Hello! We are Alex and Jess. A husband and wife duo sharing our adventures.
We love camping. We love the outdoors. We enjoy documenting and sharing our travel adventures, to inspire more people to get outside and find an appreciation for nature. The more people that care for our natural, wild places, the more people we hope will want to help protect them. If we can convince even one person to use a "leave no trace" mindset then we will be very happy campers.
A quote that we have been hearing a lot these day is "time is our most valuable nonrenewable resource..." How we chose to spend our time and who we spend it with are some of the most important decisions we make. We are honoured that you choose to spend time with us.
Our channel will include not only our canoe trips, backpacking, backcountry camping, car camping, and fishing but also gear reviews and useful bushcraft skills.
We welcome you to join us!

Newfoundland to Ontario: The Journey Home After a Month on the Road - E.13
The final chapter of our month-long road trip adventure is here! After 32 unforgettable days on the road, travelling from Ontario to Newfoundland and back, we wrap up our journey with some incredible experiences and memorable moments.
We begin this leg in Newfoundland, drying out at a cozy Airbnb after a rainy 5-day backpacking trip along a section of the East Coast Trail. After a few days of rest and exploration-including a visit to the quirky town of Dildo and visiting with some dear friends-we drove 820 kilometres across Newfoundland to catch our midnight ferry. However, we weren't quite ready to leave the island so we hiked what was left of the Grand Bay West Trail before boarding the ferry back to Nova Scotia.
Once we docked in Nova Scotia we drove to New Brunswick, where we spent five relaxing days with friends on their homestead. While we didn’t film much, we made the most of our time catching up, trying coastal fishing, and soaking in the slower pace of life. From there, we headed to Québec for a couple of days of hiking in the beautiful La Maurice National Park, where the fall colors were just beginning to pop.
Adding a touch of mischief to our travels, a mouse decided to make our car its home for three days. Thankfully, we managed to evict our uninvited guest before reaching our final stop: a family cottage in Ontario. Here, we spent a few days reconnecting with loved ones, watching some of the most spectacular sunsets Ontario has to offer, and reflecting on the adventures of the past month.
This video marks the end of an incredible road trip filled with breathtaking landscapes, meaningful connections, and countless memories. Thank you for joining us on this journey!

Why did I think: Oh look! A shepherd and shepherdess, as soon as I saw this? 😂
lol it’s still raining here and it’s 8 months later
Don't seem real smart, going out there when the ice is thin
I loved this video. I drove down from Alberta to home (Newfoundland) twice last year and really amazed at the amount of beautiful camping spots along the way. Can’t wait to hook up the trailer and explore. Beautiful videos.
Awesome!
Hi guys..just randomly came upon your video and realized that I was the guy with the dog that moved to camp further along that night at miners point..funny! Glad you survived you trip.
Oh my goodness, no way. We are really glad you survived your adventure as well. Such a small world, what are the odds you came across our video?
Hmmmm no comment
Why not?!
Gunna need a running start lol
Hahaha We like your thinking. Like bobsledding!
Awesome little mashup, love it!
Much appreciated, was a great year! We hope yours was equally as good.
So true!!
I love that canoe lake shot
Thanks dude!
Awesome!
Thanks dude
Pissing Mare Falls its called. Seriously.
Watched your previous videos as research for our trip in June and enjoyed them all. Happy to say we did not get very much rain and even had to find a car wash to get the salt spray off the truck from ferry ride over . NL did not disappoint in scenery ,hiking , kayaking, amazingly friendly people who are immensely proud of their island . We did a trip report that is on trip advisors Newfoundland and Labrador forum for any who may be interested as we are not skilled enough to film and edit our travels . The only thing we would have changed is the ferry night crossing , did it both ways . Will never do it again as sleep eluded us even with a cabin . Luckily we had planned short drives after crossings to next accommodation. Thanks for taking all the extra steps and time to bring us with you . PS check your cabin and engine air filter in case your 4 legged intruder came with friends
Hey, so glad to hear you had a great trip! Also thanks for the tip about checking our filter. We did a whole once over of the car when we returned home, including removing the rear bench seat and found some signs of where our little mouse was hiding. Luckily there were no friends with him. We also feel the same way about the night ferry and booking a cabin. On the way to Newfoundland we didn't book a cabin and had no issue, but on the return we thought we would try a cabin, but don't feel it was worth the extra money. Where to next?!?
