Some BRIEF video footage of movie director Yasujiro Ozu from 1983 documentary I Lived, But... (dir. Kazuo Inoue). Actress Yoko Tsukasa (Late Autumn & The End of Summer) recounts the first time she met Ozu.
Yasujiro Ozu: Floating Weeds (1959) - Ending
The gorgeous ending to Yasujiro Ozu's Floating Weeds (1959). The down and out Komajuro Arashi meets his mistress Sumiko (played masterfully by Ganjiro Nakamura and Machiko Kyo respectively) in a train station. For me Kojun Saito stands alongside Nino Rota, Bernard Herrmann, Ennio Morricone and Zbigniew Preisner as one of the greatest composer to collaborate regularly with a director. When his f...

Yasujiro Ozu: Equinox Flower - An afternoon at Hakone
In this scene from Yasujiro Ozu's 1958 masterpiece, Equinox Flower, Mr and Mrs Hirayama (played by the magnificent Shin Suburi and Kinuyo Tanaka) take a break in the tranquil Hakone. Over the pretty but sad music of Kojun Saito (a regular collaborator of Ozu's) they discuss their current lot in life and reminisce about WWII. As with much of the work of Yasujiro Ozu (and screenwriter Kogo Noda) ...
Yasujiro Ozu: Record of a Tenement Gentleman - Photo Shoot Scene
A scene from Yasujiro Ozu's 1947 film Record of a Tenement Gentleman. This peculiar scene seems to put the viewer inside the camera at the moment the picture is taken. The resulting cuts present a very strange take on the recurring motif of empty spaces in the film. In this clip Choko Iida plays Ofune, Hohi Aoki plays Kohei and Hideko Mimura plays Okiku. The photographer is played by Taiji Tono...

I was introduced to Peeping Tom in a semester entitled The Horror Film at the University of Colorado-Denver, taught by Howie Movshovitz, then the film critic of the Denver Post. Howie did not screen it because, due to time constraints and the breadth of the subject, there wasn't time. But we took class time -- about 40 mintues -- to discuss Psycho, PT, and John McNaughton's Henry: Portrait of Serial Killer (all films he admired) since all dealt with a homicidal personality. He did not recommend one over the other but did warn more sensitive natures about them. I've seen all. For me, Henry was the most difficult to get through.

Shin Saburi, who played the husband in this scene, was 49 years old, as old as Tom Cruise when he did Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol... Is it that the former actor looked prematurely older, or the latter looks incredibly younger?

Michael Powell, and his cinematographer, Jack Cardiff, were brilliant when it came to the use of color, and "The Red Shoes" is their crowning achievement.

Concerned as it is with the behaviour of a murderous focus-puller, being one myself, though of the non-murderous kind, when I first saw Peeping Tom in the late 70s it has always intrigued me. That said, it is by no means one of my favourite Michael Powell movies.

I just got done watching this movie and this was amazing the cinematography acting and just straight up wired yet scary and sympathetic character in mark lewis the movie really explored the art of fear how fear is used for violence and his fetish for filming the deaths of his victims was quite interesting I loved this movie such a great film.
