Kitfox Buil.....Life Update??
Переглядів 5404 роки тому
What's up everyone! I know that I’ve been gone a while, but that's because these past months have been spent searching, looking at, and eventually purchasing a house in the Knoxville Tennessee area and that has taken up much of my time. But now that I’m settled in, I’m ready to get back to working on the plane! This video isn’t going to be much of an airplane update and more of a life update th...

Kitfox Build: Warp issues and Channel Update

What's up everyone! Things have still been a bit slow with the build, but just wanted to give all of you a quick update on things and some changes I’ll be making to the channel. So up until now, I’ve been editing my videos on my Macbook but it's 5 years old now and not the best for editing 4k video. So, I went ahead and built a computer for video editing. Love my Macbook but organizing and edit...
I'm building a Kitfox!
Переглядів 1,7 тис.5 років тому
I'm building a Kitfox STi and a number of you have been asking me to start a UA-cam channel with videos of me building it. Before I start those, I just wanted to make a quick video introducing myself and what I have planned for the channel. If you're interested in following along with me building my plane, be sure to subscribe!
Why not just consider the syringes as consumables - 1 time use. then pitch um.?
Great videos! I just started my kitfox build, and your tips are great. Im in Gallatin, TN, we will have to go flying once we get them finished! Where are you located?
T 9 is great stuff!!!! Good job on attention to detail. Subscribed and notified!
what happened to the updates?
More build videos please! Just found your channel and it’s so awesome! Come back!
Hey Kevin, just a quick question. Regarding touching up bare or thin areas with sandblasting and primer, did you find many areas that needed this? I think I may have 2 places at most that will need it. Just wanted to see if you had many areas that needed attention. Thanks again, Brandt
Hi Brandt! I just had 3 areas the needed touching up on mine.
@@SpectreFox OK then it sounds like I’m in line with those issues. Thanks again.
Hello Kevin, hope you are doing well. I am starting my Kitfox build and I had a question. How did you interpret how they want the ribs attached to the horizontal stab? Do we remove the powder coat down to the metal or are we just scuffing up the powder coat and hysoling to the powder coat. Thanks for your help.
Congrats on starting your kit! I just lightly scuffed it up with Scotch-Bright 07447 and cleaned the area. Good luck on your build and feel free to reach out with any more questions!
Thanks Kevin, that is what I had in mind but wanted to make sure. Looking forward to your next video but I know your busy. Take care and talk to you soon.
SpectreFox - Thanks for posting the video. I’m reading about this stuff in the KitFox manual and it was nice to see it in action. I hope the build is going well, perhaps I’ll see you on the forum.
Sure thing! Glad you found the video useful! Don't post much on the forum. Just posted on question on there a while back. I need to post more on there though.
Dude, hope you are ok.... I am really enjoying your videos. My plane is arriving at the end of this month. I hope you are still building and/or doing the videos. Take care
All is well! Glad you're enjoying the videos. Starting a new job and taking classes has caused me to slack on the build a bit, but enough excuses, have been taking video of what I've been able to do here and there and will be back to uploading videos soon. Really appreciate the comment and congrats on your plane being delivered soon! Feel free to reach out with any questions.
Sounds good, I completely understand. Work must come first, otherwise we can not make all of this happen. I’ll be looking forward to your next video.
I will be getting my kit in about 2 weeks. Congratulations on the new job hope everything goes well! Look forward to any shared experiences
@@TheJasonmurphy2005 Thanks man! Congrats on your getting your kit soon! Let me know how it goes and feel free to reach out!
Well done, can’t wait for the next update. So glad I stumbled on your channel.
Appreciate it! Glad you're enjoying the videos. Will be back to posting soon.
@@SpectreFox Any updates?
Just got my SS7 two weeks ago, planning on doing similar update videos. Thank for all the tips! Keep it up
Congrats on the arrival of your kit! 🙌 Feel free to reach out with any questions!
Glad to see you back at it!
Thanks Harlan! Looking forward to more videos from you!
You’ve probably thought of this but will it fit out the garage door with the stab on? Hate to figure this out later when it’s covered. Or maybe the stabilizer is removable. Enjoying the build!
It's close, but it won't fit unfortunately, so another thing I plan on doing to the house is changing to a large single garage door instead of the two small ones.