@@Tents.and.Timber Wouldn't mind going to Ireland again and try to stay in a lighthouse this time . Stayed in a medieval castle tower last trip and that was awesome . Looks like someone can buy it now , Ballintotis castle in county Cork .
lol, “we don’t need more STUFF!”
Agreed 👍
Said no woman ever
Gros Morne is a beautiful place to visit and great climbing.
Beautiful views of the mountains
We know, we were pretty blown away too.
It is better than many women and amazon shopping. Then they still cheat on you.
Freaking barter section on Craigslist, lord somebody send help 😂🤣
Hahaha admitting you have a problem is the first step. Goodluck mate.
@@Tents.and.Timber my hubby won't admit he's got a problem, that's the problem 😂🤣
wtf did I do?
Hahaha Oops 😬
The way a marriage should be
I own nine drum kits, all from marketplace
Your neighbors must love you
Damn you Scott!!!😂
Hahaha right!
Almost the same thing with me. But it's the gun store. She hears me talk about it. She knows what I'm going to do.
Haha, what's just one more right?
Meee!🤣😂🤣 it’s really Russian roulette, exactly how I got my car
Hahaha 😆
Women need to understand that men don't distrust each other by default
Great video guys, I hope you both keep up this good work; and this channel should take off. I watch all you put on it and share it, From Bay of Quinty to limiting out on Bass with a couple Pickeral on Erie with you to watching you online killing it and making entertaining videos... Keep er up bud. You're a good welder, but I think this is where you belong.. Cheers guys...
Awww thank you so much mate, I truly appreciate you taking the time to say that. Hope all is well with you.
😂
What an amazing journey. I've never been out that way, so thanks so much for sharing your journey with us. Sorry about the mouse though. Safe travels.
We think you would really enjoy a trip out this way, hopefully your able to fit it in one day. Luckily our little mouse friend didn't do too much damage, it chewed some napkins in our glove box and some of our groceries in the trunk. Somehow it was getting throughout the entire car. Lots more adventures to come and we are sure there will be lots more mice!
Excellent! Glad you had a great time here in Newfoundland. The rain situation didn't get better, we just had two weeks or rain with another week of rain forcasted, lol. Oh well. We lived in New Brunswick for almost 7 years when my husband was in the military. We loved it, so much to see and do. Spent a lot of time in nature while we were there.
Wow, that sounds incredible! It’s true-there are so many beautiful places out there, it’s almost impossible to pick just one to call home. We feel so lucky to have had the chance to explore even a small part of it. A little rain always adds to the adventure, right? Do you have a favorite spot you’d recommend for our next trip? We’re already dreaming about coming back to explore more!
@Tents.and.Timber I spent the last 17 years on the mainland. My husband just retired this past summer so we haven't been able to travel around alot yet. But I can recommend Malady Head, my parents have glowing reviews about it. Also we spent lots of time in living Labrador and that is always a blast to explore. Gros Morne is always great but you already know.that, lol. Further north we've enjoyed time around L'anse Aux Meadows.
How many times can you legit say dildo in a non porn video 🤣🤣🤣 Poopy about all the rain but that last night's sunset before the ferry was gorgeous. Any idea what all the ATVs on the ferry was all about? Awesome end to a magical trip!!!
Newfoundland has a great trail system (the old NL railway) so people cross over on atvs to travel across the province. You can get off in Port Aux Basques and take the trails to Argentia to grab another ferry back to NS, or vice versa. Some people come every year and have documented the trip on UA-cam.
@@buckets_on_bridges709 Very cool! Thanks for the info.
Hey Tim, great catch with all the ATVs on the ferry! 🚵♂️ We were amazed to learn how common it is for folks to gather for multi-day trail rides, even hopping on a ferry to extend the adventure-what a cool way to explore! As for the Dildo count, we were definitely wondering the same thing. Fingers crossed we stay out of UA-cam jail! 😂 Have you ever done a trip like that, or is it something you’d try? It looked like such a blast!
This is one thing we are quite jealous of living in Ontario. All too many of our old rail lines have been purchased and made private property. Travelling by ATV certainly looks like a fun way to adventure, is this something you have tried?
