE (Lighthouse of International Foursquare Evangelism) Bible college, and worked with Sister Aimee, my mother was baptized by her, and I grew up in that environment. I got first hand accounts from them about what happened. She was kidnapped, by her enemies, because she had made many by standing in her values and her principles. She was not at the beach "with friends" when she got kidnapped, she was with her constant companion, a woman who was there to help Aimee. I guess you would call her more like a personal assistant today. So I'm sorry that the lie is being permeated and propogated still! When by the grace of God, she did escape and their plan failed, her enemies went at making this whole rumor to discredit her. This man here is even said how the City officials, many of which who were corrupt and had mob connections, had already begun turning against her. While he only gave one reason according to something he read about tge kidnapping, the truth of the matter is Aimee Semple was doing harm and taking away from the coffers of organized crime in the region, and she never hesitated to call them out publicly, as sinners who were no good for the community. Aimee Semple-McPherson was a soul winner, and she got many people saved and delivered, so they stopped drinking bootleg booze, gambling, going to clubs, buying drugs (yes, Virginia, drugs for prolific back then, too! 🙄)and the multitude of their other sins!! Like I said, the gangs, the booze-bootleggers, the speak-easy club owners, and cartels all of the organized crime down there hated her because she was stealing from their coffers by getting people saved and they were turning their lives around! That was costing the mob plenty. It's too bad that this lie continues to get propagated, and taints her beautiful life and the heritage that she gave us. She was the first person to ever have to have an inter-denominational, inter-racial church, non-discrimnatory on gender or race church! She she set aside the trappings of religion that Jesus himself warned about in the forms of traditions and ceremonies, and utilized what Paul would have called "becoming all things to all people that one might be saved". She utilized every resource and form of media that she could to reach the lost! She did dramatic presentations in the Temple building, she used the radio, and she was setting up to do television, when she died (circumstances of which were questionable, but they refuse to do any investigating, same as with the kidnapping). The very "Temple" that God gave her the design for, her engineers and architect said it first that it couldn't be done. Aimee had to show them how it could be done, and when they began to see that it was possible they were stunned that she had known this! She was a true, active vessel of a living God, and allowed Him to manifest in her life in remarkable ways to touch many lives. During the depression, her ministry out gave the Los Angeles welfare department. This coming in spite of the advisement of her board, because God had told her to continue to give, and they still managed to make it through the depression intact! You've taken something and ran too far with it, there's absolutely no point for you to propagate the lie. Be careful!! Aimee has passed on over to her glorious reward in heaven, but the Living God is still here, and still loves her, as all His childen. Be very careful who you slander before Him. Just sayin'! 🤷🏼♀️🙄
Have a look at Aimee Semple-McPherson's grave site at Forest Lawn Cemetery Glendale. ua-cam.com/video/krfsrhc2aCs/v-deo.html

Glendale is an incorporated city within the county of Los Angeles. No, it is not a high crime city. It is an extremely safe city to live in and visit. It is expensive though.