How many kg is a skeleton?
I think you're asking how much does the frame weigh? If so, that's a good question, but I'm not sure. It's definitely lighter than it looks! If I figure out an actual weight, I'll post back and let you know!
@@SpectreFox Yes I wonder the weight and the thickness of the pipe width.
@@SpectreFox I am making kitfox, you can watch kitfox ramze chilindrishvili on UA-cam, I wonder if it came out hard.
I'll check it out and follow along!
Looking great! I like the video process of the slide for the stabilizer , Nice to see it in detail ! you are the second build i have seen about the bushings , I will put them in first. Love the Murdered out look! My Badland / Kitfox light is going to be all black too! Im going to use Oratex 600 for a covering, What are you using for covering the fuselage? Doug
Thanks Doug! The current plan is to use the standard Polyfiber, but the more I see about how quick and easy Oratex is, the more I want to use it, haha. Have you started on your Badland kit? They look pretty sweet and I was actually looking at getting one!
@@SpectreFox i'm 5th in line , maybe 4th now, I'm getting the F1 kit so basic fuselage and wings, but with toe brakes, I think it will be ready in the spring, I'm going with the Polini THOR 250 with Duel Spark 150cm ground adjustable E-Prop
@@aerialimagesbydoug5733 Nice! What's the lead time on one?
The way you do the washers is using the tape trick. Take some masking tape and put some on part corner of the washer. It makes it so you can hold the washer where you need to for the bolt to get in place. Then just pull off the tape after the bolt is secured. You will definitely need this later. Also the elevator goes on easier if you slide it in first before the stabilizer.
Ah, good idea! I was using a little dab of glue, but that wasn't working too well. Will give the tape a try. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks Matt!! Glad to get the ball rolling again!
Congrats on the new house and the MUCH better commute. Very jealous about that. Anxious for you to get back to the Kitfox. Making slow but steady progress on mine (see previous comment on commute). enjoy the new house.
Thanks T Man! This commute is hard to beat for sure. The Kitfox videos will be back very soon! Glad to hear progress is being made! Feel free to reach out if with any questions.
I’m glad to see you settling in. Hope you get back into building your Kitfox soon. I like your tires laying in your spare bedroom.
Thanks Juergen! They take up too much space in the garage 😄
Nice to see you are back. Can’t wait to see what you’ve been up to. That sure is a different view!
Thanks Mark! It sure is! Love it here!
Congrats to the new house. looks pretty dope already. What line of work are you in?
Thanks Jan! Cyber Security
SpectreFox dude that house is all I would need. Keep it simple 😎 and keep building 🤣
@@SpectreFox Thant's cool, perfect job to work from home.
For sure!
Good point Aviator267 😂
Sounds fun. I’ll watch. Sub
Thank for the sub! More to come!
I'm Dreaming about flying and making a kitfox but still just a broke college student. So I basically live my dream through watching your videos
Once you get around to it, Project Kitfox has a number of detailed videos on laying the fabric and sewing them on his channel. Could be a good reference for some tips and tricks when it comes time for you.
Thanks for the tip Dan! I'll check out his videos. I was hoping to take the class from the EAA, but they've all been cancelled until further notice. Glad there's good reference videos for me to go off of.
What is the complexity of building a kitfox and how much did the kit cost.
It can seem complex when you look at the project as a whole, but if you just focus on it by section, it's not bad. There will be things that you run in to that you'll have to research, but there's a great community out there of people who have already gone through the process and are willing to help out. The forums at TeamKitfox.com are a great resource. As far as pricing, I'm building the STi and have just purchased the firewall back ($35,995.00) and some additional options (video on that coming soon). Still have to purchase the firewall forward, engine, avionics, etc... When it's all done, I'm thinking I will be around $90k - $100k, but I'm getting the nice avionics, autopilot, etc.. It all depends on the options you select. If you want to go with an inexpensive build, you can build one for around $45,000.
I love the Kitfox and thinking of ordering the kit in 6-12 months. Love the channel and seeing what's ahead for me as a new prospective builder. Keep up the good work. Subbed!
Awesome! Nothing has been hard, just time and elbow grease. Awesome community of people that are happy to help with anything you run in to (feel free to reach out to me anytime as well). Glad you're enjoying the videos and thanks for the sub!!