@@Tents.and.Timber I've spent some long days riding dirt bike and snowmobile when I was quite a bit younger, but no ferries. I think you need to get up into at least cottage country to get at the sideroad bike trails now.
LMAO!!
Glad you enjoyed, we like showing the real stuff
One of my favorite trials. However if you choose to go right at the fork, it's much easier on the legs.
Thanks for the tip, we will remember that when we visit again!
Got it covered 😅
Great video. Glad you got to see the puffins. Bonavista is one of our favourite places in Newfoundland. Remember, it’s pronounced Newfoundland with the emphasis on the last syllable as in understand. A common mistake of mainlanders, .
Puffins and the Bonavista area was definitely special, we would love to go back and explore the area some more. If you have any suggestions of more places to go please let us know. Also, we wish we had known about the proper pronunciation of Newfoundland as we have had so many people reaching out to correct us. We know for next time right? Hahaha
@@Tents.and.TimberEven CBC announcers get it wrong sometimes. I haven’t seen all your videos but here on the west coast Bottle Cove is a must. We have a cabin there. Cape St Mary’s south of the Avalon is spectacular.
@@blomidon awesome thanks 😊
Yes I have
I enjoyed the video. Thank you for posting. What is the date (Month, year) of the video. Rain is mentioned; so, I'd like to know. Also, what about biting insects?
Hey, thanks for check our our video. We spent the first 3 weeks of August driving across the province of Newfoundland. We were told by many locals that we experienced an unusually high amount of rain, but they do experience some unique weather patterns. As far as bugs, it totally depended on location. Heavily forested areas had some biting insects. However, anytime we were near the coastline, which was most of the time, we didn't see many of any bugs. Hope that helps and we hope you have an excellent time. Feel free to reach out with any other questions
ALERT ALERT.. . .there's more to Newfoundland than Gros Morne and Sin Jawns. Typical. At least the missus pronounced Newfoundland correctly. I guess buddy must be American. 🤣🤣🤣
Definitely not American. Just from Ontario, and we look forward to checking out more of Newfoundland on our next visit. Thanks
SLAY!!
😁
I’m about 30 seconds in and I’m guessing you did the tablelands trail. Gros Morne is a mountain that’s been flipped on its side due to tectonic activity so as you walk across the plateau, you can see millions of years of layers that make up our planets crust. It’s literally one of a kind.
You nailed it! We luckily had the opportunity to hike both trails, Gros Morne and the Tablelands trails. Both stunningly beautiful.
ua-cam.com/users/shorts9cshMv_Eo7I
Newfoundland only got 3 weeks of 'Summer' a year. Glad you enjoyed it though!
Hahaha we had heard the rumor before starting our journey and we're prepared for it. Absolutely stunning place.
Great images.
Thanks mate
Welcome to the shower. I often tell people before they visit to not make the weather a priority for coming here. 😂 Just subscribed to your channel and binge watching while we’re camping. Love your adventures. ❤
Awww thank you so much! We have lots more adventures in the works. Where are you camping?!
Butterpot Provincial Park. It’s about 20 minutes outside of St. John’s. Most of the animals you’ll see on the Avalon Peninsula part of the island are mostly foxes, moose and rarely, but have been seen, bears. Black and Polar.
@41aragon oh nice, we weren't far from there when we hiked the East Coast Trail. We wished we had more time to visit. There are just way to many cool places to go.
Well, b’y, you gotta come back. There are way too many places on this island for Boondocking alone, let alone, magnificent parks. We decided not to leave the province the last couple of years because there’s way too much on our doorstep to explore. May through July are great times for iceberg hunting
@@Tents.and.Timber I have to say, this is probably the best UA-cam channel we’ve watched and we have binged watched a lot of different UA-cam channels in this genre.
Awesome!, hiked it many times and even worked on the trail years ago doing maintenance.
Oh neat! We are so inspired to have heard from so many people who have helped maintain Newfoundland's trails.
if the key fob battery is low the car still starts, pal. You push the start engine button WITH your key fob. Yes. Try it.
Thanks for the tip, we didn't want to take any risks being so far from home and oddly enough had a honda dealership along route.
You can't do anything about the weather but you still made the best of it and enjoyed the hike. Good for you!
We absolutely enjoyed ourselves. It's not truly a camping experience without some rain right?!?
Excellent video!
Thanks mate!
