Awesome review! I had this exact model as a kid but it only lasted about 6 months. The hub motor has plastic planetary gears, and the bearings ceased up. The brakes were also pretty weak and required a substantial amount of grip to operate that most kids won't be able to provide. However, it was pretty lightweight and affordable, so maybe it was worth rebuilding every 6 months. In my opinion, chain or direct drive is worth the extra money.

(1:01) I sense that those two sockets happen to be on the same electrical circuit, hence the faster speeds compared to other rooms in the same house. This video really shows why I prefer to keep powerline adaptors on the same electrical circuit. I know they would be on the same circuit because I would switch off each circuit breaker and make notes of which sockets, fixtures, etc, in which rooms lose power. I have network cabling in surface trunking throughout the flat I live in, but they don't reach to all rooms and I can't yet afford to get new cables installed with new trunking, so I'm looking into getting a pair of powerline adaptors that would be connected from one of the network points on a wall to a socket then another adaptor would be connected to a socket on the SAME electrical circuit and connected to the device I want to use it with. Edit: I live in an older flat in Singapore. Unlike newer flats, older ones had solid walls which didn't allow wiring and plumbing to be run inside the walls, hence the trunking and piping on the walls.

I think the diode cost maybe $8 back then, but it was an easy repair. Glad I came across this video so I can do the repair again, if necessary. I didn't book mark the old video.

Mine was claiming a low salt level ( 1700 ). Outside testing said I was at around 3400. I tried recalibrating several times and it always went back to 1700. When I pulled it apart the thermistor looked fine. I used a multimeter to test it. Thermistor read 1.7 ohms. When I put an ice cube on one side the reading dropped to zero, putting the ice cube on the other side and it went up. It should not have gone up. So I ordered a new thermistor and tested that prior to installation. Ice on both sides dropped the ohms. I soldered the new one in, hooked everything back up, and it started reading about 3400 on the salt. Simple easy fix and far better than spending $400 on a new board.