All of these Kitfox build videos are giving me the urge to jump on the bandwagon. Will likely wait another 18 months or so to see how everyones STI’s turn out. Interested to see how you manage the fabric!
Go for it! I was planning on taking a fabric covering course, but they've all been canceled until further notice... Probably have to just try it out and hope for the best 😬 haha.
@@SpectreFox There are a lot of good tutorials on here. It just think it seems intimidating because even as a general aviation mechanic, working with fabric is a rarity.
Will definitely be new to me... but it all is haha. You'll probably get your build done in no time since you're a mechanic!
I am looking at buying a partially built kit, and finishing it.
Nice! How far along is the kit?
just use ziplock freezer bags cut a small hole in the end of it after you rolled or squeezed it together
Definitely save time and money doing that
Thanks for the info great vids keep em comming
Thanks! Will do!
Nice one I want to build one. Is there a long wait currently for kit delivery?
Good choice! They are really great planes and you will enjoy building it! It was about 9 months for mine, but I believe it's gotten longer since then. Kitfox should be able to tell you if you reach out to them.
I think I used the syringe once and had similar results. What works really well is just applying with popsicle sticks and going over the bonds with paper towel soaked with rubbing alcohol. Not sure if you're there yet, but you will also reach some steps where you will expose your clecos to hysol. I find submerging them in alcohol and cycling them a few times and then letting them sit overnight in the alcohol keeps them from seizing.
Thanks for the tips! Especially the one regarding the clecos. I've not reached that part yet
Love your channel. I’m looking at building my own design, probably jet powered. Thanks for the motivation. Keep the videos coming
Thanks! Jet powered would be awesome and would love to see it!
SpectreFox thanks. Look forward to seeing more of your content please
Great videos. Please keep them coming. Pick up my SS7 kit this week and will be starting soon.
Thanks and will do! Congrats!! Feel free to reach out with any questions!
@@SpectreFox Hey brother. have heard anything from you in a while and wasn't sure how to get in touch with you. How goes the build? I have started mine. Just the horizontal stab. and elevator, but at least I'm started. Are you on the team site? Hope all is well.
@@tman3587 Thanks for reaching out brother! Sorry I've been MIA for a while. Was in the process of searching/buying a house and moving in so that's been taking up much of my time. I'm all settled in now though and getting back to it! Will have more on my next "monthly" update video.Glad to see you've started on yours! I'm on the team site, but not been very active on there. I just went on there to ask a question about the bushings. Feel free to reach out anytime! I'm usually pretty responsive to UA-cam comments, but just been busy.
Nice progress on your Kitfox. Does the Kitfox have an adjustable horizontal stabilizer for trim?
Yes kitfox does.
Thanks Juergen! Yes, it does as Harlan mentioned.
It's electricily driven as well, which is a bit different from the cubs I fly
Nice video. I reamed the bearings or bushings with the 3/16 reamer to fit the elevator bolts to the horizontal stabilizer. I assumed they were not suppose to fit like all the rest of the parts. lol
I tried reaming one... Did not go well.. lol.. I was unable to fit the reamer to pull through though
Your videos are helpful, you and 7KF are ahead of me and its good to see what you guys are doing. The belt sander is nice, but be careful, it's easy to over do it...
Glad you're finding the videos helpful! Feel free to reach out with any questions
Howard. Are you building a SS7 as well? I've just started my build. Are you on the team site. Those of us building at the same time should work together. Safety in numbers.
T Man I am building a ss7. Be glad to share any insights...
@@howardlentz6047 How far along are you? I'm really just starting. I'm starting with the tail to get me feet wet. The previous builder did some of the fuselage but I'm not happy with the control column, so I'm going take it apart next.
Nice job, love the tips, your video’s are great in both content and quality, thanks. My SS7 kit will be ready for delivery in November.
Thank you Steve! Hope the videos help when your kit arrives! Feel free to reach out with any questions.
Not sure what happened to the video quality of the intro there...
I’m building a model IV
Nice! How far along are you?
@@SpectreFox I took all the covering off (was started by some one else) and am correcting the errors according to the manual and painting the fuse tubes. I also put on the nose wheel plate and support tubes.

Excellent job. Im hoping next year i can place an order for the speedster. Keep the videos coming. I am just learning along and taking all the good feedbacks.
